Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed why he turned down the alleged offer by the Federal Government to have Biafra Republic that comprises only five core Igbo-speaking states in the South East. Kanu who made the revelation in a live broadcast monitored by newsmen in Abia said his passion to liberate all oppressed indigenous tribes in the old Eastern region made him to insist on not leaving them behind.

“When I was at Kuje prison the federal government offered to give me Biafra provided I leave other tribes outside the five South East states but I told them I must go with the other oppressed nationalities because I don’t want them to continue suffering subjugation”. He however, regretted the utterances of some persons from the minority tribes who he said had the wrong notion that the Igbo intend to dominate them in the new republic.

Kanu condemned an alleged uttrance by the Ikwere people in Rivers State that the five South East Igbo states should leave them out of the Biafra project. He warned them and non-igbo speaking tribes in the Niger Delta region against the danger of opting out of the Biafra Republic.
He said that the fate of any minority tribe that refused to be part of Biafra Republic would be worse than the Hausa’s who have since lost their identify and freedom to the Fulani. Kanu regretted that most of the minority tribes were yet to learn from the mistake of the Hausa.
He declared that contrary to misconceptions in some quarters the struggle for Biafra republic was not for the Igbo to subjugate or dominate the minority tribes but to free them from bondage. Kanu said that the way the Jews were hated for no just cause was the way “Ndigbo are being hated for no justifiable reason”. The IPOB leader claimed that Biafra lost the civil war because of global conspiracy allegedly championed by the British.

My real question is – why is Nnamdi Kanu fighting for the rights of other minority tribes and wants them included in Biafra by force. Nnamdi Kanu’s Biafra must include Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Efik and Ibibio. I guess his Biafra will exclude Edo State and other minority tribes in the North Central. Asari Dokubo and Ijaw leaders insult Nnamdi Kanu, but he never talks back – why does he want to go with the Niger Delta at all cost?

Why can’t he just take his 5 Igbo speaking states and go. We can add the Igbo speaking parts in Rivers and Delta to that. Why does he want the Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Efik and Ibibio at all cost? Is it true love or is it because of their Oil? Why does he not want Edo in his Biafra? Is it because Edo has no Oil? I am sure Nnamdi Kanu would not mind adding Lagos and Abuja to his Biafra if given the chance.

No Ijaw man or any other non-Igbo was in any leadership position. The non-Igbos were permanently oppressed and under suspicion as some of them were thought to be sympathetic to Nigeria. Places like Ikot-Ekpene were never protected – Nigeria troops took those places with ease. And anyone who could not speak Igbo at the time could be killed by Igbo vigilantes. There were numerous examples of killings of non-Igbos by Biafra troops. No wonder people in Port Harcourt never returned Igbo houses to them after the war. They were treated terribly by the Igbo race.

The truth is that the other tribes in the Niger Delta will never follow the Igbos. Isaac Boro Adaka, an Ijaw man led a revolt against the Government of Nigeria in 1966. He questioned why the Niger Delta did not have more control of it’s resources and declared the republic of the Niger Delta in 1966. Guess who quelled the rebellion. A certain Emeka Odimegwu Ojukwu. Why? He wanted the Igbos to continue to control the Oil rich Niger Delta at the time. Why didn’t Ojukwu support Isaac Boro Adaka at the time.

The truth is that no one is deceived by Nnamdi Kanu and his folly. He can have his Biafra and I believe every non-Igbo in Nigeria wants the Igbo to leave Nigeria. However, they will go it alone. My advice to Igbos on this platform is to stop ranting and insulting other tribes. All they need do is convince Nnamdi Kanu to accept the offer of 5 Igbo States, Igbo speaking Rivers and Delta.
