You could try teaching. I don’t know much about that. If you get bored of teaching and want to enter the industry again, you could do any certification you like, watch loads on videos on it and try your luck. There are loads of IT jobs, just pick the one that suits you the most
Teaching is hard in the Uk cos of the kind of kids we have these days, you need the right temperament and thick skin.

I like to encourage women into tech and help them with their journey but because I do this for free, I’m not always available and don’t take too many people on. I just stand as support, someone to rub mind with, cheerlead and help plan career. There’s another lady that helps, I don’t believe she charges (she may), I got her permission to put her name here but I need to respect her privacy so I keep deleting it.

I at this point too, have not spent up to 1 year. Did you go ahead with the application? Any tips for me?

I don’t think you need to spend 1 year. According to the uk gov website, you need to have lived here for at least 185days.

I haven’t applied as well. I think this 185days thingy is a new rule because people usually apply anytime when they enter the country.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. This has actually been giving me sleepless nights, I thought it’s just hubby that can get sponsored, since he’s the one schooling.
Thing is, I have quite a number of qualifications (ICAN,ACCA,Msc and almost done with CFA too ) and I’m eyeing some top Audit firms where my friends work in UK…So I thought since I’m just a dependant, I might not get a sponsored job

Thanks once again

Hiya,

I sent you a PM. There are some openings in a Big4 and it will suit you.

See monitoring spirit grin

You can't just jump to conclusion without knowing the facts. As of 2013, I am pretty sure most on this thread would have advised the same. PSW (if you know what the meant) closed to all applicants on 6 April 2012. After studies and no sponsorship or other means, it's as good as leaving the country. His comment said at the moment , current hostile immigration climate so I don't know what you are all about.

Now that there is PSW, lots of students are trooping in and the immigration rules are relaxed and friendlier esp due to brexit.

As for the NO part which is even completely not related, Can you yourself work 20 hrs per week in naija, (still pay rent and bills) and pay off a debt of N2M not to talk to £10k

I have seen so many people declaring interest in tech.
I wish we had a small hub where new tech enthusiast with UK in mind can come together and share tips, career path etc.
Honestly i have been underestimating my small frontend skill till i searched on indeed and saw how much pay i can get. .
On this note i have sent you a PM .
we can have a group of 5 -10 like minded individual with an existing knowledge of ICT.
We would appreciate all senior members who are already working in the tech to help us with one or two guidelines

This shouldn't be a big deal, explain that in a letter then most importantly attach your outward and inward boarding pass or ticket/ stamp in your passport etc.

During my application i had to do that even as i did not spend more than 100days in total.

I printed out my exit and entry stamps and attach them in my application package while i made reference to it in my letter

Thank you . Will do that

I would like to ask a very important question that almost every new person relocating to the UK would have asked or have it in mind.

The question is- What happens after the PSW Post study work visa?

For me I see this question as what can I do to ensure I make use of the 2 years post study work visa to ensure I make the best use of the PSW and get a job that can sponsor before it expires.

Please honourable members, I would need your support and practical contributions on this topic. This would in turn help alot of people here to plan well and be strategic with certain moves.

Thank you all.

To answer your question about what happens after PSW: if you don't get a company that will sponsor your skilled work visa or go through another route to extend your visa, you will have to leave.

The good news is that you have 3 years to get a job that will sponsor your visa.

You have to start applying for jobs now. Instead of concentrating on survival jobs, spend quality time applying for grad jobs. Learn how to answer competency questions. Work on your CV. Learn about assessment centres. While some people will get the 1st job they applied for, some will get the 500th job. So keep applying and don't be discouraged. I have been through the process myself. While I was lucky to get a job before I finished my MSc., a lot of my friends got good jobs during PSW while some had to go back home.

Go through the list of skilled work visa sponsor and strategically apply to those that sponsor. No point applying to those that cannot give you COS. Target companies that are already sponsoring. They are usually open minded and have process in place to sponsor.

Hi, i dont know about barter but a way to get proof of residency is via your GP. i paid about 15 pounds to receive a proof of address letter. used that to open my bank account with Lloyds Bank.

One has to eat while they're job hunting.
Best advice would be to apply to anywhere you can fit, particular focus on potential sponsors, yes, but focusing on them alone isn't advisable.

Put in your applications, strategise, open your mind (lorry drivers too are potential Tier 2 sponsored parties), work hard on standing out from the (very large) crowd, pray hard, and draft a Plan B.

If you're planning to leave Nigeria, then tell her not to waste time or money on any prog.

Canada's own worse pass UK undecided she will have to start all over again in canada. Top up degree or a 2year diploma, with a pass mark in Biomedical certification exam.

She cannot practice as a biomedical scientist in uk with a MSc Biomedical Science.

For certifications, she may be able to combine it with her studies, prices range from £2500 - £4000 depending on what she wants to go for.
Please, how long do these top up courses take for a biochemistry graduate? Also, will I be restricted to only 20 hours when I start those courses?

Good that you pointed that out..

There are some uncomfortable truth that need to be told regarding PSW, the number of people that got graduate job with that permit is negligible. So don't hold that visa and focus on graduate jobs alone and neglect other jobs because...

1. You need money for plan B, if not for anything at least to recover money spent studying here

2. Rent and bills need to be paid

3. Don't leave gap on your cv

Yes PSW allows you to stay and work for 2yrs but actually its not a proper work permit, it just buy you time.

I'm not saying this to discourage anybody.
