I would like to ask a very important question that almost every new person relocating to the UK would have asked or have it in mind.

The question is- What happens after the PSW Post study work visa?

For me I see this question as what can I do to ensure I make use of the 2 years post study work visa to ensure I make the best use of the PSW and get a job that can sponsor before it expires.

Please honourable members, I would need your support and practical contributions on this topic. This would in turn help alot of people here to plan well and be strategic with certain moves.

Thank you all.

If you are strategic about living in the UK, you will be able to position yourself academically within 24 months. There are a few key areas that are valuable to the government in terms of work: Care/Social Work, IT(Coding), NHS, Business Analysis, etc. If you choose one of the paths, you can get a few certifications while you work in other areas to make money. With your certifications and a few good referrals, you can get a good job that can sponsor your visa

dupyshoo:
To answer your question about what happens after PSW: if you don't get a company that will sponsor your skilled work visa or go through another route to extend your visa, you will have to leave.

The good news is that you have 3 years to get a job that will sponsor your visa.

You have to start applying for jobs now. Instead of concentrating on survival jobs, spend quality time applying for grad jobs. Learn how to answer competency questions. Work on your CV. Learn about assessment centres. While some people will get the 1st job they applied for, some will get the 500th job. So keep applying and don't be discouraged. I have been through the process myself. While I was lucky to get a job before I finished my MSc., a lot of my friends got good jobs during PSW while some had to go back home.

Go through the list of skilled work visa sponsor and strategically apply to those that sponsor. No point applying to those that cannot give you COS. Target companies that are already sponsoring. They are usually open minded and have process in place to sponsor.

Put in your applications, strategise, open your mind (lorry drivers too are potential Tier 2 sponsored parties), work hard on standing out from the (very large) crowd, pray hard, and draft a Plan B.

Hi dear, this your post just dropped my morale. My husband got an offer to study at your side. Computer science (advanced study) I will be joining as dependant. But me I can't stay up to 2 or 3 months waiting for job o. Will loose my mind worse not getting a job at all.

Please is there hope of getting a better life there? Is it really green.? Are there really jobs? And can one make savings from it after settling cost of living.

Ps: he just started a digital biz which is striving, will you advice he leaves it for further studies?

I just laughed when I saw your question, men I left the banking work back, though the deposit target was getting unbearable, when I arrived UK this year, I nearly fell into depression when I was recruited to care work right out of 10 days quarantine, Men I look back at suit and tie bank work and the white ass on the mess up bed I was told to clean. But to be sincere the first 2 weeks was funny, I would have treck back to Naija if I had my way, but now I adjusted a bit, trying to get my study going. Just prepare yourself, it just different experience base on the circumstances you will meet.
No magician here that will forcast it for you. But a similar trend will occur, which is the first month, you will feel like you running back to Naija, unless you came loaded with cash

While I sympathise with you and am glad you overcame the near-descent into depression, is the job you currently hold in eldercare that much of a mismatch between your expectations and reality?

Look at your post in 2013 discouraging peeps from settling in UK

But 8 years on …you still there
I fear Nigerians in UK advising peeps in Nigeria not to come over

Those set of people are more evil than buhari

Look at his post 2013 …
2021 …you keep telling them “NO”

I was going to respond to this, but thankfully, I see others have responded. However, I would have to be on my good behaviour from now on as it seems my historic posts are being monitored. I'm thinking I should go delete my posts from back in the day in the romance section when I used to troll with 190 and Sexkillz. grin

I don't understand why you are bringing Buhari into this though, I'm actually a fan of his.

I’m trying to understand what was doing me the day i typed “job shortage”. I meant “worker shortage”. My brain said one thing and my finger typed another. That’s why asked why he wanted to come to my side since there are loads of jobs.

Tech is good. Someone posted a twitter name for you to follow. The twitter person posts about tech careers. Use that as a stepping stone then follow people with that same career on LinkedIn. Follow loads of Tech Recruiters too.

Look for the job you want and paraphrase the familiar job skills into yours. Trust yourself, you’ll be fine. Unfortunately this is a faceless place and I’ll like to remain faceless.

I think project management is in occupational shortlist(please have a look to be sure) but forget about international relations if you want to get a graduate job to stay back.

Lastly ..(.i know this is hard one) but if you can get afford it get admission in a good school with good ranking

Corruption, insecurity and the dearth of infrastructure (good roads, power supply, rail transport etc). He is doing his best to tackle this triad curse in my opinion. I don't think there is a magic wand that can be used to take away all of the problems of Nigeria overnight. It will take a few baby steps and a few good leaders to get to where we want to be. I may be wrong, but deep down, I think he is an incorruptible leader who means well, but is sadly, overwhelmed by the challenges of governing a country like Nigeria.

Nigeria is a complex country to govern; the abnormal is normalized, whilst the normal is perceived as abnormal.

You are simply delusional if you really think this. If Buhari means well for Nigerians, the first step should be employing/appointing competent people into key positions.

You also do realize that he’s a dictator, right? Just see attached images for events ONLY in the past two days. Let’s not forget they banned the usage of Twitter too.

It’s really pathetic if you do believe what you’ve written up there.

This is the kind of response they usually give “you will feel like running back to Nigeria yen yen yen” but you didn’t come back right

My dear sis who asked ,brace up ,migrate if you can ,one way or the other ,you will survive,

My sis moved to the UK 3 years back ,after completing the pharmacy degree in New Delhi,India …

She’s doing so well as a pharmacist there, that she practically used her earnings to complete the house our father was building in lagos ,Nigeria.

I am just sick and tired of seeing Nigerians staying in the UK and stylishly telling others not to migrate.

That other one was even claiming to support Buhari and he thinks Nigeria is getting better…just imagine

I will say it again…Nigerians in UK advising others not to migrate are evil period !

Even if you won’t become the richest person in UK, you are sure of a decent life for your kids and security …Nigeria is a no no !

On tier2 sponsorship: Do we have our people in business here in the UK with sponsorship licence and ready to employ our graduates here? The Asians are into this, helping thier people and expanding.
When are we going to become selfless? We have our people in care but careless to get sponsorship licence, sadly this licence is cheap to get. Our people need us, help....we are good people, we are hard-working, encourage your own.
* If you have a legitimate business in the UK and qualified to get a sponsorship licence, pm me I will contribute to you getting it to help our UK graduates.

Why don’t you take the lead? Since you have this noble idea, why not register a legitimate business, get a sponsorship licence and employ as many Nigerians as you want? After you’ve done that with some degree of success, come back here and share your story, I’m sure others will follow in your footsteps.

If I can or qualified, I would. Reason I offered to support with what I can to those that have businesses already.

One of the advice I give to people who intend to move abroad is to manage their expectations.

Be ready to start all over again!!!

I mean the fact that you're a bank manager in Nigeria doesn't mean you would get same job offer waiting for you there.

Mental preparation is a must and cannot be overemphasized.

Loneliness - check.
Depression -check.
Menial/Unskilled jobs - check
A little bit of up skilling - check

I'm not saying the above applies to everybody as there are exceptions but for the majority, it's the same story.
