One of my reason for migrating is to give my kids the best life.
Afterall if my fore fathers went into slave trade back then, i for don experience snowby now.
Fellow Nigerians reading this.
Jappa from this country if you can, you'll be glad you did.
It really dosent matter what you doing when you get there as long as you have a game plan.

People have talked ill about carejobs and how if did not measure up to their former working ethics back in 9ja.(omo dont mind them o).
I know someone who used carejob to build a nice structure back home.
.
Thank you for speaking the truth

The thing most of them usually forget the goal …E Dey always worry me when I see these people saying “life in UK or US is hard bla bla bla”

Anyone who don stay overseas for a good number of years ,and can’t land his family or himself a property in Nigeria is a pure waste !
And should come back home and allow another set go abeg !!!

For Christ sake , have had stack illiterate uncles who one or the other found dia way overseas ,some even overstayed dia visas ,refused to come back hustled so hard to give dia family something back home

My closest uncle overseas Issa plumber ,when he came home visiting last December in IMO state, na police escort Dey follow am up n down

Fine ,you can’t be overly rich overseas …but that money you make there will do alot back home (if you are wise)

My father used to say “you can’t live abroad forever, you will likely still come back home one day ,best you can do is just work hard while dia economy is still good” coz you never can tell UK or US might just turn to venuezuela with bad economy one day.

Dollars and pounds ain’t joke …These are real hard currencies that can do wonders back home !

Use your head !!!

One of the advice I give to people who intend to move abroad is to manage their expectations.

Be ready to start all over again!!!

I mean the fact that you're a bank manager in Nigeria doesn't mean you would get same job offer waiting for you there.

Mental preparation is a must and cannot be overemphasized.

Loneliness - check.
Depression -check.
Menial/Unskilled jobs - check
A little bit of up skilling - check

I'm not saying the above applies to everybody as there are exceptions but for the majority, it's the same story.
True

After a while ,that person should be just fine after settling in

Career path is very important
Electrician
Plumbering
Auto mechanic
Any valuable handwork (just learn something)

It must not be IT or tech this or that

Lately, there was a news where UK said it needed 10,000 tank drivers

One would assume these jobs aren’t paying well, that why they need that much drivers but a quick look of how much an average tanker gets in the UK alone …lol… is enough to start practicing how to drive tankers

Don’t be lazy ,learn a thing or two before migrating

Nigeria today is a no no !!!

You can actually put together that little penny and start one , with time you will see yourself employing Nigerian graduates.

Following with interest. There are really opportunities in unlikely places here for people if you keep an open mind and keep looking.

I saw an Ad Yodel made last week; they are looking for anyone with a small van willing to partner with them for deliveries in their locality. Payment is £2.50 per parcel and you are expected to do 9-11hour or over 100 deliveries per day. That’s easily £250 per day gross. Wallahi if not for fear of dogs biting me amongst other things I considered the idea ASAP grin I think it’s brilliant! And you can grow the business.

Next thing you know you have 3 vans and are grossing 18k gross monthly. Not bad at all.

Anyhoo, there’s hope and opportunity here sha. Me I’m team business for a few reasons and I hope I one day build something I’m proud of smiley

Good morning

Good morning

Good idea, but there are things like commercial van insurance, the eliminated IR35 rules and things like that that will cut deeply into those projected figures. This is apart from T&Cs and small print - the delivery companies usually apply targets, for instance you only get so-and-so amount if you make so-and-so number of deliveries a day, and those thresholds are usually not as achievable as they may sound.

Not to discourage you or your idea for setting up a business, which I think is laudable. Still trying to manage what I've got in Nigeria myself, might just end up selling up and look into setting up something here.

No it’s okay. Not discouraged at all.
Some of what you’ve said is True. That’s why I stated that the figures are gross. But I’m aware that people are working for a full month in 9-5’s and earning less than £2,500 in this UK. After deductions doing this you should be doing better figures than that.

Plus there is room for growth. If you know what you’re doing. Best part imo.

Why the fascination with owning a property in Nigeria?.... What use is the property, if the person got no more plans in Nigeria?.....

I would rather own 3 properties in the UK, than 12 in Nigeria........

Your father is/was very wrong...... You can live abroad forever (and be buried abroad).........

Never attempt to be that God in Nigeria, whilst living like a slave abroad....... Those you are attempting to Lord over, would continually live their lives, when you kick that bucket...... They would only mourn you for a few hours.........

Correct.
Owning your own residential property in Nigeria in which you never or rarely live but hold on to purely to show your home people you've arrived (or out of some village mentality) is pointless.

As for burial, I have absolutely no interest in where my corpse is planted postmortem (or even whether it is planted at all, after all cremation plans are way cheaper than funeral plans).

Thank you so much for this. This is always my opinion.

Is it the money that people drain into property in Nigeria that will take ages to complete?

Who are you building the houses for? The children that are in the UK or is it for when you are ready to retire. The house may not even be liveable by then and why will you want to go and stay permanently in Nigeria when you are old without access to health care

With this ever increasing exchange rate, it does not make sense for business reason as well.

Corruption, insecurity and the dearth of infrastructure (good roads, power supply, rail transport etc). He is doing his best to tackle this triad curse in my opinion. I don't think there is a magic wand that can be used to take away all of the problems of Nigeria overnight. It will take a few baby steps and a few good leaders to get to where we want to be. I may be wrong, but deep down, I think he is an incorruptible leader who means well, but is sadly, overwhelmed by the challenges of governing a country like Nigeria.

Nigeria is a complex country to govern; the abnormal is normalized, whilst the normal is perceived as abnormal.

Doing his best or doing absolutely nothing .....

Well on the issue of spending the rest of your life abroad is left to you

Some of us , are only sons of our fathers (I handle our family pharmaceutical business, we into importing of drugs) ,some of us still value our culture … (if I die 2day, I would still love to buried in my home)… forget na Nigeria sweet and our people get fun vibes…Na economy and our government wey bad dey spoil here

There’s a reason while some people pay as high as 5 million to bring back corpse of dia beloved ones from overseas to be buried home

Home na Home baba !!!

The major reason ,a lot of people are migrating is solely because of the economy of today Nigeria is bad

That is why ,you see a 40 year old man looking for student visa ,just to japa

Let’s tell ourselves the truth
If 1 dollar was = 1 naira

You won’t find 50 percent of the people at the embassy, infact even those in the UK would want to come back home self

Na better life dey make our people wan jabo …nothing else.
