The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has rejected what it called the persistent double standards in federal government policies and initiatives.

HURIWA said the Federal Government through the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was trying to cause separation between the Yoruba and Igbo nations.

The group was responding to Malami’s claims that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) was responsible for some disturbances during last year’s End SARS protests in Lagos State.

Malami had said IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu hijacked the EndSARS protest and ordered his followers to kill security operatives.

However, HURIWA said Malami was playing a politics of divide and rule aimed at segregating the Igbos and Yorubas.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA said: “It is possible that the Minister of Justice who is a politician is playing politics of EAST/WEST DIVIDE so as to precipitate political division between Igbo people and the Yoruba and then open up the possibility of retaining power in the North.

“There is a clear evidence of double standards in the area of public prosecution of politically exposed individuals from either north or south. The government, particularly the Ministry of Justice has consistently manifested aversion or lack of enthusiasm towards bringing suspected terrorists from the Northern part of Nigeria to justice but he is always overzealous to charge other persons from the south with certain phantom allegation of of terrorism and the Justice ministry is busy conjuring up half baked allegations to hang it on the necks of either Nnamdi Kanu or Sunday Igboho.

“A good example will suffice; Nnamdi Kanu versus Certain elements and Divisive leaders of Miyetti Allah that have been quoted in the media for supporting the activities of the armed Fulani herdsmen who are terrorists.”

HURIWA also condemned Malami’s claim about Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho.

Am still waiting for someone to tell my why Igbos in lagos don't listen to kanu on any other issue like sit at home only for kanu to mobilize dem within 24 hours to destroy lagos, I mean the Igbos we are talking about here are spare part dealers, okirika sellers, roadside sellers, electronics dealers etc. Den at the same time d Mushin, oshodi, and all other agberos scattered around lagos chose to stay in their house and watch Igbos burn down properties .

I used to hear a lot about how educated South westerners are until I lived in lagos moreover the Endsars blame on igbo goes a long way to show how dumb a lot of persons are

U have never heard of Igbos destroying properties or fighting anybody before outside igboland even though I do witness firsthand how the agbero task collectors treat dem, in market igbo women are not allowed to sell anything yoruba women are selling, upon all these u will never see dem fight anybody yet the so called educated people will always be first to say igbos don't respect their hosts.

The North can keep playing their division cards well as long as some so called educated dummies are falling for it no problem
