tutudesz:BAD news Unless if later to fit with modern RCWS EO or KPV or ZSU23, or else its new NA sardine tin cans replacing damaged old Steyr APC. No thermal night vision, No gun stabilizer, No superior firepower. NA should have copied Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka Army CT-COIN choice buy 40 units same Type 89 in IFV version RCWS 25 mm longer ranges 3 km rapido fire full-automatic-cannon to slaughter ISWAP dead, because IFV is amphibious, just add IED n RPG protection, simple. Guys here asking for better infantry firepower with nite optics, Nigeria no get money, our Army n MoD wasting our little cash. Ordinary Zamfara Bandits DShK Toyotruck fire to sides n rear or RPG will destroy all these 60 APC and our soldiers inside it to tiny pieces. Waste of money Not game changer.

Fynline:it looks like the federal government has decided to turn to China , Russia and fmr soviet states for the procurement of weapons for our armed forces , this is highly commendable. Hope they will fit 23 mm or kpv cannons on these babies for maximum effects on these terrorists. |

youghs:The term "way too high" is subjective and opinion based from my personal expectations and experiences. Yes shockingly for some and many may disbelieve but this year I've spent 7 months in Nigeria, over several trips. my view is first hand knowledge based not media anchored. So unless you can substantiate your view and quantify it with figures and events , you should not call anyone ignorant. Because you have low expectations and enthrone mediocrity , I don't have to join you in your misguided delusions. |

komekn:Would it make any sense for the navy to deploy to the location after knowing that the Russians were closer to the scene? The Russians could have gotten the distress signal first and might have communicated their readiness to help with naval HQ though that isn't necessary so far the Nigerian navy was aware of their presence in Nigeria's EEZ. It could have also been that it was NN that got the information first and knowing there is a naval vessel close to the scene inform the Russians and solicit for their help. There are videos and pictures of the NN doing something similar on this thread. NN has also rescued vessels outside of Nigeria's EEZ several times. |

keep2silent:It is not too heart-warming but still a good news, NA could have done better but the motive could have been finding a reasonable replacement for guntrucks in the hot zones in reasonable QUANTITY. I doubt they could get 40 modern IFVs for the price of 60 of these and its not like IFVs are indestructible. A little modification such as adding cage armor to these will significantly reduce the risk of rpgs. And in addition to the MTLBs and BMPs, it will definitely tilt the balance more in favor of NA in the next offensive. The MTLBs were reported to have been very effective in the last offensive. And with increasing numbers of tracked platforms, NA's ability to continue offensive deep into the raining seasons increases. |

And I'm also glad NA is deepening relations with NORINCO, they have almost everything NA needs and with time, NA might get some TOT. In fact I see no other reason why they can't give TOT for this type 89 APC other than the quantity ordered. It is an old system that doesn't pose any significant threat to any military, in fact China should be retiring it soon. |

NA also reportedly been ordered 100 CS/VP3 'Bigfoot' MRAPs from Norinco. https://www.africanmilitaryblog.com/2021/03/nigerian-army-orders-more-cs-vp3-bigfoot-mrap We just need the commitment of the MNJTF that they'll deliver the same intensity they we definitely will and we'll make very significant progress this dry season |

This is totally unfair, unacceptable and a clear case of hatred against the Police by the current administration of PMB. We are a vital actor in the theatre, currently, the police has more than 5 squadron deployed in the NE. In the last 6yrs of PMB, the Police has benefited nothing from a logistical point of view. NAF got 12 Tucanos, 3 JF-17, they're expecting more MI and drones. The Army on the other hand has gotten its fair share of logistics. Not a single pump action or tear gas was purchase for the Police. How do you expect the Police to take over liberated territories from the army? Are we going to use those rickety Nissan vehicles and Shagari era APCs we have? No body should come here and be complaining that the police are not living up to expectations. Everyone is watching this board daylight neglect. NafeesaAA:Recommended but not compulsory. ![]() The police need to organize themselves better else Government will give more attention and funding to road safety than police. At some point, the army was almost like the police but quickly did the needful. Reorganizing the police force can come from within. |

Whyem15:Mate, I cant blame you for being optimistic o, abi wetin man pikin go do now? ![]() But sha in 2015 NA used 43 tokunbo T-72 tanks to recapture like 60 towns in 8 weeks what 136 new Vickers tanks cannot do in a whole year, night vision n RPG resistant made big difference, gave us victory in 2015. Yes IFV of hull n belly STANAG 4, RPG cage, is nearly indestructible to Naija Bandits, BHT, ISWAP, such IFV is d real game changer. Type 89 IFV uses low-cost RCWS 25mm with cheap IR night vision as China makes it specially very cheaply affordable, easy to use, effective power, thats why poor armies Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, etc rushed to buy it plenty. But why waste effort to fix RPG cage on APC that its sides and rear can only resist ordinary AK-47 rifle? No mind our Naija Army n MoD big men joor, they dont care for best choice Cheapest may not solve problem as our 10 years war now turn to nationwide insecurity. NA needs equipment thats able to bring us final solution not just plenty of ineffective cheapest vehicles in market°

keep2silent:Final solution?. What does this mean exactly. I think we got the best equipment for the threat level and threat nature. We don't want think skin vehicles We want to be able to storm defences in all terrains We want decent fire support whilst disembarking This solution fits everything. Nobody uses this mechanized infantry tool without IFVs, a few light tanks and even some eye in the skies providing back up. RWS/RCWS are near useless and expensive to own. Nobody has actually talked about use case, operatability and reliability in the whole fog of was situation. The only thing missing in this solution is an active protection system APS like GL5 but the MBTS and IFVs in convoy would have that and there are just too many other sensors active during an offensive to destroy any hostile with RPG or RCL quickly |

youghs:What's the use case for RWS/RCWS? - the ability to hide somewhere in the vehicle or in another vehicle and shoot? If you think 'soldiers' want this then rethink. Maybe it's only justification is trying to bring choppers down when the enemy is a conventional force |

NafeesaAA:You have spoken well NafeesaAA. I have been on the proposing side for better equipping and functionality of the NPF, given them the right tools and reengineering structurally to enable them do a better job for all Nigerians. You spoke well and anyone without a whimp idea on the shallow thinking and stinking corruption bedeviling them even at the expense of their lives seamlessly bounding the officers, the rank and file would fall for theses gimmicks just as i had. Gimmicks? Yes, ma'am Gimmicks. I wouldn't dwell on the outright corruption, we all know is a bone stuck in their necks they rather die with than vomit but preferably, i would be reveling to you the simple things that must have led to their unrespected status when it comes to budgeting and allocations in Nigeria. We all know most institutions, hospitals, federal parastatals and varsities have all suffered from the Nigeria's governments underfunding but did that ever stop them from carrying out their basic constitutional roles the best way they can? No!. Have you been to a hospital and there wasn't any form of help because of governments underfunding, in worse case scenarios you pay and they get the work done, but with the Nigeria police force we have seen a "Total disregard" of their basic roles and functions with the excuse of underfunding. Policing the country, crime prevention and enforcement of justice have been thrown out the window; if it doesn't bring in money then they say 'it be damned', and even when it brings out money nothing is done else they share amongst a few and do nothing why?, The Nigeria police force has forfeited it's roles to the Armed forces of Nigeria. Basic patrols have been turn to to money milking venture, investigations barely yield results at the community and divisional levels, they can barely contain street crime and urchins, home bulgers and armed robbers give police a run for their training leaving them with unbeaten most times. Our marine units, Mopol units and the strategic checkpoints have all lost it's relevance everything has been suited for one aim and one aim alone to 'Extort' eroding professionalism for an institution that can be bought, not only bought; but cheaply as it stands. These has made people to lose faith in them, they rather kill criminals (Jungle justice) than hand them to the police for prosecution . All these was pointing to anarchy and gradually gave the federal government more impetus to allow the army step in the police as didn't show competence at any level and the NA at least wouldn't be cheaply bought by just anybody. We have been in more recent times battling with insurgency and now banditry, what capacity has the police brought to show it wants to fight for it's place on the table? We have seen the NIGERIA ARMY AND THE AIRFORCE metamorphose to tackle the challenges head on, we saw several trainings by the army from conventional Orbat to CT-COIN warfare, same with the Airforce giving birth to the Panthers. What has the Nigeria police force done 'efficiently' to enhance their capacity knowing they police the largest expanse of land?, they gave birth to CT TRAINING TO SOME PERSONNELS, which most have now been channeled to Special protection units for those individuals with big bags in the society, all the investment by the federal government now wasted, the investment in special weapons and trucks left to rot. Why aren't the police changing the Orbat to tackling non-state actor whenever they might arise from in any part of the country before the army is drafted in?. SOLUTION: It's going to be a long road but they should stop their rhetoric's and create a special Swat team, with about a 100 men in each state, they should be well equipped with tactical gears, armored and soft skin mobility(APC 2 per state X 36 =72), heavy firepower and communications. They would be spaced in each state at least into four teams comprising of 25 men for each formation, they should have their own building's within the police division commands and one at the state command no matter how small provisions should be made for their hostels and lounge. This team would form the tip of the spear for any challenge too overwhelming for the Mopol units in any state. They aren't for patrols except in critical times, each roll out squad should comprise of a 10 man team, meaning we have two teams and a reserve of 5 men. These 5 men must be at the base incase of backups or emergencies when a unit calls. If they can stay highly disciplined and dedicated they would motivate a face lift of the Nigeria police force. You as an IGP can invite the CiC, members of the senate and HoR for your annual drills and wispher your needs in campaigning for more budget allocations. Let's talk about your budget, have you seen the police budget for and their supplementary budgets?, you would weep, THEY COMPLAIN OF BEEN UNDERFUNDED BUT you would see an outright lack of foresight, what is their short and long term plan? it was rather full of sadist heart breaking tags which gives a pointer to the fact these men aren't rather to take charge of their roles. Anyone who has the budget can help post it to show the cancer with planning, killing the NPF. Let's talk about the massive funding by their special protection units running into billions as reported sometime back during the last IGP'S tenure, cooperate organization, well meaning Nigerians and the most importantly the support by the state's government, example LASG,RVSG and a whole lot of others. What is their maintenance culture? Everything isn't about money. The police has programmed itself for failure with their redundancy and outright lack of planning. Respect is earned not given, did you notice the last security meeting where the President was briefed at the state house the Igp wasn't in attendance? |
