Let's call a spade a spade.

The reason why building collapse is rife in Lagos and Nigeria in general is because we do not use the Building Code. In the rare instance that it is used, the Code is not enforced.
In fact, most people are not aware a building code exists talk more of abiding by its standards.

Constructors easily bypass mandatory safety measures through the aid of corruption, cutting cost on building materials and resources.

This building is the epitome of corruption and the epitome of all that is wrong with this country.

We need to get our act together or Nigerians will continue to die needless deaths.
let investigation b done first before concluding.

Nigerians and their obsession for non indigenous professionals though.
I don't even know how they come to this skewed conclusion that every white man should be better than his black counterpart.

Errr... back in their home countries they build to national standards? I don't even know that we have a building code here in Nigeria. And if we do, then it definitely isn't enforced giving some wirings I've seen. I was looking at an electrical box recently and could not tell which line was "hot" looking at the colours

What if the owner had given money for the right things to be done but the contractor did the reverse.

Life has a way of rewarding wicked people. There is no way that building would have collapsed when people have occupied it. God is always faithful & just. Since the standard have been compromised, then it shows the owner is a murderer and this is just a case of karma at place

Femi Osibona, the developer of 360 Degrees Towers is seen here inspecting the multi-storey buildings in Lagos with his Italian architects and engineers a while back.

Osibona, was reportedly on a visit to the site of the building when it collapsed on Gerard Road, Ikoyi today. He is presently trapped inside with colleagues, workers and security details. We hope he and the others survive.

Brought foreign architects to build a high tower with substandard materials, the government and ministry of work are not checkmating these projects to make sure it’s up to standard recommended.

As much as this is a sad event to many families whose loves are either trapped in there or death.

I am glad that the Femi guy is trapped in there. Nigerians like cutting corners. I am sure he took out the right amount of loan or investors fund to complete that project but as a typical "sharp" guy he would use some of it to bankroll his frivolous life style. Then try to manage what is left.

If he survives I hope he turns a new leaf otherwise I wish his family the fortitude to bear.

NB: as for those saying that the building didn't give a sign that it was going to collapse. Building don't give sign it just go down. That is why you have to do the right time to ensure that something like this doesn't happen.

If he comes out alive, he will not still go to jail. He has money abd connections. Those that died are mainly peasants/ labourers. They will just settle their poor families with 2 million each and case closed

OK...the owner of the building was even trapped inside

This is justice well served!

I hope others learn from this

Poetic justice? Imagine if the structure was completed and occupied the story would have been worse, all because of greed and our penchant for everything short-cut and corruption.
The building had to wait for it's owner and the other people in charge to be present before going down. Moral of the story... don't let your greed get the best of you.

If the story is true, it's a clear case of you will reap what you sow. I hope they come out alive.

With all the controversies around this building, from the governor sealing it off last year to the withdrawal of an engineering consultancy sometimes in February, it shows that something is wrong and the building integrity have been compromised which the owner is well aware of. He can't deny that fact. Also remember at the top of the head of the owner is "max profit" he can't invest such money and not expect huge ROI.
The fact is standard for that building have been compromised. Remember that 15 story have been rumored to be approved for the building. If true, the owner might initially with to contractor made a solid foundation that will accommodate the 15 story building based on calculation and required metrics. However, as the building is rising, the owner may start to dream bigger that the building can go higher than 15 story forgetting that foundation was designed to accommodate only the 15 story building.

Anyone blaming the architects is wrong. The job of an architect is only to make the building plan and design on paper or CAD. The engineers works on the design layout and proceed with construction. The big question is who are the engineers?

See belle! Why are Nigerian men lazy to exercise and control protruded bellies. I hate that thing, even it's rampant among Nigerian women too. Keeping fit is a must for every living thing including animals.

You see dogs, cats, lions stretching their bodies to keep fit.

If so,then why go to Germany to study? Why not study in Nigeria to acquire indigenous education so as to become an indigenous professional too.

So bad belle people thinking Femi is trapped in the building are probably deceiving themselves.
