Over 90 percent of cases of building collapse in Nigeria, happen in Lagos. Lagosians why? why? why are you so wicked? why are you so greedy?
Lagos why do you full of bad people? I dont know why I dislike Lagos people. scamming, stealing, robbery, violence, lack of moral uprightness are what lagosians term as smartness. If you dont engage in such practices, you are suegbe, as far as they are concerned.

Mud houses that were built in my village as early as 1930s, 1940s, some a storey buildings, some, two or more storeys structures are still very much there till today.

Lagosians, who do you this?
Most mega constructions happen in Lagos. The number of buildings erected in your village in one year is what happens in Sangotedo every month.

Secondly, the soil in lagos especially around the coastal areas are softer and require a complex form of foundation that some builders unfortunately cheapen on.

Thirdly, there are a lot of greedy people in Lagos who are bent on cheating the projects where they are employed. Diverting materials from mega projects to their own private sites. Imagine someone building a complete bungalow from materials he stole from building a duplex.

As a former survivor of a building collapse, lemme tell you what it's like..

It's like a dream, one minute you're seeing the sunlight the next minute, it's darkness, you find yourself in an awkward position unable to move face/ mouth/eyes covered in debris. You have zero idea what is going on, you can't open your mouth to shout , it take nearly 30minutes to realise you're trapped, it's extremely hot and your lungs struggle to find air. Most people faint out of air deprivation and shock.
You shout but you only hear your own voice, 70% of the time , you're unable to move, you just lie there and try to access the damage, which of your legs or arms are broken or trapped, for someone who stayed under for two days, by luck, I could find a break out that channeled air and sunlight, many aren't that lucky,at nights, you're covered with different creeping and crawling bugs, you just pray you don't get bitten by a snake, roaches and ants are all over you., Rain even though you think is a problem is actually one of the best blessings, it brings water, cools the temperature and reduce the bugs, if the rain is heavy it can help U move large rocks ,one second day, there was heavy downpour, and I was able to push a heavy rock which trapped by leg under the water and climb upwards to escape.

Most of the effort will have to come from the people trapped than rescue workers ,(as per naija). The biggest scare is when they move ther bulldozer around and rocks from top falls on you, you just pray for luck while you lie there.

A good rescue team will instead of using bulldozer they'd first send in a pipe than transmit, cold air and oxygen into the collapse spot to supply air, then they measure thickness of the rocks, areas with light thickness are drilled and an opening formed where they go in and build mini pillars to hold the building from dropping further, they read heat waves of place to see signature of human movement and then target those areas. Ours are just outside shouting and using hammer to hit rocks . The sad statistics is that on the 5th , 97% of people trapped are likely to die
From your write up I cannot imagine what you went through. But I know it was very hard for you. Happy you made it through. OVer the past year I have been telling my friends that the desperation for money in Nigeria is too much and people are now embracing all possible "get rich or die trying" attitude. Even in my family men and women of honour over the years have now become men and women who worship money. I don't know how we got here as a nation. Everyone is cutting corners

And the Governor is busy forming panel cry

What can we boast of in this country?
What exactly would you have him do? He should relocate his office to the site, drive bulldozer or use shovel to remove rubble? NEMA, CCECC, Julius Berger and Lagos state emergency response unit are all on ground. Or do you think the people on the panel are the one rescuing people or what? If after a month, report and actions are not available, we will still complain, efforts are being made to get to the root of the matter, we are still complaining

I understand all these. Thank you. But why say substandard materials. Wouldn't it be better to say they are not following the standard code?
There are two ways to it .
1. See these materials as ingredients that are used to make another product . The cement , sand , stone , water , admixtures and iron are used to produce reinforced concrete . If you do not mix these ingredients in the right proportion , you have a substandard product .

2. We also have substandard ingredients. Some Cements are rebagged ( meaning they are exposed and have already lost strength ) these are cheaper . You can have sand that isn’t sharp enough to bond with other elements . The granite might be “dead” ( this means it is weathered ). This makes it unable to holdup well when beams , floors and pillars are loaded . Lastly the reinforcement diameter sizes might not meet the production requirements . Eg iron 12mm diameter gauge might be 11.2 mm diameter gauge . All these ingredients are substandard. So you can mix in the right proportion when making the reinforced concrete and still come out with a substandard product

Regulatory bodies are to check all these on any site too .

So can't the govt do the two together? What kind of mentality is thishuh Or is it the rescue team that'll form the panel?

The initial design was for 8 floors so the foundation was designed for only 8 floors. His first approval was for 8 storeys, but he continued construction so when he got to the 10th floor, he was arrested with his workers and taken to Alausa in a black Maria. He sorted himself out and obtained approval for 15 storeys for which he paid the official amount. He was released and the site reopened with Governor's approval. Only the Governor gives approval for a stop order or reopen order on multistorey developments. The land is owned by the VP Osinbajo and he is an investor in the development. The developer- Femi Osibona who used to sell t-shirts in Abuja market is living in another property which belongs to the VP adjacent to The Gerrard Rd development. As of last week, he has two latest Rolls Royce cars parked in his compound which he just bought. The whole episode stinks and the can of worms will be opened eventually. This may consume the VP's political ambition. Sanwo-Olu suspended the GM of the Lagos Agency for effect. The guy has no power to close or reopen any multistorey development without obtaining the consent of the Governor. Construction is our business. The real culprits will be exposed eventually. VP & Sanwo are culpable. It's their investment.

In the real world, the VP and the GOVERNOR should be in custody for interrogation

Indeed Wale Bob Oseni is a mystery not yet seen. Or could he be among those dead recovered?

Since we past out from secondary school, I never set my eyes on him. Osibona was a senior to us then...

The entire Ex-mays especially the 1993 sets are in great shock and trauma...

God have mercy!
