A teacher, Comfort Mufutau, has lamented unauthorised debits to the tune of N215,000 from her Guaranty Trust Bank account for the purchase of recharge cards from an e-commerce store, Jumia Nigeria. https://punchng.com/ogun-teacher-tackles-bank-online-store-as-fraudsters-empty-account/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1636425889 4 Likes 2 Shares

Jumia couldn't have released the details of the fraudster as that is against the law. The police needs to file for an order from the court for the details of the customer to be released before jumia can do that. Releasing the details of the customer to anyone is a violation of the fraudster's right of privacy which can be sued and damages claimed 42 Likes |

You simply cannot trust our bank officials these days, the unscrupulous ones among them give customers sensitive data to fraudsters, they've been compromised 24 Likes 2 Shares |

Maxymilliano: Her SIM was probably cloned! Charging your phone in public places can contribute to that. You leave the phone unattended and someone can remove the SIM and plug it into a SIM reader/cloner device...voila! They get a blank sim and copy it back and they operate from there. SATANlST: Oga calm down! He is right. In the policy statement of most online stores, they give the mandate to protect their customer's personal information which includes profile and phone numbers. Even if a scammer clears your bank account running into millions and transfers it into his account in another bank, if you approach the bank of the thief, they will never give you his name or account details except you get a court order and summons from an anti-graft agency like EFCC with permissions duly signed by the Nigerian Police. 6 Likes 1 Share |

had such experience with my gtb but I quickly blocked my account and went to the nearest branch to complain. luckily the amount was reversed after some days. truly GTB security is porous. I found out it was because I used their website for transaction with my dongle because someone had such experience after transaction from their site. I think their website has been bugged. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I think someone working with her bank aided the transaction or her phone number was cloned. Saying she did not receive any otp until she was completely debited made me believe a bank worker was responsible 7 Likes 1 Share |

This is ridiculous. No fraud detection system, no empathy, and no accountability. Both Jumia and GTB are ignoring her because neither wants to be liable for the refund. GTB is especially stupid. This trace shouldn't be this rigorous or take this long. This is messed up and stupid. That's why people should start sueing corporations in Nigeria more. 22 Likes 2 Shares |

SATANlST:Emotions can't circumvent due process, cry from now till they kingdom come, the law is the law. When u open your own business ,be divulging your customers details,by the time they knack you law suit and damages claimed, your organization will close down. Don't blame it on village witches, blame it on your foolishness ,and idiocy 16 Likes 1 Share |

Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where we have near-zero real cyber fighting approach. What we only see is EFCC parading 18, 23, 11 Yahoo boys because they use iPhone and have cars. Worse part, along the line, the police will request for money (like 20-30k) knowing full well that the teacher's money is irrecoverable. They'll keep telling her to come back till she will be frustrated and move on with life. 1 Like 1 Share |
