Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has spoken of his delight at agreeing terms with Premier League club Watford ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Okoye will be joining the Hornets on a five-and-a-half-year deal, until June 2027, with effect from the January transfer window, but will be spending the rest of this season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam.

Watford and Sparta Rotterdam have not revealed the transfer fee but reports in the Netherlands including Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad claim that the Nigeria international is moving to the Hornets in exchange for seven million euros, making him the most expensive Nigerian goalkeeper in history.

Okoye is hoping to follow in the footsteps of retired Wolverhampton Wanderers star Carl Ikeme by becoming the second Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper to feature in the English Premier League.

"After the game against Willem II, I prepared myself for the international matches in Nigeria, but in the meantime I went to England to meet Watford," Okoye told Sparta's official website.

"That went very quickly because I had to join the national team a day later. Of course I am very proud that I can play in the Premier League, but also that I can play at Het Kasteel for our fans until the end of the season.

"Of course I really wanted this, but I also want to close it well with Sparta and that is why this is the best choice."

Okoye has made big strides in his career over the last two years, the 22-year-old was playing in the German Regionalliga West, equivalent of fourth-tier, with Fortuna Düsseldorf II in 2020.

Because a Nigerian brought all their teams from low level leagues to the top leagues save Udinese.

He helped Granada from third tier league to Laliga and Watford from second tier to EPL.

The Legend, Ighalo.

Guys,

I'm still horrified about Rivers Angel's loss to that Morrocan club.

Morocco of all countries in female football?

Seems we are gradually losing our pride in female football on the continent.
We are gradually or we lost it already. It was embarrassing to watch, especially the 3rd goal. The Moroccans beat them with everything and they were delightful to watch.

Bachmann is Austria's number 1 goalie. He impressed hugely at the Euros this summer. The only reason he has not been starting too many games is because Foster is more experienced. Both are very good keepers Okoye can learn a lot from.

However, he is nowhere near their level.
He's Austria's No. 1 doesn't mean that Maduka can't bench him. Kepa was more of La Roja's no. 1 when Mendy joined Chelsea.

And also; you can't beat your chest to call him Austria's No. 1 goalie. For sometime now, they have been trying many GKs and baba got his first start at 26 earlier this year and impressed.

It's just like what we have currently between Uzoho and Maduka. So bro, it's 50/50 and Maduka can claim the the spot.

Mendy was purchased to bench kepa ,Kepa error was too much at Chelsea

Someone that started all 4 Austria games in the euros and you still think he is not their number 1 , he started their last 5 games also ,11 caps this year alone and you said he can’t beat his chest to call him number one ,how many games Austria don play this year ?

I don’t know if Maduka can claim that spot but I hope he does

Maduka does a very good job of promoting himself. If you follow him on twitter, you'd know this.

His relationship with Oma helps too.

It appears, we don't rate him as much as the supporters of his club.

Nigerians single handedly destroyed uzoho career trajectory. A player that was fancied at a young age and playing regularly at la liga all of a sudden ended at a backwater league all because his country men assassinated his character by accusing him of age falsification
Na lie.

He lost form and started moving to lower leagues. It has happened to many. Few years back, Butlabd was England's No. 1

Mendy was bought to compete with Kepa just like Maduka to compete with Bachmann.

Like I said earlier, he impressed the coach and has been starting a match after his debut earlier this year. No doubt, he has done great for himself.

Watford No. 1 spot is open come next season and Maduka can claim it.

Twenty-one players have reported for Super Eagles duty in Morocco ahead of the national team's first training session on grass, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Maduka Okoye, William Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa, Chidozie Awaziem, Samuel Chukwueze, Kenneth Omeruo, Moses Simon, Zaidu Sanusi and Shehu Abdulahi are in line to participate in the workout following their arrival in camp.

Glasgow Rangers duo Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo have also linked up with the Super Eagles squad in Tangier.

Morocco just defeated Cameroon in the Aisha Buhari Cup and majority of those players took part in the match. The coach underrated them and the team paid for it. Nonetheless rivers angels had the better chances earlier on but allowed the Moroccan midfielders too much time on the ball and later settled too much on long balls.

I am still confident that they will qualify from the group. The coach just has to stop getting cute and play his best team.

Exactly. There is no concrete evidence, it's just an intuition from following him closely.

I feel if he regains his performance of last two seasons, he will wait for Belgium to recall.

Belgium are currently very bare in the striker's department. I hope I'm very wrong.

Modified: Another reason, majority of the media in Holland and Belgium call him "the Belgian", rather than "the Nigerian".

”I didn’t have the best of time last season but I am slowly getting back to my best here in Feyenoord. I am not thinking of a call up to the Belgium team although I see all that is written about the possibility. The immediate aim is to get back into the Nigerian team which is possible if I continue scoring goals”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com
