Secretary Blinken’s Travel to Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal

PRESS STATEMENT

NED PRICE, DEPARTMENT SPOKESPERSON

NOVEMBER 11, 2021

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will visit Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal from November 15-20, underscoring the depth and breadth of our relationships with African partners. During the visit, the Secretary will advance U.S.-Africa collaboration on shared global priorities, including ending the COVID-19 pandemic and building back to a more inclusive global economy, combatting the climate crisis, revitalizing our democracies, and advancing peace and security.

Secretary Blinken will begin his trip in Nairobi, where he will meet with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, affirming our strategic partnership with Kenya. The Secretary and representatives of the Kenyan government will discuss our shared interests as members of the UN Security Council, including addressing regional security issues such as Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan. The Secretary will advance U.S.-Kenyan cooperation on ending COVID-19, improving clean energy access, and protecting the environment. The Secretary will underscore U.S. support for a peaceful and inclusive Kenyan election in 2022.

Secretary Blinken will then travel to Abuja, where he will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama and discuss furthering cooperation on global health security, expanding energy access and economic growth, and revitalizing democracy. The Secretary will deliver a speech on U.S.-Africa policy in the capital of Africa’s largest democracy. Additionally, the Secretary will engage with Nigerian entrepreneurs in the digital sector.

The Secretary will conclude his trip in Dakar, where he will meet with President Macky Sall and Foreign Minister Aïssata Tall Sall to reaffirm the close partnership between our two countries. Given President Sall’s upcoming African Union chairmanship, Secretary Blinken looks forward to discussing regional issues and shared values. The Secretary will engage in events that highlight America’s strong commercial relationship with Senegal, amplify the role of female Senegalese entrepreneurs, and showcase the U.S. partnership to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

I remember when George Shultz came to Nigeria in 1986 or '87 and US Marines took over the Murtala Muhammed Airport a few days before his arrival. There were angry articles in the newspapers condemning the government for allowing the marines to take over our airport.

Lots of US secretaries of state have visited since then, the latest being Rex Tillerson in 2018 (Pic 1).

International embarrassment loading. Every notable world leader has shunned Nigeria since 2015 simply because we have a lifeless man as the president.

I don’t think these people are interested in helping us solve the problem they’ll only look at how the USA can benefit from all these trouble and since “one Nigeria provides an unending opportunity for the West to milk our resources for free. It would be in their interest to keep Nigeria as one country

When the US visits serious countries, you would hear specifics, like sale of submarines or jet fighters, military alliance to contain this and that, billions of dollars worth of imports and exports of this and that, and so on.

When they visit subsaharan Africa, you would hear things shared values and cultures, regional cooperation to expand energy access, aid to combat health inadequacies, e.t.c.

This is how you know a baby continent.

Even if America wants to really have a meaningful relationship with African countries, we are just not matured enough to play at that level.

.. a divided Nigeria is not in the interest of America and British. So IPOB should take note.

International politics is about interest and no one want the other to do well and develop more than they were except their ally. Nigeria must continue to be a shit hole for the interest of the west. A develop Nigeria in Africa is a threats among the power block.

Look at china for example, they don't want China to get to the top. But the Chinese have a strong head to get there. And that's why they are over protecting their citizen to keep the west influence out from china. So the people do not turn against the government.

If America was to visit Egypt, you would hear specifics.

Mature level specifics.
Sale of F-16s, sale of M1Abrams, Military aid, stability in the Middle East to promote Israeli interest.

Mature discussion.

The only country in sub Saharan Africa that can really have a meaningful discussion with America is Kenya.

Those guys exports all sorts of agricultural produce to the United State directly under the Agora agreement.

Which is why Trump took Uhuru Kenyatta seriously and created a US- Kenya trade agreement outside the AFCTA.
