BKayy:I like how you analysed the etymology of the word, "oluku/Onuku". Many adjectives in Igbo for attributing to the character of a person or group of people are usually derived from the character that best symbolises a particular people. Sometimes, it could even be a single event. An example is "Okomoko"... Okomoko is a place/people in Etche and I think one other mmoghu (Umon) group. Akunakuna (Akwunakwuna) are found close to Abia (Biase), although they are many of them in Cameroon etc. Even in Abia state, they use to use, "onye Mbieri" when you do a childish act, but that's is going out of fashion. |

SaintBishop:They are Ohaobu Ndoki, many of them claim Abia state and even run for positions in Abia state... 90% of them never agreed to the Akwa-Ibom tag and will never tell you they are from Akwa-Ibom, they will rather say they are from Abia state. There is also an extention from the Arochukwu side too but I think it is just as a result of the expansion of the town. However, there are villages like Ndi Okoro and Nkalu, deep inside Akwa Ibom I think there are more Igbos in Cross River than Akwa-Ibom. |

![]() I hear there are Indigenous Yoruba Communities in Southern Niger State just after Jebba Only Problem is the Yoruba Warlords told them over 150 years ago that if they are not willing to relocate to the Jebba Area then they are on their own because the Niger River was where the Border was at and they should just learn to live in Peace with the Nupe People if they were not moving |

Igbos are there own problem ..every deluded person wants to write history that is pleasant to his ears....!! Igala influence extended upto onitsha and that's a fact...I even read some place here where someone wrote igbos don't consider themselves equals with the igalas....I'm no igala myself but happened to do some deep field work there....all these stories been paraded here are just ridiculous....!! Yes there are intermarriage between the brothers communities but did those in kogi they claimed to be igbo ever refer to themselves as igbos...? You can't forcefully co-opt somebody into your enthinicity when the person thinks otherwise...!! The truth is the truth no matter what anybody say here...all we need in this country is peace and harmony instead of try hard to paint yourself superior to others....!! There nothing the igbo can do that any other tribes in this country can't do...!! What drive the igbo to think that they are smarter than other tribes is quest for wealth and greed to show off and oppress others which is lacking in other tribes cos they don't really care....simple...!! Look at what is happening in their nollywood drama industry and they want everybody to accept it as Nigerians film industry....!! |

BKayy:Just to shed a little more light. 1. Onuku has been explained 2. Onoja nwa Oboli (Onoja the son of Oboli). According to UMU NRI tales, Onoja was the last son of Eri who migrated to Idah. Oboli was Eri's second wife. As the last son, obviously his elder brothers which included Nri-Menri, Agulu and the others observed him in n his formative years when he acted silly, like lastborns do. The expression ONOJA NWA OBOLI, also became a way of saying that someone is silly or demented. Any UMU NRI man above the age of 70 is conversant with that expression. But it is phasing out in preference for the more widely used ONUKU. But at some point, the Igalas started twisting this tale to the extent that they came up with a more militaristic view of ONOJA As I wrote earlier on, Oboli was Eri's second wife, and Nneamaku was Eri's first wife Igboid Bkayy |

Igboid:Actually, in both Igala and Yoruba languages, Oluku originally means 'Friend' but in certain social contexts the friend being referred to means 'friends with benefits' like Girlfriend or Woman-Friend. |

Igboid:More often than not, the old stories (not the recently fabricated Jewish connections) are true. The reasons are many and related; 1) Pre-colonial African Kingdoms experienced unnecessary wars over virtually any matter from succession disputes to slave raiding to boundaries matters. Great Monarchies used military force to subdued their neighbours. 2) These wars caused displacement of people, who naturally will prefer to move to peaceful areas. 3) The areas without strong Kingdoms like the present S/East were spared of these internecine wars in the era between 1600-1900 and was more peaceful, thus it served as the natural safe haven for people fleeing areas of conflicts. This however doesn't diminish the greatness of Ndigbo. |

Igbo historians need to be more open minded to accept historical facts than these feeble attempt to self aggrandisement. Igala and Yorubas are very close and share histories. Oluku is actually a Yoruba word meaning friend in contemporary Yoruba. But in pure Ife Yoruba which interestingly is closer to Igala, it means concubines. Meaning Igalas like Itshekiris speak original Yoruba being spoken in Ile-Ife |
| Re: Maazi Ogbonna Okoro Comes Under Heavy Fire After Kogi Igbo Research And Exposé by Ekealterego: 6:04am On Nov 13, 2021 |
IkpuMmadu:I think the problem might not be unrelated to the fact that in the past, the people who spoke the "Yoruba" language were regarded as the "Akus" (From "Eku" because of their usual way of greeting). This is before the creation of national and state boundaries. Then, Ijebus (Jebous), Egbas, etc were regarded as separate from yorubas but under "Akus". Yoruba was the most numerous of all the "Akus"... However, the lazy missionaries and subsequent colonialist just grouped all of them as "Yoruba". Most groups like the Ijebus and Egbas rebelled against the Yoruba tag seriously for a very long time... I guess now, they are not as hostile towards the tag as in the past. I can imagine why the Okuns will rebel against the Yoruba tag. |
