How Do I Move Above This Level In Life? by Evamann: 11:32am On Nov 13, 2021
Hello to you all, let me make it as brief as possible. I'm a young man in my 30s and currently working where I earn a paltry sum of N38,000/month. The money just like what is happening to me now hardly takes me into half the new month due to so much financial pressure on me from family and personal needs. Last month salary, I had to pay 25k for an outstanding acceptance fee for a younger one who just got admission. My father is late and my mom is seriously struggling that I would have to send money every time for their upkeep. Of the 38k salary of last month, the total amount I personally used wasn't up to 5k while the rest went into this or that for family needs. At the moment, I have pile up of debts to settle with no clear cut of how I'm going to do that as long as things continue this way. Adding all these recurrent situations together, my mind is telling me I don't have a future at all. It is also suggesting evil as a quick way out. I'm supposed to be married to start raising my two or three kids but here I am can't even feed myself just like now. Sincerely, I'm very very tired of this pattern of life. I need practical steps and help to get out of the condition before the evil thoughts prevails. Thank you for your contributions.

Honestly you need to learn a skill. I don't know how feasible it will be for you to get a laptop and consistent data for the next 8 to 12 months. But if you can, get a laptop and start learning web development.

Start with HTML after that move to CSS and after that move to JavaScript. Once comfortable with JavaScript start learning data structures and algorithms and start doing coding challenges and move on to learning a JavaScript framework. Create things that showcase what you have known and start looking for a job. The good thing with tech is that you can find work anywhere as the knowledge is the same globally so getting a job won't be difficult. From there you can continue upskilling but even at that a junior Dev in Nigeria gets at least 100k. I have seen companies paying junior Devs 700 to 800k. A remote job can give you 7 figures in naira when you convert what you earn to naira.

You need to break out from your current job. It's not getting you anywhere.

To do this you need a friend and mentor, consider getting a digital skill. You need one year of total commitment.

You will be glad at the end

Have you considered looking for and adding a parttime job to your schedule? undecided
Even if na working as bricklayer or carpenter on the weekends, doing that for maybe a period of 6 months might help some. undecided

Good day Tensa. I saw your post on web development roadmap in 2021.

You recommended learning Data structures and algorithms after learning JavaScript instead of learning react.
I'm at that juncture now, and I'll like to know reasons why you recommend that part instead of the regular path?

So that your job hunting will be less stressful learn both concurrently and don't drop one to fully focus on another.
