Again....

If most attacks come from lake Chad region....
Why can't the military gather a reasonable number of men and ammunition and try to set up a barricade between lake Chad region and the rest of town/Nigeria. And probably set up offensive from there.

I don't want to even ask why the military don't want to start and sustain an onslaught against these guys. Why must we always wait for them to come and attack and run away. Abi iswap dey sleep for air.

As big as northern Iraq is, Iraqis military and civilian forces moved house to house routing out Isis till they left Iraq.

If its the forces the military need, they should petition national assembly. We have thousands of youths willing to join the army.

Mobilize massive forces and attack lake Chad region.
Is that rocket science.
We may not have the tech, but we have the man power.

let me gist a little bit. My uncle in the year 2006-9 my uncle was a commander of a platoon in lake Chad region. Attacking those region without proper map and surveillance we be very destructive and. That was what some general did left alot of solider dead during 2017-18. Lake Chad region a very dangerous to attack if do not have info about those location . Brono is not small it is large . You cannot cover every location is brono Nigeria is not up to that. My uncle was a member of 3 armour division before retirement. He told me that Nigeria army cannot win lake Chad easy .he told me it will take year of creating operational base all over lake Chad before wining the war. Please do not be angry about my spelling and word composition

Now the question is if the Nigeria army cannot defend Lake Chad region and by extension borno state then we are doom in this country....how the Bleep can they defend Nigeria against external threat by a well packed soldiers using the iswap tactics? I think we need to look inward and begin to make adjustment....!! You would never hear or read army attacked iswap base only the opposite....!!! If borno is too large for the Nigerian army...any not to the Algerian way and get villagers around that region armed with less control but supervised...!! Volunteers make better soldiers...not the paid ones that would always look at his life first and what they are paying him to put his life on the line while some people are busy looting money on an industrial scale elsewhere....!!!

Remember the egypt/Israel war...when the Egyptian army all ran away and Israel entered the seuz canal...? its was the local militia armed with just AK 47 rifles and rpgs who are citizens of the town that drove the almighty Israeli army away....!! They know their town well and all its geography...they where just taking out the Israeli tanks like child war game...!!!

There is a reason no army can easily invade the continental USA and even Switzerland as small as it is....!! The army would end up fighting the whole damn country and fighters and not even fighting for any payment but just glory and defending their home tuff...!!

Nigerian army already released a statement confirming the death of Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu.

Surveillance drones will help in early detection of terrorist and for situational awareness, it will not stop the terrorist from overrunning military bases, only stronger fortifications and base defenses will.
An earlier article posted on this forum on the attack on Askira uba quoting a CJTF personnel asking for help because the base only had 9 guntrucks as against the terrorist 16 guntrucks showed the army is still not fully committed to this war. Troops behind heavy concrete structures, ditches and barriers armed with anti-material riffles, mortars, recoiless riffles and even grenade launchers with mines and claymores to prevent attacks from their flanks and rear can comfortably take out most of the enemies guntrucks. But they just leave troops on open fields with only ditches as defense and very few guntrucks/armored vehicles and expect the troops not to be quickly swarmed from multiple directions.

Recently learnt from Beegeagles that when Gwoza town fell, the battalion protecting it had only one panhard VBL and an Otokar cobra APC to defend the whole town, nothing else apart from the small arms with the troops. And we expect better results.

5 gun trucks against 16 actually.

And maybe rather than having one exit and entry, they should consider completing the ditch and having platforms that can be placed anywhere across the ditch whenever there is need for it.

REDACTED

This is exactly what happened during one of the most devastating defeats NA faced in the 10 year war against ISWAP/JAS. I'm talked about the attack in Metele that claimed the lives of about 130 NA troops.

The base was shabbily built and had only one entry/exit point as illustrated above. When ISWAP overwhelmed the entrance, NA fell back into the base and was trapped. Countless men got entagled in the barbed wire surrounding the base and were gunned down.

NA bases typically lack elevated watch towers and hardened pill boxes with hardened machine gun posts for fire support, no area denial weapons like mines, no HESCO sand barriers and hardly any obstacles. All you typically have is one flimsy trench with dangote cement sand bags here and there.

Unfortunately, we'll keep suffering needless losses and base captures until NA learns and develops its combat engineering skills.

Bro, please modify the post to delete everything I mentioned, we can continue discussing the topic but we shouldn't be the ones pointing out weak points to enemies, I know it's open source knowledge but then some of these enemies aren't that sharp and we will only be helping them by pointing out the weaknesses.

You seem to have forgotten to make reference to the international task force that has been operating in Gulf of Guinea.

We are talking European, American and even Russian naval vessels all coming by together to fight piracy.

Or did your not know

What part of with the help of it's allies did you fail to understand? Do you you have a reading comprehension disorder or something? The international assistance comes primarily in the form of training with diminutive help in actually combating the assailants.

This is not even a matter of top military commanders not caring about the lives of soldiers and not providing them with weapons, common sense should have informed anyone posted to such bases that it is a death trap. Whoever is in charge of such bases could get some thick metal sheets to serve as drawbridges for crossing at any point needed and complete the ditch after.
If the new armored vehicles are sent to the bases as they currently are, don't be shocked if ISWAP starts featuring them in their propaganda videos by next year.

SamuelAnyawu, JOSCOFELIX any other person that knows anyone currently operating in the northeast, please talk to them concerning this.

By now our bases should have about 3-5 soldiers with anti material rifles that can stop technicals at distance abeg.We should be out ranging and out gunning bokoharam/ISWAP.
Sentry work is also very very important. Things like laser trip wires and ground radars should be part of the package of a base.
The North-East is a challenging terrain,I always tell people it is bigger than one imagines. You can fit England(not UK) into Borno,Yobe and Adamawa with space left.
Ground Surveillance is just as important as aerial. You can't have aircraft airborne 24/7.

One of the first to things I noticed about our forward bases is that we are still in this millennium shockingly, "Digging Trenches" that is so outdated. The next you notice we have no "Elevation"

So you see the enemy when he is almost on top of you.

A 50 cal. Rifle will still need elevation to have the advantage.

IF A BASE AIN'T WELL PROTECTED AND DEFENDED THEN IT HAS NO REASON TO EXIST

I just saw the movie "The Outpost" and I wonder, can't we have something like that for defence perimeters. Jumbo jute bags reinforced with webbed iron nets and filled with dirt.

The trick was just too simple that I wonder why we haven't considered it.

I'm usually perplexed when I see somebody saying "so so number of guntrucks and so so number of mraps/tanks to protect base".

Gun nest emplacements in overlapping arcs of fire, mortar pits (even if it were one) and elevated posts are more productive than all these guntrucks talks

As in. Very simple.

The last two picks just leave you BEWILDERED is it INCOMPETENCE or is it lack of knowledge, l really do not know.

For the thermal imaging camera to be really effective you need Elevation, just two metres elevation and you increase greatly your spatial view all round .

Second thing, it's night time and you don't even have a optic sights, laser finder , it's pitch dark you will see nothing.

I guess it's a pic for the cameras.

Over the years NOBODY digs trenches anymore not in this modern day. It's like comparing DOS to WINDOWS 10, they are world's apart. And particularly not for forward operating bases.

The HESCO container system see pics below. Very easy to manufacture locally it's a combination of of of wire mesh around , steel framework ( easily collapsible) and synthetic fibre bag ( very thick Ghana must go bag )

You can place them on top of each other and get up 6 metres of elevation and even higher very easily.

This is what a base should look like., Good field of vision coupled with adequate protection
Attacking such a base would be suicide

Could you provide us with any literature to prove trenches are outdated or you could simply explain why it won't work against ISWAP or BH. When you are fighting a very mobile enemy that relies a lot on vehicles to attack, taking away their mobility will be an important part of your defense planning and ditches work perfectly. There is no way any of the enemy's guntrucks will cross a 0.5m ditch.
In the flatlands that the northeast is, elevation isn't much of an advantage when you can see kilometers away while on level ground. Both sides will see each other several minutes before they can engage each other. Except of course the highlands near the mandara mountains.
Also, as long as you have a clear line of sight and your aim is true, you will hit your targets conveniently.

It's high time we rally support from ECOMOG and AU or even the UN to come assist us with both men and equipment; if we can rally about 10,000 contingents of these regional forces to take on these terrorists head-on it will go a very long way in this war. It's getting obvious that the military is overwhelmed/overstretched coupled with the fact that they're heavily underfunded especially the Nigerian Army. We should tuck in this big brother abi na giant of Africa mantra in our pockets and seek for assistance anyway and anywhere we could this war has already lingered for too long we can't build a nation in a perpetual state of internal-war.

Get 100,000 to come and help and you will still have the same results. It isn't about numbers, it is about commitment and getting the right people to do the job. Force multiplying equipments will go a long way to help though.

When something is taken out of context it becomes a CON.

What qualifies the statement is context and that context is COMPARISON to Equatorial rain forest we have in the South. So by comparison the terrain is seemingly a flat land in reality it is NOT.

And if you are in doubt ask or research Google maps satellite is your friend. Where is the Sambisa forest please and what's the terrain there.

Nuff said.
