Whenbi first saw the news I thought maybe it's a mistake that NA lost a brigadier general.......hmmm

A whole general....

Hmmmmm I don’t think people understand the rank of a Brigadier General. Here in my town Brigade when our military General comes outside his quarters if you see the fierce looking Giant Soldiers guarding him Na die.

Sometimes I’ll be like haba it ain’t necessary for him to move with guards inside the military brigade that is already well secured.

Even when the Brigadier General is joking with some Majors and Lt.Col, these guards are still watching as if even soldiers are not to be trusted.

It’s well shaaa.

It's very clear our military needs help but some idiotic self deluding fellows keep decieving themselves. They think calling for assistance means calling the Military useless, even the US with all its resources would hardly go into any war w/o alliance(s) talkmore of Nigeria that is still struggling to consistently spend $1bn yearly solely for procurements/upgrades. Is it not 2 weeks ago COAS was complaining bitterly about the slashing of army's budget yet we shouldn't seek for help anywhere we could. Even soldiers on ground will tell you they will welcome the idea of getting reinforcement from regional blocs even if it means them holding the fort along border towns.
As for the ewures shouting that we only amplify bad news, so we should keep quiet when soldiers die because they're not human beings with families. In the US death or casualties of soldiers can bring a gov't down but in Nigeria we should hush it all up and amplify BHT casualties as if the lives of those renegades equates to that of soldiers.
Well!!! The cycle continues..

Nigerian military only needs money.
The money required does not even break the bank.
The resources in terms of men required, Nigeria has it in orders of magnitudes more than many African countries combined.

Most people calling for outside help in Nigeria come from "trading" backgrounds. Well, sorry war is not okirika market stuff. If your brain can't process higher stuff then no need for comments.

Let me shove the map of Africa in your face and ask you to choose where the "men" to fight will come from.
Ethiopia is being destroyed as we speak

Southern African countries are bogged down in Mozambique and great Lakes issues.

Chadian Army is less than 30,000 men.

Niger Republic Army is so small, it should be illegal - less than 12,000 men

Cameroon Army is also very small.

All other West African countries are fighting radical Islamic terrorists.

Nigeria has demonstrated the capacity to train 8000 men in six months.

Nigeria will fix its security issues. You guys should face your second hand clothes business.

Trenching machines, military bulldozers, prefab concrete barriers. These three are to be provided by Army engineering Corps.

A few UGVs and 20mm gun emplacements activated remotely.

HESCO barrier is about $500 for 15ft if you add cost of sand and equipment hired to handle sand.

Using bulldozers to heap up sand into high dunes and digging trenches using army engineers equipment achieves better at a fraction of cost.

Civil war was a conventional war

The Nigerian Civil War, was largely a conventional war but in many cases and different theatres of the war, the rebel Biafran Army employed guerilla tactics to slow down Federal Army advance.
In Owerri, Port-harcourt, Onitsha and Enugu. Guerilla tactics were employed. I know this because I studied pattern of attack by the Biafran S brigade which was under the Command of Biafran, Colonel - Timothy Onuwatuegwu and also the Commandos, under Colonel Rolf Steiner and Taffy Williams.

Guerilla attacks were launched at Enugu in order to disrupt Mig 15 and Mig 17 operating from the Enugu Airport. Guerrilla attacks were launched in the Calabar sector too to disrupt Nigerian Army supply lines. In the long war of attrition in the Abagana/Onitsha Sector, Biafran rebel troops under Colonel Achuzie employed the most "unorthodox" forms of battle against the Federal Army.
There are a lot more.

We should keep quiet and not shout so that gov't will see the need to fund the military as it should putting in mind that we are literally the mouth piece of these soldiers as they can't speak for themselves.
Well!!! The cycle continues..

If truly our troops need help, i do think we might require an American base or British base, in fact Chinese base. Then we ruin and become another Afghanistan.

I do remember Buhari telling AFRICOM to bring a base in Nigeria/West Africa. Maybe he's already buying this idea.

In my honest opinion, the Nigerian armed forces requires TOTAL reorganisation. I do watch budget defenses by different MDAs in the National Assembly. Those lawmakers don't really know what's happening except for a few.
Nigeria does not need foreign intervention. We all know the solution to our problems. Is not like we've tried all local solutions and failed. It's that, we aren't even trying to solve the issue. The Nigerian problem is interwoven between all sectors. A failure of a sector, affects the other.

The Nigerian Armed forces need more funding. 10 billion dollars a year would change the course of this war because each element of the military would be made better. We need to Reorganize our Paramilitary. Many civil defence peeps don't know their purpose.

The simplicity of HESCO is the key.
The logistic needs are small: No Trench digging, no transport of raw materials or prefab concrete barriers needed. You just fill the HESCO bags with local soil and build a fortification that can even withstand explosives like RPGs. A clear advantage in every regards.

You see. This is exactly what I meant when I said the Nigerian problem is interwoven.

Lack of education and illiteracy causes insurgency and terrorism.
We deploy troops to secure the country. Troops are Ill-equipped because of corruption. Corruption thrives because of weak laws and poor judicial system. We've poor judges and judiciary because of law standards of living and poor training and ethics. We've poor standards of living because of Bad economy and detrimental policies.

That's how the Nigerian problem is. It's is in a deep rot. In a cycle.

It is other African countries that will save the lives of our soldiers.
220m Nigerians and another African country of 10m people would have to send 2000 men to help you fight Boko Haram of less than 10,000 highly mobile fighters.

Please drop your phone or laptop and think.

It is because young people think like this in Nigeria that I will never vote anyone below 45 years of age ağain for a long time.

How long are we gonna wait or make politicians see the need to fund the military especially the Army? Exploring other options shouldn't be out of the table, it's a matter of national security. It is useless recruiting/training thousands into the military w/o plan to properly cater for their welfare and equipments. The edge Israel have over Arab nations is nothing but cutting edge technology and equipments not really numbers though if we have both it would be excellent.
I won't be surprised if we later get to hear that the Brig.Gen that was KIA was going for that reinforcement in a convoy of Toyota Hilux.

If a Brigadier General is in active front line duty he is likely to be a casualty as much as any regular Joe. This is why this rank is a General officer and is higher in the chain.

Bullets don't know rank. It won't miss because you're a "whole general".

Examples;
Maj Gen Harold Greene KIA in the Afghan war

Col. William Wood

Sir, you're an old member in this thread. Personally, I respect your views on issues. You and I know that hundreds of ideas had been dropped on this thread by different members over the years on how best we can solve the Nigerian insecurity issue. I remember we lost a Colonel last year in an ambush. He was in a guntruck.
Nigeria as it is today is not serious to tackle this issues. The politicians are jokers. No amount of foreign troops can stabilize this country for us, the way we want. It is best we come together to solve this problem.
Some politicians know the right thing to do,others are totally clueless. Recently, President Buhari was in Paris seeking for investors. Some North West governors were with him grin. Is it your bandits infested communities you would bring investors to
That says it all. We aren't ready to solve this problem. Most of these issues are caused by government negligence and sponsors in the government itself. The terrorism situation in Nigeria has never been religious. It is politically influenced. Everything is politics.

Can just set aside emotional takes and analyse situations with common sense.

And if you have no knowledge about warfare leave it for those that know instead of wasting pages for jargons.

I no know where Una learn say bullet or IEDs dey discriminate in an ambush based on ranks that a brigadier leading a reinforcement cannot be killed.
