Snakes are fascinating creatures that play an extremely important role in balancing nature throughout the world.

These reptiles have absolutely amazing characteristics despite having no legs, eyelids or external ears.

To distinguish between certain species of snakes, many herpetologists characterize serpents by color, size, length and venom.

Prepare to be amazed with a list of ten of the longest snakes in the world as I start from number 10! The rankings below are determined exclusively by length.

10. OLIVE PYTHON

The Olive Python is one of the largest snakes in Australia measuring just over 4 meters (13 feet) in length!

They received their name due to their olive green coloration.

These snakes are nonvenomous constrictors that consume small mammals, birds and other reptiles.

9. BLACK MAMBA

The Black Mamba is the largest venomous snake found in Africa. One of the longest was recorded at 4.3 meters (14.11 feet)!

These snakes are not only one of the longest but are also one of the fastest and most aggressive snakes in the world.

These snakes have been known to eat small mammals, bats and other birds such as feeder chicks.

8. BOA CONSTRICTOR

Boa Constrictors are popular amongst reptile enthusiasts because of their beautiful coloration and they are not known to be particularly dangerous to humans.

Boa Constrictors tend to prey on mice, rats, lizards, bats and more.

7. KING COBRA

King Cobras are the world’s longest venomous snakes with maximum lengths measuring up to a little over 5.7 meters (18.7 feet)!

This fearsome snake predominantly preys on other snakes and is found in India and Southeast Asia.

If this serpent thinks you are a threat it will rear up its body, display it's hood and hiss loudly.

6. BURMESE PYTHON

The Burmese Python is one of two subspecies of python molurus:

Burmese python (Python molurus bivittatus)
Indian rock python (Python molurus molurus)

The Burmese python is a nonvenomous constrictor that can be found in South-East Asia and is very popular among snake enthusiasts.

These snakes have been known to eat birds, rodents and other small animals such as rabbits.

5. AFRICAN ROCK PYTHON

There are two subspecies of African Rock Pythons:

Northern African rock python (Python sebae sebae)

Southern African rock python (Python sebae natalensis)

The African Rock Python is one of the largest snakes found in Africa. One African rock python was claimed to have been 7 meters (23 feet) and was found with a 1.5 meter (4.9 ft.) Nile crocodile in its stomach!

4. GREEN ANACONDA

The Green Anaconda is one of the heaviest and longest snakes in the world reaching up to 7 meters (23 feet) in length and 250 kgs (250 - 550 lbs.) in weight!

Legend has it that anacondas are man-eaters due to their size but there is little evidence that supports this.

They are primarily aquatic and eat a wide variety of food items including fish, birds, mammals and other reptiles.

3. AMETHYSTINE PYTHON

The Amethystine Python also called the scrub python can be found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Australia.

There are reports of these snakes exceeding 8.5 meters (28 feet) in length! This is another popular snake among reptile enthusiasts worldwide due to its coloration and size.

They generally eat birds, bats, rodents and other small mammals.

2. RETICULATED PYTHON

The Reticulated Python is known to be the world’s longest snake and has been recorded to reach over 10 meters (32 feet)!

These nonvenomous snakes are found in Southeast Asia.

Their typical diet consists of mammals and occasionally birds.

1. TITANOBOA

The Titanoboa was the longest snake that ever lived and fossils of the massive snake were found in Columbia.

Researchers estimate that the titanoboa measured 12-15 meters (39-49 feet) in length and weighed 1000-1140 kgs (2200-2500 lbs.)!
