Yes you can but that lagoon ain't hygienic at all. The other day I was going to leventis, you need to see the way those homeless people who live on the pillars were having a shìt. Even fishermen do stop for a shìt while in action too. Alot of industrial waste from companies on the island are flushed into that lagoon too. If your body no strong, you'll fall terribly sick. |

Mtcheew. As an Ilaje boy, born and brought up in Ilaje Bariga, I don swim the 3rd mainland bridge water since I was a toddler. In company of other people, we swim from Ilaje shore to the bridge and back in swimming contest. In fact, beyond the bridge, we used to collect periwinkle from under the water when I was a teenager. 2 Likes 1 Share |

3MB actually follows a route which is like the shallowest part of the lagoon that in is near land. This is because the deeper the water, the higher the construction costs so it only makes sense the water isn't too deep. However during the dry season the lagoon loses depth and you can actually see fishermen standing in the water especially between Adekunle and Unilag and just before Oworo. As per visibility ,normal people will not see jack but professional murky water divers can even find a watch or phone if they know where it fell. That said, that water is disgusting because somewhere around Iddo, all the poop trucks in Lagos dislodge. I heard that is what the fish eat, poop and dead human beings. 4 Likes |

It was divers who went down to mark the foundation of the pillars of the bridge during construction. Good divers can go into the water and comeout anyday. 1 Like |

But on a serious note, why is it that Nigerian water bodies are brownish and very dirty while the ones in abroad are dazzling blue and clean. Can someone tell me why |

nairavsdollars:Hi, I don't know if your question has been answered satisfactory because the first page of your thread is filled with Nairalanders usual crazes. To your question: The water can be dive, reasons the bridge could be erected in the first place. Visibility could be challenging in terms of seeing far away to evade dangerous water creatures, but it's never a problem to divers. There are special gears meant for such water bodies, not only for visibilities, but also to protect divers against pollution. The fear of divers isn't visibility, unless it's shark infested water... The greatest fear and threat to all divers is depth, due to pressures. At some certain depths, even modern equipment will suffer damages. The water can be dive. 6 Likes |

flam5:Divers done just dive into any water without proper preparation and surveys. There are techs that detect sharks, these techs are deployed under water to scan the areas divers will be diving, from this they know the green and red zones. If for any reason tech falls, sharks aren't aggressive creatures. As long as you're not bleeding or trying to attack them. 3 Likes |

hisexcellency34 Third Mainland Bridge water is not deep. I see fishermen stand inside Third mainland bridge water is deep o. Those people you see are Ijaws. They could stay in the water for long without their legs reaching the ground. Many times Molues, the long buses widely used in Lagos then and some other vehicles have missed their way into the water. You won't even see part of them outside. |
