He should consider the family and let go of the building, I think the family acknowledge his efforts that is why they are offering their s cond daughter. Before you criticize me, remember that the family has the right to prevent him from demolishing their house provided there was no signed agreement that he should build house for them in exchange for their daughter neither is there evidence that the land was sold to him to build on. So in the court of law, the family can accept that the guy assist them but didn't build the house for them.
