I told you it is better to automatically generate just one number that contains the information in BVN, Voters and Residential. Identity theft is an issue even when we are eating out. Business owners pay well because that’s what makes a difference and prevents staff from going criminal

Actually, I think the linking of NIN to the sim card isn't just about stopping crimes directly but about making sure that the identites and biometrics of as many Nigerians as possible is being captured and added to a national database. Compulsory linking of NIN to Sim cards is one of the ways to compel Nigerians to have NIN since almost everyone has a phone and sim card. Another way was through making it compulsory for every JAMBITE and WAEC student to provide NIN before they can be enrolled of the exams. Since almost everyone must use some card or write WAEC and JAMB that's a way of making sure everyone has NIN. BVN wasn't enough because not everyone has a bank account. Same with VIN cos not everyone has a vehicle. But NIN emcompasses all.
So no matter how some Nigerians decide to complain and be stubborn and refuse to link their NIN to their sim cards, the government will come up with another way to make sure they get NIN. Maybe soon, you'll need NIN to get a get a government job and even some private jobs too. Or you'll need NIN before you can register for any government scholarship programs and loans etc..
A time will come when it will be almost impossible to do anything in Nigeria without NIN and then everyone will have to have a NIN to be, and live as a Nigerian.
I remember during that Uwa case, somebody here on Nairaland was insulting the government for not having a database for the fingerprints of the people that raped Uwa even after using a fire extinguisher (which was definitely going to have their fingerprint on it) to bash her head. This same person is condemning the NIN on Nairaland. How stupid can anyone be? Also when the Trump adminisration resticted Nigeria along with some other countries from entering into the US, one of the reason he gave was that, “the established identity-management and information sharing criteria assessed by performance metrics.. wasn't met". Nigerians complained and condemned Nigeria for not having a database. Now these same Nigerians are condemning NIN. How can we be condemning both the problem and the solution to the problem...
