The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has kicked against plans by the Federal Government to pay the sum of N5,000 to the ‘poorest of the poor’ in the country to cushion the effect of the proposed subsidy removal next year.

In a statement by the PFN President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, nothing good will come out of the scheme as it will be another cesspool of corruption where government officials will only use to enrich themselves.

The PFN added that removing fuel subsidy would not only worsen the suffering of majority of Nigerians, but an increase in fuel price which will come with the subsidy removal, will trigger tension and crises in the country.

Bishop Oke added that such a move could paralyze the nation’s economy if not handled with utmost care.

“The planned introduction of N5,000 for 40 million poor Nigerians is to create a cesspool of corruption,” the PFN said.

“How do you define the poor? They, mostly, don’t use telephones. They, mostly, don’t have bank accounts. How will the money get to them?

“The cost of transportation for human and goods across the country will skyrocket and other things connected which will have a spiral effect on general living standard of the populace; the suffering will be multi-dimensional.

“Please, let all stakeholders be sensitive to this avoidable path and do the needful.”

“Without begging the issue, there should be well defined palliative measures in place that can cushion the effect of the hardship being experienced by Nigerians, especially the commoners.

“One is not talking about political palliatives that never last. We’ve seen enough of such.

Oke added that though the PFN would always support policies that would enhance good governance, the government should put in place tangible palliative measures that could ameliorate the hardship being experienced.

The local government is in a better position to take care of this issue, not the federal government. They should restructure this damn country.

I sometimes sit and wonder who comes up with such very silly ideas ? To think Nigeria as a nation has some of the brightest minds the world has ever seen, look at the very silly policies been churned out everyday.
This is just a plan to loot our public fund and collective wealth. Just palliative that was asked to be shared couldn't go anywhere, so how do they hope to identify the "poorest of the poor" ?
Moreover dishing out money just like that would definitely lead to inflation. 2023 is around the corner and them politicians are seeking means to stake money for campaigns and all.

If president Buhari did not remove subsidy, it means he fail totally. So to prove he makes progress he has to remove it.

Remember when he is coming as president, he said 'there is nothing like subsidy.

And to also add, he has paid more money for subsidy than any other Presidents but I will appeal to him not to remove subsidy at this time and they should not transfer #5,000 to any person.

I supported PFN on these totally.

God bless Nigeria,

This is a misleading headline though. A terrible attempt to stir the masses against PFN or Bishop Oke. If you do a survey, most Nigerians for want of food, will sell their future or the hope for their future.

The poorest communities will take #5000 each than have the roads into their slums tarred, the poorest communities will take #5000 each in exchange for losing the opportunity of a school to another community.

That is why the elites sustains poverty, that way they can appeal to people’s hunger and use a plate of food to buy their votes and conscience.

At some points during the endsars protest, it was the poorest amongst us that were used to attack protesters in Abuja, this is the advantage of having poor people and illiterate in the lots; it’s the first rule in the northern elites rise to power manual, an idea, which is incredibly and increasingly adopted across the nation. (Case study - The creation of Mc Oluomo by Tinubu, and how most young people will choose to be an Mc Oluomo to being a professor).

The headline here could have been ‘Bishop Oke says #5000 is insufficient to address an individual basic need’ his address is on the sufficiency of the amount proposed as he is not antagonistic towards cushioning the troubles of the least amongst us. Don’t think persuasive headlines are not purposive or the phrasing are harmless or useless in stirring sentiments towards the appropriate direction.

That said,

#5000 is less than the daily lunch allowance for middle level staff in some of our government parastatals, and yet the clueless government expects a man and his household to thrive on this in a month.

Creating a society where things work will alleviate poverty. In a society where things work, there will be incentives for people to do businesses and so there will be more jobs, subsidized buses and trains available, there is electricity to power the hot-plate, good, motorable and accessible roads would reduce the cost of transit.

But we know too, you don’t have to remove fuel subsidy in order to get the above done. The administration is just clueless but clueless is fine, a Tinubu administration which increasingly is becoming inevitable will likely be for the elites (check his visits to the northern elites) and though they all shout how great an administrator he is, I certainly do know, Tinubu would not even offer any cushion as to such decision and would likely set the dogs on his critics…

…he would take money from the poorest or they will lose their hands, this is the way to encourage hard-work and eliminate poverty.

APC just want to be buried finally if she dare remove Fuel Subsidy now. The inflation of fuel Subsidy removal might reached 500% to 100%. END SARS demonstration might be a Child's play compared to what people will do if Subsidy is removed. No matter how good the removal is, public awareness should be preached for a long time before taking Action.

There is nothing like fuel subsidy. It's only fuel increase and the #5,000 is so that they can keep feeding fat.

This same Buhari said there's nothing like subsidy, he even went on protest against fuel subsidy removal when Jonathan wanted to do it.

I laugh when I see this government come up with such useless policies.
Nigerians go hear am, we'll continue suffering since we've sworn not to have sense. Those of you gearing up to vote Tinubu who brought this man into power, na una go suffer pass. Though Osibanjo dey fuckup, but I'll gladly vote him than any Tinubu
