I'm a Pipe and Structural welder
I'm certified on SMAW, C02 FCAW, MIG welding from 1G to 6GR... The problem in Nigeria is the local contractors, how can you say you'll pay me 25k per day, when in Delevoped countries welders earned that much per joint.

But as work no dey... You just have to go along

See see finish

It is not about see finish but the truth. A road side welder or iron bender cannot tell you the composition of an E7018 welding rod but they can use it in whatever they do. They don't know what porosity is or other weld defects. They don't know that E7018 welding rods needs to be baked to a temperature of not below 250°f. Moreover, most if not all roadside welders don't know any other welding processes beside SMAW. I stand to be corrected on that.

I would advice you to shine your beacon on Non-destructive testing or being a welding inspector. Your knowledge of materials would be better put to use there and if you can acquire the right tickets, you would go far. You have basic knowledge of welding and that, combined with your knowledge of metallurgy would really help you. I do basically all types of welding but would pick inspection over welding any day. There's a career path for you too, you could move into more indepth quality control and maybe one day, find yourself in a Quality Assurance role.

Graphite carbon raiser has many advantages and important functions in casting. It is a good inoculant and spheroidizing agent, and its price is more advantageous than other smelting materials. Therefore, it is more favored by various casting manufacturers.

Stop capping shit dude
I would have preferred to go on explaining shit with your kind but dude it's not worth it cos I've met alot of you with this shitty mindset and I've come to realize that this is just a way to raise your self esteem since you never felt proud of the trade name.

There is no need to be bitter about anything. If you have a contrary opinion let us know why you think there is no difference between a certified welder and a roadside iron bender.

Bitter huh? I think you're mistaken dude
With my little experience in this trade dude I realized no matter where you find yourself one has to respect others expertise by not looking down or talking shit about their job.
Over the years I've worked with diff industrial welders and what I've realized is that our skills and expertise are way different.
Same way a normal welder becomes helpless when exposed to industrial jobs same way an industrial welder becomes after being told to work on home fabrication jobs especially custom welding projects.
You talked about iron workers, I think you need to get yourself educated about that trade cos it's a different trade entirely.
Even after been opportuned to work in many industrial welding companies at my teenage years, I felt it ain't my way, so I had to find my way back to what I've been doing before, cos I wasn't allowed to be creative as I want to.
So dude welders of different skills aside from industrial welders are no way inferior to them, we're all with different skills and each and everyone ought to be respected.

Wow, Great thread here.

Resigned from the bank in 2019, Opted for fitting and smaw welding training. Rounded off in 2020. Currently employed because of my welding skills in a reputable company.

Welding is not just a skill, i see us as artists with strokes of fire and liquid metal.

Please can you share the training school you went to, or do you know reputable ones in Lagos?

CAREER - WELDER & PIPER FITTERS JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA

Hi All,
My name is Ari, and I live in Edmonton, Alberta.

There is currently a labor shortage in Canada (especially in the Province of Alberta). The Province of Alberta is Canada's center excellence for oil and gas business/services. In comparison, it is to Canada what Port Harcourt (in Rivers State) is to Nigeria.

Therefore, many oil and gas companies and pipeline construction companies are in need of experienced welders and pipe fitters whom they wish to sponsor for a job opportunity and to move to Canada to start a career, so far you meet the criteria below.

Criteria:
Are you an experienced welder or pipe fitter?
Do you have evidence to show you have worked in a welding or pipefitting job?
Do you have a clean employment record with no criminal record?
Do you wish to pursue that opportunity?

Let's connect.
