Most skills are expected to be gained on job.

I am looking for opinions on, what is considered a competitive fair monthly salary?

What jr. software developer offers are you seeing out there?

If it's a Nigerian company anything from 200k is okay. If it's foreign anything from 600k is okay.

A lot o. Not every foreign company is American na. You don't expect a company in Mexico or Vietnam to pay you 20 USD per hour as a junior Dev but an American company can but it's not easy getting an American remote job compared to Vietnam or Mexico or others.

Na wa o! I don't look anywhere else. And you are absolutely right that US remote options are not very easy to get. America don spoil me sha. Minimum I'd expect for entry-level dev would be a million naira for someone barely competent and this is using American standards.

Yeah America is the best but it's not easy to target for people who just finished six months of Udemy courses. Better to look elsewhere and come back to the USA when you are mid level or senior.

Thanks for the reality check. I most definitely needed it to appreciate what I've got. What's your take on Data Analytics as a sub-specialty of Data Science? I enjoy sourcing for large data sets in a variety of fields, and using Microsoft Excel to manipulate the data to see what insights can be gleaned.

Honestly I really don't rate any data science fields. Even data analysis that is said to have a lot of jobs doesn't have any. I have advised some people to pick it up and after a couple of months of intense learning they are still struggling to get jobs. My very close friend got into debt struggling to learn data science and no job. It's not a field I will advise anyone to go into based on the experiences of people in the field around me but it's subjective. There's still a lot of successful data analyst and data scientists. I just haven't personally met any.

But really apart from work how can one make money with data science. With web development you can sell themes, you can build and sell solutions same as mobile development. What can one do to make money with pure data science skills.

Lol! Tensa you really don't know Data Science be that. And the production and sale of data products. You can sell Dashboard designs. Or develop custom excel or BI products. You can be a data consultant as well. The thing is a lot of people rush into data science for money. There's one guy that Channels TV always invites when they want a data cruncher. That guy no dey work for anybody. And he is earning real fat money.

If you are generally inquisitive and want to understand the what and whys then Data Science especially Data Analytics is good. Census is coming up next year. Do you know the amount of Data Consultants that are already in that space? Both the ones working to guide NPC to an expected outcome and the ones working on forecasting various population metrics?

Obviously not working for a Nigerian employer! I have long forgotten about those idiots. I have a former colleague who now works at Tekxperts. Recommended him for a US remote opening. And he is on the verge of being hired. Should be taking 10 times what he currently earns, doing the same job that he currently does. F*ck Nigerian employers

It depend on how much of value you can give into project. In other words how productive a project can become when you jump in.
secondly your background and future potential.
Those languages up there are nothing compared to ability to create value.

for a country like Naija
junior dev: 100k - 150k
Mid-level: 150k - 300k
senior-level: 400k - Beyond.

Those figure up there are nothing compared to the amount of productivity and your potential for solutions to problems you can bring on. you can be so productive that a month salary can be as high as 800k per month.
