The government has no right to shut down someones business just like that. They can even sue the Lagos state government if you don't know.

Can't you people read? They said the online portal was opened after a meeting with the ministry of education, so it means they got the go ahead to open the online classes.

Oga reading is not hard, the key is to understand what you have read. Now let me break it down for you:

1.
The management of Dowen College, Lagos, has announced the commencement of online academic session despite Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s order to shut down all activities in the school.

If the government has ordered a shutdown of all activities, why would the same government turn around to sanction some of those activities like online classes?

2. The school's letter to parents
“We wish to inform you that further to our meeting at the Ministry of Education the school will be shutting down all physical activities till further notice. All learning will move online in the interest of safety and transparency,” the management said in the mail, a screenshot of which was seen on Twitter.
Did the government say they were shutting down only physical activities? No. They said all activities. Did the school say that they met with the ministry of education after the shutdown? No. They only seemed to imply so hoping most people will not notice the deception at play here. Let them show the letter from the government granting them permission to go online if they are actually telling the truth.

Like I said before, understanding is key

Re: Sylvester Oromoni: Dowen College Resumes Online Classes After Shutdown by Prenonjebose: 6:52am On Dec 05, 2021
If the school had a meeting with Ministry of Education officials, then the reasons for any approval to have online school should have been made known by the commissioner of education, especially if it's for the conduct of exams only. Now, they would be making matters worse by this secret action. Any action by the management of the school cannot escape public scrutiny. The commissioner needs to explain this action.

In the first page of this thread, only you have contrary opinion, for others, it's pull it down.

This is mind of average Nigerians, and that's why we are merry-go-round a point for years without headway.

It was fellow students who bullied and not sch management , yet hopeless people want school to go down at all cost.

If the sch go down, it would not only affect the owner negatively but, the workers, other students, even government.

Foolish and hopeless people on the first page refuse to see other factors but for the sch to go down.

The issue is that it could have been any of them. Now the question is do dead people finished exams in the grave? Suspending the exams for a month or two is not too much sacrifice for justice

When children are sent to school, are they under their own custody or d custody of d school?

If the child dies while in d custody of d school, do u hold d child responsible for dying or u hold the school responsible?

Why should the school not go down? If the school deems it fit to cover up and child's death and give covering for those who were responsible, why should the school not go down?

How will the school going down affect govt, the students and it's workers?

Bro, take this to the bank... No school can operate in Lagos both on-line or offline without the ministry's approval.

The shutdown is to forestall any other incident that can happen. Na wetin dey affect Nigeria be this. We believe once it's not you then life goes on. Every sensible parents in dowen will know their ward can be next if proper investigation and cleansing is not done in that school, that's why the shutdown is necessary. If the claims of cultism is 100% true it means there still remains some cultists in that school and as such the physical and psychological well-being of every student is under threat.

You’re missing the point.
The shutdown is to enable further investigations with having school physical activities interfering or tempering with evidence.
In as mush as we don’t have the full details of the shutdown, we can’t say the school has violated it in anyway.
My take- as long as the govt has not totally revoke the license of the school, going online to complete its session is completely reasonable and understandable!

This is a simple case I don’t know why the media is sensationalizing it, I hope we don’t because of our actions stop the Bereaved family from getting the justice they deserve.

If I were the school, first head of the school must chop cane (fired and handed to police)
I didn’t say owner o, owner fit no even know Wetin dey xup.
The bereaved family should open a go fund me to get the best homicide lawyers in this country and sue anyone involved!
Let’s be guided!

I agree that the children should be allowed to seat their termly exams after putting in all the effort so far. But Dowen seems to be lackadaisical in their communication I swear. They could have communicated this online move differently. Funny thing is that their online infrastructure is so damned lean. A small DDOS will take them out completely

How insensitive can one be, the onwer and principal of that school need to be arrested. C'mon in the midst of all the backlash your school is getting concerning what happened there in your premises that claimed the life you meant to nurture, you still have guts, chai I'm seriously angry walahi.

It was the school that was shut down, not just the building. So if they are resuming with online classes it's a direct violation of the shut down order.
abi oh. If this news is actually true, let's see what the Lagos state government will do. A direct violation of the government's order should not be left unchecked, and it proves the school believe they're smarter than the government.

Truth is no matter how painful the death, life will not stop for everyone because you died. Other students will still have to write their exams even if they’re going to switch schools next term.

But this Dowen college sha, be like ona wan make dem fish out ona proprietor burn am before ona go get sense! angry

The LASG needs to handle this with care, all it took was one death to birth the Arab Spring.

Nigeria right now is one huge cauldron bubbling slowly to a boiling point. People dey vex! angry

Please someone should kindly correct me if I'm wrong but why should the school be shut down indefinitely? I understand that it's a noble thing to suspend activities for a few days to mourn the loss of a young student but why indefinitely?

So I own a property, say a mall, and a customer kills another customer. How am I liable for that crime? I think the best I can do is comply with investigations and provide all the help I can so that the culprits get apprehended. Beyond that, my business shouldn't be affected.

Am I wrong?

When you tell lies and try to evade justice for victim in order to save your business then you might loose your business.

So others will learn life is important and can't be bought with money

Most of those schools in lekki are established for paparazzi not education. All these antisocial vices will never happen when there are supervisors moving round and checking on students.

If I recall correctly, the boy said he was threatened to claim that he got injured while playing football. If that's the case, it's likely that's what he told the management.

No right thinking authority would cover up such crime at the risk of losing their business. I believe the school was acting on the wrong information they got. This might be construed as negligence, though, as the injuries are too severe to be football-related. Again, I'm just speculating.

I still dunno if I agree with the indefinite shut down but one thing we can both agree on is that justice must prevail.
