Hmm.....That old piece of junk isn't airtight. Unless there is some kind of harmful chemical or toxin in that car, it's impossible for the kids to die due to lack of oxygen...d car battery is likely flat, so it can't even auto lock.... something is fishy here

What is wrong with leaving vehicle unlocked in my compound? In my own house kwa?

I never said you can not leave your vehicle unlocked in your compound. Even a dumb man knows that it's risky leaving an ABANDONED vehicle UNLOCKED in your compound, especially where kids are.
Please if you can not lock, roll down the windows a little bit .

Part of the story said, "The gate of the compound hardly is opened". Now, how did 8 children gain entrance into the compound?
2. When they entered the compound, didnt Saliat know they were playing inside the car?
3. An 8yrs or 9yrs old child can open a locked car, so, many questions need 2 be answered.
4. We can not out rule diabolical effect 4rm this story.

maybe the parent of 9years child there don't have a car, reason he/she don't know how to open it. Its good always teach your kids some things, even some thing you think its not necessary for their safety and others

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique that's useful in many emergencies, such as a heart attack or near drowning, in which someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. The American Heart Association recommends starting CPR with hard and fast chest compressions. This hands-only CPR recommendation applies to both untrained bystanders and first responders.

If you're afraid to do CPR or unsure how to perform CPR correctly, know that it's always better to try than to do nothing at all. The difference between doing something and doing nothing could be someone's life.

Here's advice from the American Heart Association:

Untrained. If you're not trained in CPR or worried about giving rescue breaths, then provide hands-only CPR. That means uninterrupted chest compressions of 100 to 120 a minute until paramedics arrive (described in more detail below). You don't need to try rescue breathing.
Trained and ready to go. If you're well-trained and confident in your ability, check to see if there is a pulse and breathing. If there is no pulse or breathing within 10 seconds, begin chest compressions. Start CPR with 30 chest compressions before giving two rescue breaths.
Trained but rusty. If you've previously received CPR training but you're not confident in your abilities, then just do chest compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 a minute (details described below).
The above advice applies to situations in which adults, children and infants need CPR, but not newborns (infants up to 4 weeks old).

CPR can keep oxygen-rich blood flowing to the brain and other organs until emergency medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm. When the heart stops, your body no longer gets oxygen-rich blood. The lack of oxygen-rich blood can cause brain damage in only a few minutes.

If you are untrained and have immediate access to a phone, call 911 or your local emergency number before beginning CPR. The dispatcher can instruct you in the proper procedures until help arrives. To learn CPR properly, take an accredited first-aid training course, including CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Before you begin
Before starting CPR, check:

Is the environment safe for the person?
Is the person conscious or unconscious?
If the person appears unconscious, tap or shake his or her shoulder and ask loudly, "Are you OK?"
If the person doesn't respond and you're with another person who can help, have one person call 911 or the local emergency number and get the AED, if one is available. Have the other person begin CPR.
If you are alone and have immediate access to a telephone, call 911 or your local emergency number before beginning CPR. Get the AED if one is available.
As soon as an AED is available, deliver one shock if instructed by the device, then begin CPR.

We haven't goten over Sylvester, now this?

Why should an abandoned vehicle be left unlocked in a compound where kids are? And why are the irate youths destroying the building and attacking passers by including the owner of the house? Or do they think it's her joy that the children including her grandchild died under such circumstance?

More reason why I don't let my kids out of my sight when playing despite the fact that we live alone. Pls ride your bicycle inside the house if I'm not outside with you.

Such sad news this December. Odindin 8 children!! May we not cry over our kids.
I see nothing wrong in the vehicle being left unlocked. Please.

Stop being irrationally sentimental, where else should she have parked her car if not on her own property?

What happened was unfortunate, however you definitely cannot blame the car owner, unless there is evidence that she was involved in locking the children in the car
Finally someone with a thinking brain. I shudder at how the average Nigerian reasons. Imagine questioning where and how a car owner should park his car. Haba

Afonja miscreants are mostly senseless.

8 children die mysteriously and the first thing the useless mob thinks of is to lynch the “innocent” owner of the car.

Like if the suspect is killed instantly how are we going to get to the bottom of this case?

Daft bastards everywhere!
Same way people are harassing the parents of the boys that are suspected to have bullied a child to death in Dowen....

The car battery is flat, that function isn't available, even it can somehow be triggered manually, only the triggered door will be locked, not All the doors. And it's just soo wierd that 8 kids some as old as 9 will just go like that...kids are stubborn, lock one as old as 6 in a room & they will bang door till u get tired of the noise

Nigerians and the poverty loaded mentality. Why do they want to add to the woman's sorrow when she has already lost alot.

So if they burnt her house, destroy her car and probably beaten her to death, how does that help in bring back the dead. Children played into the wrong place and eventually got stuck. When they rescued some, rather than rush to hospital, they were more worried about the lady they want to destroy than the children they wanted to safe.

This country ehn

You also read that her grand daughter was involved. Obviously, that should tell how they might have gained access.

It's possible she might not be aware because she wasn't outside. Wetin you no know, you no know be that.

Yes, they should be able to but the bigger question is, what were they doing in the first instance. I have seen even babies trying to steer a car when you keep them in the front driver seat. Am sure the grand daughter only wanted to show off her mom's car or grandma's car not knowing the danger that lies ahead.

There is nothing diabolical about it. Children have a very curious mind are willing to try anything to learn. With children, anything is possible

So a nine year old child can’t think that he is running out on oxygen.
Some cars have central lock system where you can only open the door from the driver's side when you're inside. I'm sure the 9 yr old child didn't know about that & was probably too weak to smash the windows. embarassed

Sadly, at what point did he get so weak that he couldn’t hit the window to call for attention.

Black kids aren’t taught anything, only to go to school and become better than their neighbors kids.

Education is evil.

The education we need is bringing out the best of a human.

Very possible, in my car, golf Gti, only the driver side controls all the locks and its just a button, there is no lock n unlock on the 3 other doors. Once you lock yourself inside, and no keys to Insert in ignition, just break the glasses.... Unless u are trapped.
