Hello cartalk family, I am planning a journey to the east this month.

Haven't chosen the date yet as i'm still observing security trends and first-hand experiences from people who have embarked on similar journey this month of December.

Ordinarily, I would have flown but e get as e be....


Although sometime ago (August/September) I completed similar trip to and fro without any hassle, but this time I am travelling with a sedan.

Will update as I gather more information and fix a travel date.


More details:

Vehicle- 2008 Honda civic 1.8L, 5speed A/T.
Estimated travel time- 12 hours.
Estimated travel distance- 580km.
No of occupants- 3.
Max speed- 120km/hr.

But your distance too long oo.. how you go use 12 hours take waka 580km? When motor dey move at 120km/hr.. you no do the maths?

I'm travelling with my sedan (V6) too.. the journey shouldn't be more than 7 hours (bar police checkpoint delays).

Lagos to Benin is 4 hours or less.. Benin to Onitsha is around less than 2 hours.. Onitsha to Owerri is 30 mins.

Good estimate. Leave Lagos early to avoid the bottleneck along Lagos ibadan expressway. Your target should be to be at sagamu or ijebu ode by 5.30am at most.
Therefore a departure time of 4.00am should be considered. Traffic will be heavy. Forget about security situation. No be Abuja Kaduna road be this. The numerous checkpoints (over 50 as at my last count) has taken care of that. As long as you aren't travelling on a Monday, south east roads are a breeze. Na Xmas, everyone will wish you well.

Lagos to Benin cannot be achieved in 4 hours if you have police escort with you sef. The checkpoint alone are as many as God's gift and you forgot to add the traffic at each checkpoint which are as long as moses staff except you intend to drive against traffic and offcourse you may not eventually get to your destination because trailer drivers don't pity one way travellers

u cant do Onitsha to owerri 30 mins,traffic ard Onitsha axis of d onitsha owerri express,traffic @ mgbidi axis as a result of bad spot,about 3 militarycheck point where d vehicle occupants wud come down n use leg cross,.onitsha owerri ur best bet is 1 hr 15 mins or more

Those plying the route should educate him and ways to avoid UGM, IPOB and other Owerri-Aba terrorist unit formations.

As for me, Immediately I reach HEADBRIDGE, I am already home......safe and sound.

Onitsha to Owerri is not 30mins and had never been 30 mins.


You guys should be lying with ease Abeg.

Onitsha to Owerri is approximately 2hrs Journey...or even more this days.

When you get to onitsha and want to escape Owerri road traffic jam, I will advice you to divert through Atani road then burst out to Ozubulu and continue your journey. SE is safe, just military checkpoints here and there.

Onitsha to owerri is 30 mins?do you want to fly …only onitsha hold up is up to 30mimutes
