Many times Ijaws claim that Igbo Language in Bonny and Opobo came from Slave trade. When that doesn't work, they claim it came through marrying Igbo women. But Glynn work has shown that Ibani-Ijaw came to Bonny through Igbo Aboriginals marrying Ijoid women! So you see, Ijaws ( through Alagoa)turned history on its head. It wasn't Ibani-Ijaw that was endangered language in Bonny and Opobo, it was original Igbo language of Bonny and Opobo ancestors that was endangered in Bonny and Opobo because the Igbo founders were marrying Ijoid women who were teaching their children Ijoid language. My hypothesis is that Igbo Language of Bonny nearly went into extinction but was saved by the coming of slave trade, which meant that Igbo Slaves flooded the Island and helped the endangered Igbo language of the Igbo Aboriginals survive. In contrast, the original Efik language of the New Calabar (Kalabari) died and couldn't be revived and was replaced with the current Ijoid language they call Kalabari language, probably introduced by Ijoid women. And it's not a coincidence that the so called Ibani-Ijaw language that survived in rural parts of Opobo and Bonny was also same as those of Kalabari language. The so called Ibani-Ijaw language is just Kalabari language. |

BKayy:Abeg screenshot full length o,so I can read and access properly. Baikie infact confirmed Ijos as the Aborigines as I said earlier. It's confusing especially to you Igbos because you do not read between the lines. You see Igbo and Bonny in a sentence and boom there is a nexus to you. You must understand these Europeans have little understanding of the African peculiarities. An African can live at a place for years and still not be regarded as an indigene but a settler. Those Igbo slaves described as "Bonny people" by Europeans would have been called settlers by an African writer. I hope you understand now? |

JANK23H:Here is Baike! And by the way, every ethnic group in old Eastern region were sold as Slaves, Ijaws inclusive. Bonny Igbo kings sold Ijaw slaves as well. Ijaws just didn't have enough population to sustain slave trade, which is why there was greater emphasis on the more populous Igbos and Ibibiod tribes. See Ijaws that were sold as slaves here:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berbice_Creole_Dutch

JANK23H:It is page 334 to 336. Open it yourself and screenshot to your heart content. Now tell me the page that Baikie said that Jo men neared Bonny talkless of being owners? Bonny that was very territorial then. Even Baikie acknowledged Aboh influence in most parts of Niger Delta, where he is occasionally stopped upon entering new territories by numbers Igbo Patrol Canoes, thus bringing down the fallacies that Igbo people disliked water. Tell me the page and I will screenshot and upload it. |

Massive population displacements in the Niger delta is not hard to conceive. Because of poor living conditions, It is often hard to comprehend how tiny settlements could be on the coast. Some notable towns in the Niger delta now that Europeans mentioned centuries ago, consisted of only some families or a couple hundred people. In these conditions, it is very possible for a couple of boats carrying some number of people to completely alter or displace original populations. |

Igboid:Abeg leave this international court story.I have identified the the loopholes in those accounts you presented. They confirmed the presence of IJos in those locations (which you and yours have tried hard to discountenance) and as initial dwellers. The accounts were still disjointed in certain areas expecially of Baike, same as Crow. Crow consistently talked about the natives and the Eboues. The dealings between the natives and Eboues. And them he would go on to say the Eboues were from Bonny. |

| Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by BKayy: 1:45pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
Shiver99:That is not the case with Bonny. Bonny by description (Baikie and Hugh Crow) has a powerful Navy, only second to Aboh and subdued Andoni. So it is practically impossible for any group to displace such Igbo city without the whole coast hearing of it. Jo men dared not dream of contesting with Bonny. |

JANK23H:What you posted said that Okirika and Bonny are of Igbo origin and the small Ijaw words appearing on their vicinity is due to intermarriage with Ijaw women. Is that how you people conquered the Igbo city of Bonny and turned the natives to your slaves? Through Intermarriage? |

| Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by BKayy: 1:59pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
JANK23H:The article started like this "Commencing with Bonny and its people, if they are of Ibo origin as ALL THE EVIDENCE OBTAINABLE APPEARS TO PROVE" That is there is no doubt that Bonny people are of Igbo origin. No single reasonable doubt, then went ahead to lay an opinion like most of you are doing here. But one thing you can't take off the thread is that there is no single doubt that Bonny people are of Igbo descent. Now if you are buying the opinion, that means that you don't even recognise Pepple, his ancestors, the other Bonny Kings and the current natives as the Original inhabitants of Bonny. You people have not said what you want. |

BKayy:I support this angle or hypotesis. Ndoki dialect of Igbo was the aboriginal language but was almost displaced just like the Ibibiod language in those axis before the coming of the slave trade that saw a mass influx of Isuama dominated slaves into the Island. This move single-handedly revived the language and push the Kalabari dialect now dubiously called Ibani into submission. What Ijaw pirates couldn't achieve in Bonny/Opobo, they succeded in Brass, Nembe, Kalabari and in some sections of Okrika. Today the Ijaw labdgrabbers led by Alagoa the fraud, are trying to push Kalabari dialect called Ibani into Bonny mainstream. "The speak Ibani initiative, the stop speaking Igbo", "the revive your Ibani mother tongue", "the stop saying biko but Ibama", etc has been part of this agenda since Adaka Boro couldn't wipe off the people during the civil war genocide. The game is now exposed. Ndigbo over to you. |

BKayy:Who are the Bonny people? Of course the Igbo slaves can be regarded as "Bonny people" because by European standards they had been in Bonny for sometime;some may have been born there. You didn't attend to the issue I raised though.Attend to it.That is where the distinction was made between the Ijos and Igbos. |

Eastlink:You've come with your hypothesis again. We are debating facts and dissecting a statement here. Always digging conjuctures from your ass. One minute Kalabari is Igbo and Ibani is an Igbo dialect, the next minute it's an Ijo dialect. I have asked for excerpts or news report where Boro or Boro led Nigeria Army attacked Bonny.Till date no response. You can't deceive the world with this lies.We are not all IPoB. |
| Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by BKayy: 2:18pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
Eastlink:Guy from what I read from Baikie and Hugh Crow, Bonny was a very territorial and Violent Igbo city. Bonny even made Okirika and later Andoni tributaries. Andoni was forced to a treaty to provide soldiers and canoes anytime Bonny is at war. They said the Slaves didn't do much to their language as they maintained close ties with their Igbo kins in the hinterland. At the end of page 336, Baikie made note that they embark on pilgrimage to Aro, and they maintained cordial relationships with Aboh and their relatives Ndoki and Ngwá. Where Jo men who now call themselves Ijaw fit into all these things is what I don't understand. |

Two of the people you listed there (Okirika and Andoni) were tributaries to Bonny. So Jo men pirates did not displace them. Bonny Igbo natives survived through thick and thin until lies started flying in from 1971 after the war. |
| Re: The True Identity Of Bonny/Opobo(UBANI) People Facts Versus Fiction by Eastlink(m): 2:34pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
BKayy:I'm aware that Bonny was dominant during time to the extent of fighting wars with Andoni and Kalabari. I'm only looking at the angle of inter-marriage with Kalabari as one means that brought in that Kalabari dialect now called Ibani language into Bonny. I'm also aware that the first Pepple King brought in Ijaw culture which was trending among her neigbours at that time into Bonny. It was obvious that Bonny at that time later got sorrounded by these pirates and far from their hinterland kinsmen. |

JANK23H:In response to how Kalabari dialect called Ibani gradually found its way into Bonny Island. The first one that talked about inter-marriage is just an hypotesis by me. The second about King Pepple adopting foreign cultures and the third about influence from neigbours. But Adaka Boro genocide wasn't an hypotesis but happened. |
