NDOKI
An Ndọ̀ki community on the banks of a river, possibly the Imo, circa 1908.
The Ndoki subgroup is at the South Easternmost part of Igbo land, straddling between Ukwa area of Abia State, Oyigbo LGA of Rivers State, and pockets of them in the Western limits of AkwaIbom State.
Some people in Ijoid groups like Okrika and Ibani are of Ndoki descent. The Igbo dialect spoken in Bonny and Opobo areas of Rivers State is that of the Ndoki.
The Imo river flows through Ndoki land on its way to Opobo.
Ohambele Ndoki was a notable slave depot in the past. Azumini was another market town, notable for oil palm trade at the dawn of legitimate trade.
The oil palm wealth of Ndọ̀ki, along with that of the Ngwá, Ibibio and Annang hinterlands 'had contributed to the wealth of the Opobo citystate, who along with other riverine citystates were the middlemen in the trade between the Europeans and the people of the hinterlands.
Some scholars argue that Jaja's resistance of the British was not out of the desire to stop imperialism but due to his desire to make more profit in the trade by controlling the oil palm markets in the hinterlands, as letting the British trade directly with the hinterland markets would bring decline to the citystate's economy..
A legend is told about one "ODUM EGEGE" who had stood up against the domination and oppresion of Ndoki by the King and people of Opubo-ama, who lived miles, downstream the Imo river.
The King ordered Abiriba and Aro smiths to sculpt and mummify "Odum Egege" alive ! according to the legend...
Ndoki, an Igbo subgroup is bordered by the Ngwa and Asa Igbo subgroups to the North and West respectively, the Annang to the East, and the Ogoni to the South.
Together with the Asa, they are known as "Ụ̀kwà"
They have historic and trade ties with the Bonny (Ubani) and Opobo peoples. Okoloma is a clan name in both Ndoki and Bonny. The name "Ubani" is common among the Ndoki as well.
Akwete, an Ndoki clan is an Igbo heritage site for traditional cloth weaving. The prized fabric produced by the women of the clan also goes by the name of the clan "Akwete", a source of ethnic pride to the Igbo.
However, the cloth weaving industry began declining gradually, with the introduction of foreign fabrics.
Nwọtam is an Igbo masquerade with its origin in Ndoki land.
Akwete, Azumini, Akirika-obu, Afam and Ohambele are notable Ndoki clans.

What does UBANI mean in Ijaw?

Also how do you explain the fact that the earliest books written about UBANI Bonny, clearly noted that the traditional rulers of Bonny were of Igbo ancestry?

Listen carefully dear nonentities, this is not Ika or Ikwerre affair. If una want craze for this thread I am ready.
Lets craze together.
Ubani and Opobo is not negotiable

Before we start our madness, you all should note that No Ubani son calls his homeland Bonny in the first place. Only krio and ashanti people the British dragged to our coasts to guard the port call it Bonny.
It is a shame that those people the British dragged down here now call themselves Ijaw, claiming Igbo, oru, Urhobo, Itsekiri and Bini lands

All this “we are not igbo” flooding our cyber space comes mostly from Ijaw people. People don’t know that 60% of Niger Delta is IGBO with the remaining 40% having Igbo blood in their veins.

What does ubaNI or ibaNI mean in Ijaw. Don't just choose an alphabet. I need the meaning of the whole town name

Initiation is an English word. INI means grave in Igbo language, but INITIATION doesn't really mean anything in Igbo language.

Go to my profile and read the attachment in my picture section. That is the first book ever written about Bonny and its Igbo origins. The observations and collation of facts for the writing of the book commenced in 1790, but the book itself was written in 1830

The first book every written about UBANI clearly established the Igbo origins of Bonny. The book also noted the fact that Ijaw migrants from Brass were present in Bonny working as porters and other artisans. The Ijaw content of Bonny is not indigenous. Thanks to the first book every written about UBANI. All these facts are clearly stated there.

I am not interested in books a man wrote probably an Ibo influenced writer. Nonsense.

Have you come across a bonny man and he said he is Ibo ?? I mean any one of them.

Have you also come across an Opobo man and he opined that he is Ibo.

Pls continue with the delusion. It's fun to read

That question should be asked to INC who drank too much ogogoro and decide to add an Igbo speaking group into the Ijaw umbrella. If that is not outright landgrabbing what else do we call it?

Nothing like support the truth. What truth do you even know? If you know the truth then we can assume that Ajegunle, Olodi Apapa, Ondo south and Warri belongs to the Ijaws according to INC nationalist. We can also assume that Benin own Lagos according to Great Benin Descendants.

Before claiming to know the truth, ensure you look at the arguments of both sides before claiming Judge.
