As a non lawyer, I find it difficult to grasp also. First he only made reference to the 1999 constitution. So what happens to marriages held before 1999?
Then what is the current status of millions marriages held since 1999 till date?
What is status of inheritance and family judgements made as a consequence of marriages conducted in ikoyi? Are the judgements null and void?
What of those that recieved citizenships of other countries because of marriages conducted at Ikoyi Registry (ironically Ikoyi Registry is the only Marriage Registry recognised by US embassy), do their citizenship become null and void?

If you want to travel with your wife, you can't bring bride price receipt to the embassy as POM (proof of marriage). You may not even be able to use the word "spouse" in your legal documents (e.g. will) without explicitly mentioning her name. Otherwise, it might be contestable.

Media personality, Daddy Freeze has reacted to a Federal High Court judgement which declared that marriages conducted at Ikoyi registry are invalid, IgbereTV reports.

The court presided over by Justice D. E. Osiagor, held that only the local government marriage registries are empowered to do such by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Osiagor ruled that it is unconstitutional for the federal government to conduct marriages.

Reacting to the ruling, Daddy Freeze said that might be why his first marriage didn't work out as everything was "null and void from the get go."

He also said if the judgement was given before now, he wouldn't have needed a divorce.
