Yes you are right, people go for Court marriage because of legal documents, apart from that nothing more.

Not just legal document. Only court marriage secures the rights of women and children in a marriage. With a marriage certificate, relatives of deceased husbands cannot just come and appropriate the properties of their brother.

Also the widow and their children cannot be driven out of their matrimonial home, which is quite common under marriages conducted under native law.

Everything is null and void. The judge referred to the constitution that clearly says the function of Local Governments. Such powers were not conferred to Ikoyi Registry and the Registry has been carrying out an illegal act for a very long time.

Fortunately your friend has the right marriage certificate. I don't think embassies will completely reject couples who registered at Ikoyi because what they want is proof of marriage and such proof exist in wedding photos, church marriage certificate, traditional rites and photos. Showing all these including the Ikoyi Registry, as well as change of name in National dailies shows proof of marriage.
