One thing for sure is that China keeps talking about and hyping his military prowess. We all know she is powerful but the reality is that she still has a long way to go before she can catch up with the USA. Sometimes last week, Biden had a zoom meeting with Putin, and he firmly and harshly warned Putin that there would be grave consequences if he ever invade Ukraine. Since then he has been confused and has even lay low regarding his planned invasion of Ukraine.


The fact is USA will never hype his military might. You will even hear their top generals talking about the fact that China and Russia are going far militarily. So it's not that they fear Russia or China but the USA is just playing mind games.


American presence is felt in almost every part of the world. E.g English which belongs to UK and USA is the lingua franca of the world not mandarin Chinese, ask any primary school or Secondary student the name of the Chinese or Russian leader, I'm very sure 90 to 97% wouldn't know it. But ask any of them the name of the American leader, 90 to 97% will easily answer you.


Their military accommodates people from different countries. If USA wants to spy on any subsaharan African country, she won't use whites, she will use blacks like us in their army to spy. same goes for Arab Americans in the army, for spying in the Arab world, etc. China doesn't have all these potentials.

When I say Asia is not like the EU with a common goal, I was trying to tell you not to count the rest of the continent when expressing Chinese influence in terms of numbers cause the desire to be the word leader is strictly a Chinese affair not a common goal shared by the continent. It was not disputing the unity of Asia's unity even though we both know it is not comparable to that of Europe. Countries in Europe are created according to culturally heritage (the same cultural heritage that makes China a huge country). It doesn't in any way signify lack of unity.

You did not address the core of my argument. You went off comparing unity as if that's the bone of contention. The point here is that China as a country is a very closed system and that makes the rest of the world wary of them including those from the same continent. This has a negative impact on thier influence and will forever stand between them and their dream of becoming the world leader. It is not just a game of numbers.

I am Canadian by birth. I live in Canada. I have lived in the US and I have been to the Middle East multiple times for work. I don't know much about Nigeria other than the fact that my parents are originally from Nigeria and I visit the country once in a decade. So I was not even making reference to Nigeria when I talked about freedom.

If you live in the US for just a year and spend a week in China, you will not come back here to ask me what freedom I am referring to. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech/journalism, freedom of association, etc., are almost none existent. Heavy media censorship and news filtering is common. Heck, as a visitor, even the people of China see you as a stranger and have no issues making that obvious. Nevertheless, how thier leadership and lifestyle work today for them is not the point as it's not really my issue. The point is how this authoritarian system does not work in favour of thier end goal cause the world is not very likely to look up to a country they cannot relate with.

Yes, being a world leader doesn't mean other countries will have to drop their system for yours, but you must have a model they can emulate to some extent. A model that gives you the moral authority to weigh in on other people's issues. The reason the US is so influential is because many countries strive to be like them. Adopting thier models in almost every sphere implies a change in the US ripples down. And this, in turn, puts the country in a position to decide the way forward. Now, how many citizens of most world countries would like to adopt the Chinese model? Even the Nigerians praising the country will be the first to protest if the catholics are formed to cut off from the Pope.

I am not disputing China's economic success. I acknowledged it in the first comment you quoted. I'm saying that is not a system can make them a world power.

Exactly. I am crazily interested in this discussion and in world politics, now more than ever after I finished reading a political thriller by Ken Follet. Omo. World War III actually happened in it in a VERY realistic way, and if real life events should follow the trajectory of events in that book ehn - failed diplomatic resolutions, revenge and counter-retaliations in a ''non-escalatory'' manner and the fact that allies of opposing forces are forced to step in to defend in a fight no matter who is wrong (treaties and pacts). Hmm.

The end of civilization was truly depicted in the book and the US Army was at DEFCON 1 or something like that.

You have something against the US and you have succeeded in making this US vs China discussion. While I'd like to have that chat, it is very important not to engage in a strawman argument. I am not arguing about the US/China relationship and who's right or wrong. I am saying that China does not have the socio-cultural structure to be the world leader. It is a closed system and the world will never look to them for leadership. Neither democratic systems nor other authoritarian systems will bend for that.

China will be become richer and other countries will do business with them for that. But that's all about it. Military might will not work cause people need to willing follow thier lead and people won't do that cause they can't relate with them.
