Data Shows Almost Half Nigeria’s Electricity Supply Is From Generators by milann(op): 9:04am On Dec 19, 2021
Despite billions spent and promises of stable power supply from the present administration, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed almost half of Nigeria’s electricity supply is from generators.

NBS disclosed this in a document on Power Sector Data Preview, which was presented to the Abuja Chamber of Commerce on Friday.

According to the report, 48.6 percent were from generators indicating that many citizens in Nigeria self provide for thier electricity.

The NBS document showed that petrol-powered generators accounted for the bulk (22.6 per cent) of the electricity supplied by generators.

This was followed by diesel-powered generators, 16.6 percent, while gas-powered generators accounted for 9.4 percent of the self-generated electricity.

The bureau said out of 51.2 per cent of electricity provided by the country’s power grid, gas-powered plants accounted for 39.5 per cent, while hydroelectric plants were providing 11.7 per cent.

Off-grid renewables, according to the NBS, accounted for 0.1 per cent of the power consumed nationwide.

More than half actually..

OBJ comes to mind..

Everyone's(me too) complaining of Buhari, but the problem didn't really started with him..

Sixteen years of PDP in power shattered the Nigeria of our dreams..

MODIFIED

I can see that some people are ignorantly mentioning me..

I never exonerated the APCheat government over past rule of Pdp1gs!!

All I'm saying that both contributed to the many problems bedeviling the country. In other words, Pdp1g shouldn't be seen as an angel over APCheat, because they're same!!!

Lol.. The data isn't accurate at all, it should be close to 70% or 80%.

It's only in Nigeria you pay for being in darkness every month.

That's why they won't fix energy supply problem in Nigeria. They make so much gains from sabotaging the economy.

Imagine someone saying that they can't fix roads once and for all because there wont be any more work to be done. So Nigeria is perpetually fixing roads, perpetually fighting insecurity, perpetually tackling one problem or the other.

All because people make money from Chaos.

Not surprised. A country where people celebrate the mediocrity acts of those elected into position, why do we expect them to do what is expected of them?

The thing is Nigerians do not pay the power sector the kind of money they need to fix things and that includes both the government and the people.

Forcing the sector to run at a loss.

That's why we spend more on generators.

The truth is, we need at least 30 billion dollars a year, for 16 years to fix power. Our budget, with borrowing and debt is not up to 28 billion dollars US.

it's definitely more than that percentage...

States like Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Oyo, definitely get more than 80 percent of their daily electricity supply from generators..

Because I have 3 big generators in my different offices...

And every day they are on...

Our leaders don't care about our welfare via electricity... And useless Nepa will be taxing us to pay electricity bills, paying for light we don't consume for......

Who doesn't know that Disco(NEPA) light is standby in this country. For some business owners(welders and co) when they will need the light to work, there won't be light.
