I agree with the presidency on this matter. I suspect vote buying will trouble the compulsory direct primary aspect.

Direct primaries would pave way to new coming politicians

Could they become the highest bidder? The incumbent might steal more to ensure they have better chances

They may have their way at the NASS but the challenge is the states cos the party and foot soldiers are in the pocket of the governors

The proposed law is an act of the National Assembly and not a constitutional amendment. It does not require the consent of the state house of assemblies. Once the two chambers of the NASS vote to override the president's veto, the bill automatically becomes a law. Getting 2/3 in the House of Reps will be the biggest challenge.

Any close door section at this moment is a political gimmick to override the interest of the masses to oversee the transparency of deliberations of their constituency/district representative on this electoral imbroglio. The outcome of such close door section probably may not be in the interest of the masses I guess

You don't get it. National Assembly members think direct primary will help their ambition and reduce the influence of governors in determining who runs for office but I doubt anything will change. Independent candidature is the answer without it I doubt much will change because our political parties are near business outfits. With independent candidature the parties will sit up.

By the time the presidency dangles irresistible carrots before some of them the rest will be history. This Senate is robotic and puppet-like.
