God bless the OP for this post. I have friends that frequent countries overseas due to thier skills.

I'm presently following the Data Science hierarchy, hoping to become a Database Engineer (a long way indeed, but I no get choice).

Now my question is, can a Database Engineer be regarded as a Software Developer?

Because it seems the demand and pay for software developers is higher than other fields. If not, I'd like to focus on Data Analytics/Science.

Thanks boss.
Before choosing a new skill, you may want to consider demand and passion.

As for demand, there is an abundance of data out there. What you're looking for is Year on year increase in demand for your chosen skill. Stackoverflow, Glassdor e.t.c report statistics like this.

If the demand for your skill set has been on a decline in the last 3 years (3 years is a pretty long time in tech), you should brace up for a challenging job search.

Band-wagonism is really strong in the tech industry. Suddenly, you'll realize everyone is screaming and howling about this new tech in town, usually, demand follows the trend.

Even the work visa is no more difficult to get like before. The standards have been greatly reduced for tech guys. Imagine people getting UK and Germany like say na garri them dey drink. I have ever seen Canada and Australia. This was unheard of like 10 years ago. Getting a work visa to a first world country from Nigeria. Who you be? I just wish I started coding earlier but nothing spoil grin
What is DevOps?
DevOps (Development Operations) is a combination of Software Development and IT Operations. In DevOps, Software Development and IT Operations are two separate entities that co-exist. DevOps focuses on bringing these together to improve communication and increase productivity in the organisation. This unique combination allows an organisation and IT department to continually deliver quality value in the face of continually changing requirements. The objectives of DevOps are to increase the ability to provide the product and improving reliability while reducing inefficiencies, as well as satisfying their customer by providing the best services. DevOps follows the simple process such as plan, develop, deliver and operate phases. Each phase depends on each other, and the phases are not role-specific.

Yes, I understand that. Roles within the Data Science circle are expected to increase exponentially within the next few years.

However, with all due respect, the main question hasn't been answered yet.

Can a Database Engineer be regarded as a Software Developer?

There are free resources online. Everything i used are free online tutorials, including job search and tech interview tutorials. All you need is the discipline to keep at it.

Hello please, i'm a lost sheep hoping to be found in the tech world too. i want to know little about female in the tech field and way to go about it. i believe i'v wasted my life enough. i need real help in the tech world. i heard is really hard but the zeal here is harder.
It doesn't matter if you're female or male, you can hit it big in tech.

First, you need to identify what area of tech you're interested in, do a Google search and choose.
Tech is wide, from web development, app development, data science, UI design, cyber security etc

Then seek for several free resources online and start learning. There are sites and there's YouTube where you can learn from.

Dedicate at least 3 hours daily to learn this, do it consistently for about 4 months, and apply for jobs (preferably remote).

The ball is in your court lady.
You can always come here to ask questions, join other tech communities online like Twitter, Reddit, Discord and so on.

Build your LinkedIn profile and connect with people in the same field.

Go to StackOverflow if you're stuck in anything.
Most importantly, build projects, that's how you really learn, don't be caught in the tutorial hell. As soon as you learn anything, build a project on it.

You've got this.

I've been researching lately about digital nomad visas and I've come across some countries

Portugal
Mexico
Estonia

Who has information about how to apply for any of the digital nomad visas?

I have not met one Software Engineer who does not plan to Japa. Don't get me wrong, there are some who may be completely okay with living in Nigeria for some reasons, chief of which could be their spending power due to currency exchange rate.

If you work remotely for a foreign company, you might be closer to achieving your goal than you thought.

Myself, a Software Engineer, living abroad and working for yet another foreign org., my dream is wandering all over the globe( barring ongoing COVID madness). I call myself a global wanderer.

Your chances before now:

Before now, the most common means to japa was through sponsorship by a potential foreign employer. However, you have to be a whiz in your tech stack with tonnes of experience. As per requirements, most countries require potential employer to prove that they are unable to source talent locally before "importing" talent (you). The odds against us in respect to this is huge. Why should any company go through that stress except you're really special. Few people I know "Japa-ed" through this means. Other disadvantage of this is that you're somewhat restricted to that country. For people who are "waka-abouts" like myself, this is not acceptable.

Your chances today:

One of the good things that came with this COVID outbreak is the popularisation of remote work. With this popularisation came Digital Nomad Visa. This visa category started getting known in 2020 and blew up in 2021. 2022 is going to be mad...

Estonia, Germany, Georgia, UAE, Portugal, Iceland and many more European and third world countries alike have implemented this visa class or a variant of it. Feelers are that more countries will follow suite.

It makes sense for these countries because they can stimulate economic growth by bringing in independent workforce that'll not compete with indigenes for local jobs.

The requirements

The requirements are almost the same across the board except for few variations here and there.

1. Proof that you're employed or self-employed by an organisation outside your proposed country of residence.
2. Proof of a minimum monthly income typically an average of $2000 per month. Some others like Portugal require as low as less than €700 per month.
3. Other sundry requirements for immigration like police background check, health insurance e.t c

The residence permit you'll get ranges in duration from 1 year to 5 years and are mostly renewable.

So if you're skilled, currently working remotely, and you hope to japa, don't sleep on this one. Do your research, plan and do the needful. On the other hand, if you love moving around, 3 months, 4 months or longer here and there, all the while working and earning $$$, THIS IS IT. Let's do it!!!

For people like us who can't stay in one place, we've found a way to run around the globe. My goal is to have lived in 6 countries by 2025.
Beautiful! Gracias wink
