Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has named his 28-final list of the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroon 9th January – 6th February 2022, with Captain Ahmed Musa, midfield enforcer Wilfred Ndidi and effervescent forward Victor Osimhen all making the cut for the big houseparty.

The three –time winners will confront seven-time and record winners Egypt, Sudan and debutants Guinea Bissau with venue in the northern town of Garoua, and a mouth-watering clash with the Pharaohs in the group opener on Tuesday, 11th January means the Eagles must hit the ground at blistering pace.

Former Nigeria Captain Eguavoen, who coached the Super Eagles to third-place finish at the finals in Egypt 15 years ago, has selected four goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders and 10 forwards to aim for Nigeria’s fourth diadem in Cameroon.

Goalkeepers Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho, defenders Kenneth Omeruo, Olaoluwa Aina and Abdullahi Shehu, midfielders Joseph Ayodele-Aribo and Chidera Ejuke and forwards Moses Simon, Odion Ighalo and Samuel Chukwueze are also on the roster.

There is a return to the group for former U17 World Cup –winning captain Kelechi Nwakali, forward Emmanuel Dennis and 2016 Olympics star Sadiq Umar.

All invited players, bar the UK-based crew, are expected to arrive in camp in the Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja on 29th December, with the UK-based players expected to start arriving on Monday, 3rd January.

nice list by mr Austin n its seems he would lead us to AFCON which is better than that mourinho new man..
my question is, if spain n Enrique go get mind drop ramos dt av won it all n captained dt spain to numerous games n titles, why cnt we drop this musa from our list?
even the winning squad of spain n Germany were once dropped to allow younger players get involved no matter how hard it was but we keep including d inactive musa in our list bcox he is the captain or his dad owns the super eagles or wat?
I know he would still Mk the worldcup squad n still captain dt team again....seriously we ain't ready to move forward

This is a fair list. My fear is the goal keeping position, Okoye still has problem with his positioning, I think the Coach should choose the first goal keeper on merit. I am happy Nwakali is in the list, he is the only natural creative midfielder in the team, Iwobi is a shadow of himself. With good technical input, this team can go far. Best of Luck to the Super eagles

In October, CAF increased the squad size from 23 to 28, to allow the participating teams have a larger squad list for the competition in case some players test positive for COVID-19.

The substitution is the normal three (3), but an added substitute incase the game gets to extra time.

For Musa, it is more of a political issue that football. Drop him and his godfather would come biting hard. If you understand what I mean

The only name that gets me pissed whenever I see him around anything super eagles is that basket Akpeyi. Really really wonder why we keep inviting that dude. Like we're telling the world this is one of the best goalkeepers Nigeria can offer? It's an insult. Just like when we kept inviting Danny Shittu some years back.
