A Phd Holder In Finance doesn't know what USDT is by Xj2020: 9:43am On Jan 02, 2022
I received the greatest shock of my life a week ago when a lecturer friend of mine in one of the prestigious Federal University in Nigeria, and a PhD holder in Finance doesn't know what USDT is.

He erroneously assumed that Bitcoin is the sole property of a single individual who is at liberty to shut down the cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) whenever he feels like.

The bottom line is that how could a supposedly guru in Finance who has several published papers in finance related topic under his belt, know nothing about recent advancement in the financial market like the digital currency known as cryptocurrency

I am baffled to know that I am well informed than the majority of my friends in the Department of Finance where this same friend of mine lectures despite not being a financial person or expert.

Crypto is an entirely new vista that needs to be studied wholly.
Just like some prof in computer science will find metaverse foreign to them.

Listen to yourself all over again say that he doesn't know it all and tell me if you actually made sense with that statement ☺️

I think the question here should be how do you not know that crypto isn’t the only topic in finance and is in fact just a small piece that once upon a time, even hedge fund managers couldn’t explain it.

What many of you kids fail to realise is that there are members of this forum old enough to be your father. Respond to people's contributions with some iota of respect. Like i said, no one knows it all. Even a Ph.d holder might experience an embarrassing memory skip to a very simple question.

I would pardon your level of ignorance for referring to me as a kid afterall it's just the beginning of the year. Nairaland is a faceless forum maybe that's why things are the way they are

You are a kid for assuming that a professor of finance does not merit his title simply because he does not know what USDT means!

Let me ask you - Do you know the names of all the stablecoins in existence?

No one has a monopoly of knowledge.

USDT is simply a stable coin that is used within the crypto community; it has nothing whatsoever to do with financial standards or financial principles or concepts which are issued and regulated by the various international finance and accountancy bodies.

Apart from this, USDT and all other stablecoins are not even legal tender in any country therefore a finance expert is well within his rights to claim ignorance of it

I could as well create my own stable coin and call it SRNaira therefore it would be foolish to question the professional competence of an individual simply because he has never heard of it!

NB
Think well and choose your words very carefully before you respond to me.
I have a PhD in Savagery and I will prove it to you if you talk rubbish here!

Which university in Nigeria has usdt in its curriculum?
because you manage to bag common OND after coping your life from pillar to post in school so you now know more than the PhD holder. Was it not from internet that you learned about usdt?.
You lack sense! Gerrat from nairaland jorr

I think you are overrating the whole cryptocurrency fraud scheme and assuming that a serious member of the academia will take the whole cryptocurrency charade serious wink

Please don't be shocked sir. That's to tell you that usdt is for the street , not mainstream academia. That you stay and live in that bubble does not make it less of what it actually is; a fraud.
That your PhD shocker is not alone, in fact, a fellow researcher like him at University of Oxford, has far worse scathing remarks for the whole fraud scheme that so far has been banned in over 50 countries, rising from just 8 countries in 2018.

Serious minded folks in the mainstream finance research, after applying all their critical research tools to the whole charade called cryptocurrency, come to the conclusion that the whole cryptocurrency is a fraud and insulting to ponzi to even compare it to ponzi.
https://www.ft.com/content/83a14261-598d-4601-87fc-5dde528b33d0

Like every thing in life that is built on fraud, cryptocurrency charade will end eventually. It's just a matter of fact and time. And even after cryptocurrency fraud ends, another one will come and same greedy folks will bite the dust with that one too. Creating Fraudulent schemes under different nomenclatures is a whole industry and there are foolish and greedy folks that always don't learn who hype and get high on the fraudulent schemes until the bubble bursts. Unfortunately, you all will never learn wink
