That's the tradition in the Christian North, most especially ECWA, COCIN and other Evangelical churches. The bride is taken to the officiating pastors house a day to the wedding and the pastor will be the one to prepare and hand her over to her husband next day.

I really doubt that so called "tradition" is common outside the major towns and the State capital. This is a rural area and has kept to certain Church "traditions" agreed upon by some Church elders for whatever reasons. There is nothing "North" or any geographical location about it....just the fact that this kidnapping took place in a rural area hence an easy prey for Fulani Terrorists.

I personally know someone from that area who confessed to me as far back as 2003 (During the Obasanjo era) Fulani Terrorists in that area have been buying machine guns and doing target practice in the bush! Any sensible community would have alerted their traditional and political leaders to convene an urgent meeting to counter the imminent threat. Yet their corrupt political leaders have been rendered mute and bribed to complete blindness most times going out their way to discourage youths from creating an effective Vigilante Security outfit for the main purposes of checking and stopping Fulani Terrorism in that area. Unfortunately, since 2018 when there was a massive religious genocide in that area carried out by the Fulani Terrorists with full support of the Nigerian Army and Federal Government....these Fulani Terrorists have only gotten emboldened during the senseless tenure of their fellow cow herder Buhari....

That whole area is a ticking time bomb. My urgent advice is for the Christian indigenous people of that place to be very alert and prepared. Never ever think the State Government or Federal will come to help you. You have to collaborate to create your own Security outfits and possibly arm yourselves to the teeth for defensive purposes.

The only people that can stop a Bad Guy with a gun....is a Good guy with an even bigger gun. The Fulanis and Muslim Terrorists all over have shown that they are the lunatic bad guys with guns that can never be reasoned with....the wild ass spawn of Ishmael that will be against everyone and everyone will be against him....just as the Holy Scripture foretold. You know what to do....if you want to stop any future genocides and kidnappings.

Where we come from, a day before the wedding, the maid and her friends spend the night at the pastor's house. The reason for this is because the pastor's house is in the church compound, so there will be no logistical issue on the wedding day. The Pastor's house is not like you people's pastors house in the southern part of Nigeria. We call it Pastorium here. It has many rooms. Rooms for other pastor guest, rooms for strangers that have no where to sleep and room for bride and her bride maids. It is all one big compound. The pastor is in charge of that compound. That is why it is called pastor's house. Every Church must build a Pastorium. It is common practice among churches in the middle belt of Nigeria. Orthodox churches not you guys kind of pentecostal church down south.

Over there, some Pastor's houses are not personal houses. Such properties belong to the Church and are in most cases, build within the Church premises and have quarters that can house visitors or a bride and her bridesmaids a day before the wedding if logistics could be an issue on the day of the wedding.
