This is one of shameful legacies of a supposed centre of excellence- Lagos state.

The govt forcefully took over people's lands, resold it to cronies and other criminals and blatantly refused to obey all court orders regarding the matter after the affected owners sued.

The govt even resorted to thuggery to eliminate the arrowheads of the applicants!

Read full details here: https://gazettengr.com/why-we-struck-shangisha-landlord-association-explains-takeover-of-magodo/

Next in line will be Foreshore Estate in Ikoyi.

Impunity has been reigning in Nigeria since the 80s and there's no succour in sight.

Lawless County.
Where else can this possibly happen.

For those who don't know the genesis of this problem, let me brief them.
Way back in the early 80s, the Lasg seized the Shangisha estate from developers without compensation. I know that because my family was among the victims.
The affected developers formed a union and then sued LASG. The first court ruled in favor of the developers. The LASG appealed, lost , appealed again and again, over the span of over 40yrs. During all this meantime, the had LASG sold off the same plots of land and houses in Shangisha to new Set of developers, who I assume, through political and ethnic connections.
Finally, 2 years ago, the highest court in the land ruled once agian in favor of the developers.
Having no more appeals to file, the LASG Finally agreed to a settlement. Rather than financial compensation, they offered the developers plots of land somewhere in Badagry that were less than 1% I'm value to what they had lost in the hands of the same LASG.

Obviously, the developers declined the bad faith offer by the LASG and have been lobbying for a fairer deal.

The current agitation to reclaim their lost assets is basically aimed at embarrassing and strong-arming the LASG to give them fair compensation for stealing their lands and properties 40yrs ago.

In any decent country, these victims should have been adequately compensated long ago.

Is it hypocrisy or illiteracy that is the issue.

The Supreme Court passed a judgement.

A Nigerian wants a sitting governor to go to the press against the case and judgement.

Tomorrow, we will blame the same Executive for not practicing Separation of Powers and not allowing the Judiciary to be independent without interference.

Please, as much as you want be a home owner in Lagos, be very strategic and pray for God's guidance.

In Lagos, you can own a house in your 30s, and homeless in your 50s because of fraudulent government and its officials.

If possible and dependingon your levelof income, focus on developing in your own state capital, then build up funds and buy a land/house in a genuine estate here in Lagos to avoid this scenario.

I feel like crying for these Magodo landlords, especially at this trying times.

stop talking like a kid
who would have believed that MAGODO wasnt safe to own a home?

If you don’t know what to say keep quiet. Instead of you to blame the Supreme Courts judgement you’re accusing the police . The police men were just there to enforce the law nothing more nothing less.

This is a lesson to folks like you who stereotype and deceive the gullible that you can do any nonsense and get away with it. They bought land stolen from the true owners and think they'll still use the law to intimidate them but they forgot there are still people of conscience in the land. Only a foolish Nigerian will not learn from this.

You obviously don't know the history of the case wink
It's even belated. SC has pronounced judgement. They are not innocent buyers, definitely not. That case had lingered for years with caveat emptor on the land. The true owners are the true victims of those charlatans and non indigenes in charge of Lagos then. Imagine the cost of pursuing the case up to SC even after being cheated of their asset. That Chief Adeyiga who led the victims really tried. He is a true community leader.

What do you mean by " can't be true ?

My father is one of the developers who have been fighting for compensation from LASG for the last 40yrs. So we are fully abreast of the situation.

The Supreme court ruled that LASG should either fully compensate them or give them back their land.
Obviously, it would be easier for LASG to shell out a couple hundreds of millions of Naira to each litigant than to forcefully remove the current occupants of the estate.
Compensation is what they want and what they have been asking for since 1982.
