jihday:Judging by Chukwueze's typical game standard and rating, he had a very poor game. Out of just 31 touches of the ball, he made 4 key passes, had only 1 successful cross out of 5 attempts, completed only 1 dribble out of 3 attempts. He completed 13 passes out 16 attempts, placing his passing accuracy at 81%. Chukwueze had a very poor game, but with just 72 minutes on the pitch, dude made 4 key passes. Going by this stats Chukwueze wasn't even the forward with the poorest stat going forward. We are not defending against Sudan. We might be playing against a team that might likely sit deep. We need forwards who can create scoring chances. Eguavoen should find a way to play Chukwueze, Iwobi and Nwakali together. |

Okay, Uncle Kog... na you? Okay, you just considering other options? I understand the need to see other players but you see that Aribo? Undroppable in my books. If Nwakali must play, he must have Aribo. If Onyeka must play alongside Ndidi, then I will still have Aribo even though I know Nwakali will bring much smoother ball transitions and control through the middle. And if I am to balance the off-ball work rate and Midfield control of the middle game to near tactical perfection, I would rather have Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo play together. That is a more tactically Balanced trio. For me, Aribo is a MUST. I have been saying this prior to this Afcon. Kog45: |

Lol... yeah, I finally figured it was you My Good Uncle. Anyway, I have given my tots on that. And yes, I get where you are coming from. Believe I have over-dissected this on Twitter and in talks with my other analyst friends offline. We have looked at every possible MF combo available to Eguavoen and the crew at this Afcon. And I reached one major conclusion... Aribo must start. Kog45: |

Omeruo will play. Awaziem won't be in matchday squad again as at last reported. First XI likely to stay the same. Onyekuru tipped to get mins today. And ofcos... Sudan talking tough. ![]() Kog45: |

Kog45: I think this is a point I do a breakdown of what I noticed and possible progression we might expect. I will start with Kelechi Nwakali who remained the most controversial pick and most discussed. What I noticed in the game was a totally different role from what we expected. When Eguavoen explained his philosophy, he talked about diagonal long balls being key to his system. Kelechi Nwakali came to mind. However, I know Guardiola relies on Laporte and Ederson when we are under high press. This happens because, in a high press, the midfielders have little time on the ball. It was refreshing seeing Ekong taking that mantle, and Omeruo doing more of the low ones. In that case, Nwakali was not utilized in that role. What I saw instead is that Eguavoen has chosen a double attack system, with one of the strikers having the capability of playing as an attack midfielder and able to create for the striker and offensive wingers. This was what happened when he made the change. He formed an attacking pair with Sadiq Umar and Kelechi Nwakali. I told someone what was most interesting was both support strikers, are named Kelechi, and both were U17 best players of respective competitions. So I think the coaching crew want Kelechi Nwakali to play a more offensive role than we expect. Another thing I noticed was that his pass to Ejuke. The weight of the pass was so precise, that it stopped at the right time that made it easy for Ejuke to work with it. That is why I feel Kelechi Nwakali will not play a deep midfield role in the coming games. Time will tell. Will expatiate more on Nwakali soon. |

Eguavoen is coming out this group with 9pts just as he did in AFCON 2006, started against Ghana with 1-0 brush aside Zimbabwe 2-0 and finished off Senegal in final group game...expect same in this group |

Kog45:Playing Nwakili with just Ndidi in the midfield is suicide. Iheanacho must give way for Nwakali to play then allow Ndidi and Aribo to continue. Next time we are defending a goal, I think Onyeka should be considered ahead of Nwakali. |

Honestly, Nigeria had quite a good number of monster performers that day. It was so hard for me to even pick mine. So hard that Aina ended up being 4th in my own top 5 that day. In another analyst's mind, Aina would be MOTM as well and rightly so too. So you picking Ndidi as yours is also correct. This shows how well the players fared that day and I hope they take it up even higher today. Meliforme: |

Kog45:Sadiq Umar He sparked a discussion after the game. Did he play well or did he not? My verdict. He was atrocious. Why? Tactical failure. He was the only player that had Eguavoen barking in anger and directing his movement. Samson Siasia explained this when he worked with some home-based players in the Super Eagles camp. After briefing, training, drilling them on tactics. As soon as a scrimmage game started, they forgot everything. Siasia said, sometimes, these things take time to register. Sadiq definitely had a tactical nightmare and gave the coaching crew headache. Take nothing away from the youngman. He showed total talent. Sweet touches. Intelligence in reading players movement but this coaching crew wants sound tactical involvement and Sadiq will face a heavy hand during lectures. If he nails it, the guy will fly in this competition. |
