Kobojunkie:
John the Baptist was an Old Covenant prophet - He was the one given the original mission to baptize the children of Israel in preparation for the Kingdom of God. John's disciples later became disciples of Jesus Christ and they continued the work that John was doing even as they went around with Jesus Christ as their new teacher. undecided
Wrong, John the Baptist was not NOT an old convenant prophet, He was the only prophet that preached about a coming Messiah and pointed out Jesus as the Christ. He was the first to preach repentance of sin and water baptism.

Many disciples of Jesus were once followers of Joh. But after the Holy Ghost descended on Jesus as a dove and John pointed Him as the one He has been preaching about, they began to follow Jesus.

John 1:32-41 (KJV) And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Jesus baptises with the Holy Ghost and we baptise with water. The two go side by side in the new testament.

That spirit Jesus was talking about is the Holy Spirit

1 John 5:4-8 (KJV) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one......
You are making an illogcal leap here and there are several reasons why I say this...but the major is that. .

Jesus Christ's teachings in John 3 vs 1 - 21 is not the only focus of John's writing in his letter which you quote here. Instead John summarizes in his writeup Jesus Christ's teachings which spans from John 1 through John 15 in this here letter of His.

For instance, in Jesus Christ's teachings, one must first become a Son of God - John 8 vs 31 - 44 - a Holy/Perfect vessel that is fit for God's own Holy Spirit to dwell on the inside of before the Spirit of Truth ( Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit(God) can then make their home inside of such a one - Johh 14 vs 15 - 25. undecided

Don't attempt to FastTrack through Jesus Christ's teachings. You need to first gain an understanding of Jesus Christ and His teachings in order to understand what are contained in the epistles written by His disciples, not the other way around. undecided

Jesus Christ also said that only those who stay joined in Him in order to remain His. undecided
In essence, continuous effort is required on the part of each follower in order to remain a branch on the vine. undecided
Right here, I agree 100%

Summary: we are in Jesus and are one with God and need to continuously work to remain in Him which is why the Holy Spirit is neccessary.

Interesting claim! You should probably spend some time reading up on this before moving forward. undecided

Jesus Christ Himself told you that the least in the Kingdom of God was greater than John the Baptist. John was the Baptizer and according to the story, Jesus Christ, did not baptize him nor call on him to follow Him. undecided

John was deemed a righteous man by Old Covenant standards and since Jesus Christ came to save the sinners and not the righteous, there was no need for John to be saved of Jesus Christ. Anyways, do a bit of catching up to realize John was of and died an Old Covenant prophet, not as a follower of Jesus Christ. undecided

Most of the Apostles perhaps except Apostle Paul all died as jewish practitioners.
They even protested the salvation of non-jews. Apostle Peter then would only eat with the non Jews when the other Apostles were not around and pretend that he wasnt eating when the Apostles come grin grin
Jesus practised Judaism by keeping the passover as well.
Christianity stopped the segregation of non-jews, the need to enter the holy of holies for sin remission, the ban on unclean meat or eating with unclean hands etc.
They still kept the feast of the passover.

John 1:6-9, 15, 17 (KJV) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John was the only prophet who preached baptism for repentance, John the baptist pointed Christ and said this is the Christ same thing with the Apostles.
Matthew 11:10-11 (KJV) For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he

When you talk about prophets, John was the greatest, but if you dwell in Christ, you are automatically greater than Christ because you're one with Christ and Christ is greater than John the baptist

There is absolutely no mention of the Holy Spirit in that Context. In fact there is rarely a mention of Him until much later in Jesus Christ's teaching as recorded in the Gospel of John, and this when Jesus Christ teaches of the God, the Father(Holy Spirit) making His home in those who belong to Him, just as God said it is to be, in Ezekiel 36 vs 27 undecided

This definitely not water baptism, sprinkling of water for purification is an old testament doctrine as seen in these verses below

Numbers 19:13, 18-21 (KJV) Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:

But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.
And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be unclean until even.

Sprinkling of water was part of rhe mosaic law. The apostles of Jesus baptised with water by immersion in the name of Jesus which is why we are buried

The old convenant is different from the new convenant but the apostles taught in the synagogues isnt that a jewish act?

The apostles kept the feast of the passover isnt that jewish?

It took a vision to tell Peter to stop calling what God has sanctified "unclean". Is it not in the law of moses not to eat certain fishes and creatures? By refusing to eat those seafood, wasnt Peter being jewish?

13 Those who touch the body of someone who has died are unclean. If they stay unclean and then go to the Lord’s Holy Tent, they make it unclean. So they must be separated from the Israelites. Because the special water was not thrown on them, they remain unclean.

14 “This is the rule about those who die in their tents: If someone dies in the tent, everyone in the tent will be unclean for seven days.
15 And every jar or pot without a lid becomes unclean.
16 If there is a dead body out in a field, whether the person died in battle or for some other reason, whoever touches that dead body, or its bones, or even its grave will be unclean for seven days.

17 “If you have become unclean, someone must use the ashes from the burned cow to make you clean again. They must pour fresh water over the ashes into a jar.
18 That clean person must take a hyssop branch and dip it into the water. The clean person must sprinkle it over the tent, the dishes, and any people who were in the tent. That clean person must do this for anyone who touches a dead body, its bones, or even a grave.

19 “Then that clean person must sprinkle this water on you on the third day and again on the seventh day. On the seventh day you will become clean. You must wash your clothes in water and you will become clean in the evening.

20 “Whoever becomes unclean and does not become clean must be separated from the community. If an unclean person is not sprinkled with that special water and does not become clean, that person might make the Lord’s Holy Tent unclean.
21 This rule will be for you forever. And whoever sprinkled the special water must wash their clothes because they will be unclean until evening.
22 And whoever an unclean person touches will be unclean until evening.”

The passage clearly states that what is to be sprinkled, this on anyone who touches a dead body in Israel, is special water made by mixing ashes into water and that water is then sprinkled using a hyssop branch on the items that are unclean as well as the person. undecided

That is not the first time that water is sprinkled to cleanse someone in the mosaic law.

Numbers 8:5-7 (KJV)
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.
And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.

The above passage is the ritual done to the levites before they commence service as a means of purification.
So once again, sprinkling of water for cleansing is different from baptism by immersion in water for a rebirth.

Sprinkling of water for cleansing is a mosaic law. Hence it is in line with Ezekiel 36 vs 25. Sprinkling water is the law or means of cleansing or purification of people under the old convenant (mosaic law), thus this is the same thing God meant in the book of Ezekiel ch 36 vs 25. This prophesy was given in the time of Ezekiel under the old convenant and thus was talking about sprinkling acccording to the law of Moses.

The law of sprinkling water does not apply only to the Levites or those who touched the dead. It applies to all who need to be purified, they could need purification from anything.

See the book of Leviticus 15 from 1 to the end, water was used for cleansing for anyone who is unclean. If you do it yourself, you will bathe yourself, if someone does it to you, they will sprinkle you (not bathe you).

Leviticus 15:1-13 (KJV) And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.
And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.
Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.
And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And what saddle soever he rideth upon that hath the issue shall be unclean.
And whosoever toucheth any thing that was under him shall be unclean until the even: and he that beareth any of those things shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And whomsoever he toucheth that hath the issue, and hath not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
And the vessel of earth, that he toucheth which hath the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.
And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.

Numbers 19:19 (KJV) And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.

You can see here that sprinkling or bathing with water is used for cleansing. You bathe yourself, or a clean person sprinkles water on you. This has no promise of a new birth of any kind, was only for cleansing under the old testatment. However in the new testament, John 3 vs 5, Jesus was talking about water that gives a new birth which is clearly baptism by immersion according to Colossians 2vs12 and Romans 6 vs 4. If you want a new birth according the promise of the new testament, be buried in baptism in the name of Jesus not be sprinkled.

Over to you, what makes you think this law of sprinkling water is the same in John 3 vs 5 ?

clearly applies only to the Levites
It does not apply to only the Levites, please read Leviticus 15 to the end. Water sprinkling applies to anyone that's unclean however if you are to do the cleansing yourself, you dont sprinkle water on yourself, you bathe yourself.

God Himself indicated in Ezekiel 36 vs 25 indicated that the sprinkling of water is what is needed for the new birth,
Ezekiel 36:25 (KJV) Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

Where in Ezekiel did God mention a new birth?
Just show or quote or highlight the part that mentioned birth in the whole of Ezekiel ch 36.
You can see you wrongly said that God himself indicated that the sprinkling of water is what is needed for a new birth.
The only water that carries the promise of a new birth is baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus under the new testament to signify being burried and being risen from the dead as a new man.

YourFavEvangeli:
Lol, so the apostles were wrong by baptising with water and you are the right one...
First Apostle Peter realised his mistake which he self confessed and put down to as due to amnesia, then Apostle Paul got wise about it all, after the encounter with Jesus

YourFavEvangeli:
Where in the old testament was water baptism carried out?
Exodus 30:17-21
17Then the LORD said to Moses,
18“You shall also make a basin of bronze, with a base of bronze, for washing. You shall put it [outside in the court] between the Tent of Meeting and the altar [of burnt offering], and you shall put water in it.
19Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.
20When they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister, to burn an offering in the fire to the LORD [they shall do the same].
21They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they will not die; it shall be a perpetual statute for them, for Aaron and his descendants throughout their generations.

I am not surprised that you struggle to have a higher understanding that Exodus 30:17-21 is an exclusive private affair, while John the Baptist's water baptism, was an extension of Exodus 30:17-21, to become a non exclusive public affair opened up for all and sundry, while still operating under the law and the old covenant

YourFavEvangeli:
Water baptism started with John the baptist which was a fore-runner of Christ so where is the law in that? Moses was the law giver, where did Moses baptise with water?
I am not surprised that you didnt know that cleansing with water was part of the law applied when a person had become unclean and that it predated John the Baptist water baptism

YourFavEvangeli:
In the time of the apostles, some people still baptised unto John's baptism...
This is a bible 101 open and shut clear-cut straightforward theology that in the time of the apostles, some people still baptised unto John's baptism because of the following terrible reasons
1. As opposed to following Jesus' instruction to be baptised by the Holy Spirit, forgetfulness of this dictate, made the defaulters to do water baptism and so follow Apostles' instruction
2. The apostles and those who followed their doctrine(s), especially, in the case of water baptism, in this particular matter, were operating under the law and against Jesus' expressed command.

YourFavEvangeli:
... and needed to be re-baptised in Jesus's name. After the apostles baptised with water, the baptism of the Holy Ghost follows.
loll, so if you put forward that 'needed to be re-baptised ' then means they had to do water baptism twice? Isnt that so? Hmm?

YourFavEvangeli:
Its our job to baptise with water, its the job of Jesus to baptise us with the Holy Ghose and fire.
Its your job to get baptised with water, if you're operating under the law, while if you're operating under the new covenant you dont need baptism by water, but what you seriously need will be the baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire, in the name of Jesus

Now here's a question for you, which is, hypothetically speaking, if you are said to be immersed in your book, does that mean, you literally are dipped in your book?

YourFavEvangeli:
U should know better than name calling.
I dont mince my words, when calling a spade a spade. You wouldnt find me call a crooked stick, straight

I'll make it easier for you by asking you to share any instruction from Jesus, where of Him, explicitly dictating to the Apostles to baptise people with water.

Nothing in Exodus 30 mentioned baptism, washing in water or being sprinkled with water is an old convenant law for cleansing the unclean.

If you are sincere, you would see that I said this same thing to someone just on top of your post grin cheesy

In the new testament, we have water baptism in the name of Jesus by immersion. Now sprinkling water or washing hands and feet.
Buried with him in baptism (Colossians 2vs 12, Romans 6 vs 4) not sprinkled with water as baptism or washing the hands and feet as baptism.
If you werent completely immersed in water, you weren't buried according to Romans 6 vs 4 and Colossians 2 vs 12.

There is sprinkling of water, washing or bathing with water and there is baptism by immersion to signify burial. Common sense should help you differentiate between them...

You seem to be dull in understanding. The Apostle are men like you and me still growing in knowledge. Even after over 2,000 years, we are still trying to understand some things written by Paul.

When Jesus said he that belives and is baptized shall be saved, did he mention water? John did his baptism with water, Jesus does his with the Holy Spirit. There is ONE BAPTISM. And the Holy Spirit baptism is what seals your salvation, not water. Hence Paul wrote;

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." (Ephesians 1:13)

The apostles began to baptise people from the time of Jesus himself. Jesus could have stopped them but he did not because its right.

Jesus didnt baptise anyone with water because His job is to baptise with the Holy Ghost but under the instruction of Jesus, His disciples baptised more people than John the baptist
Re: Why You Must Be Baptised In The Name Of Jesus by NNTR: 4:51pm On Jan 16, 2022
YourFavEvangeli:
Why did the apostles baptise with water?
Acts 11:15-16

15When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as He did on us at the beginning [at Pentecost].
16
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say,
‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Why did the apostles baptise with water is because of one word; amnesia

Apostle Peter, like I keep saying and keep prefixing the word Apostle before his name, in Acts 11:15-16, forgot what Jesus said, in Acts 1:5 and so changed what is meant to be an exclusive Holy Spirit baptism to an operating under the law water baptism ritual.

TruthinAction:
You seem to be dull in understanding. The Apostle are men like you and me still growing in knowledge.
Acts 2:32
And they were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles,
and in the communication of the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Note that, its not in the doctrine of our Lord, Jesus Christ, our Saviour, God Incarnate, but it is the doctrine of the apostles (i.e. teaching as taught by the Apostle) they were continuing in doing

TruthinAction:
Even after over 2,000 years, we are still trying to understand some things written by Paul.
If to be honest, if under the guidance of the the best Teacher, that's talking of the Holy Spirit here, and also aware of Apostle Paul's style of writing, then really isnt nothing about not understanding some things, written by Apostles Paul

TruthinAction:
When Jesus said he that belives and is baptized shall be saved, did he mention water?
YourFavEvangeli, did you read this comment

YourFavEvangeli, recapitulating again, 'born of water' is referring to the amniotic fluid, when Jesus used it and mentioned the phrase in John 3:5, when He answered Nicodemus, by saying:
Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Acts 1:4-5
4And while they were gathered together, He commanded them:
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss.
5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit
.

John 14:26
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf],
He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

Acts 11:15-16
15As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He had fallen upon us at the beginning.
16Then I remembered the word of the Lord, as He used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Of course, there is baptism by water (i.e. operating under the law) and baptism by the Holy Ghost, just as there is physical circumcision (i.e. operating under the law) and spiritual circumcision. I know which ones are better, loll.

Matthew 2 vs 38 is totally and theologically wrong because the cancellation of sin, is not done in the name of Jesus, but rather remission of sin happened on the basis of the shedding of Jesus' blood.

Now watch this, if Jesus clearly stated Holy Spirit baptism in Acts 1:5 seen up there, on whose authority is Apostle Peter gone to say water baptism in Acts 2:38 gives remission of sins, when I John 1:7 clearly says 'and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin [by erasing the stain of sin, keeping us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].' and Hebrews 9:22b supports that truth by saying 'without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness [neither release from sin and its guilt, nor cancellation of the merited punishment].'

Equally why would Philip, the Apostle, also slip on this theological banana skin of operating under the law, by carrying out water baptism for the Ethiopian eunuch? It simply is because of Acts 2:42, that is they continually and faithfully devoting themselves to the doctrine and instruction of the apostles, and not of the instruction of Jesus. They were operating under the law. Smh.

Jesus, in Acts 1:5, said Holy Spirit baptism but Apostle Peter, in Acts 2:38, drifts away from Jesus expressed instruction, about Holy Spirit baptism, to go prescribe to water baptism (i.e. Acts 10:47–48)

Apostle Philip too, succumbed to pressure to facilitate water baptism against Jesus' expressed order of Holy Spirit baptism. They were operating under the law. Smh.

It wasnt until Acts 11:16, that Apostle Peter came to himself, which is, at the point when John 14:26 got fulfilled. It's at Acts 11:16, that Apostle Peter remembered that, its actually Holy Spirit baptism what Jesus taught them and not water baptism (i.e. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’)

Apostle Paul, because of the at Acts 19:4-5, made a u-turn departure from operating under the law, with at I Corinthians 1:14, literally saying:
'I thank God I didnt water baptized any of you'

Ephesians 4:5
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

TruthinAction, the combination of your disgraceful attempt at butchering John 3:6 and YourFavEvangeli prooftexting verses of the bible against one and another under a self deception of having some sort of understanding that is false just shows you both belong to some bizarre cult

One baptism. The Holy Spirit baptism. Not, no poxy, water baptism, but just one baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We've done away with operating under the law, so go argue with some one that has ignorance to exchange with your on display bagful of ignorances. KMFT.

What you and YourFavEvangeli dont realise is that 'in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,' is a latter addition to the original Matthew 28:19, inserted to replace the short 'in His name' to the long 'in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,' version
