The electoral act already recognizes the process of electing party's candidates which could either be direct, indirect or consensus. Inec & the party would have to communicate the process and an inec official would be present at the venue to validate the process.
APC had their candidates in the person of Buhari. Every party member unanimously endorsed him as the party flagbearer with no opposition. What does that tell you if you had a brain to comprehend.

However, in a party primaries, there shall be two or more contesting aspirants on the ballot. A direct or indirect primaries could as well end up being a consensus if all contestants agreed to adopt a single candidate at the last minute.

6.Ultimately strengthen our Democracy as direct primaries will be less prone to corruption or money inducement as it will be easier to bribe few delegates than bribing the entire electorates all over the country.

It is time for Nigerians to urge the National assembly to do the right thing by signing the bill into law thereby saving our crumbling democracy.

Direct primaries is the heaviest scam in Nigeria APC tried and we know the result. Andy Uba the APC candidate scored 230K plus votes to emerge the party candidate but couldn't score up to 50k votes in the general elections. Even a child knows that the APC direct primaries was cooked and doctored to satisfy one candidate. The same thing in FCT in 2019 primaries. One famous politician score 1.4 million votes in a Local Government in Abuja, a place that has less than 100K registered voters.

Did you see the YIAGA townhall meeting on NTA this evening?

Jega said political parties do not have a register with which INEC can conduct direct primaries.

There is also the issue of time as we are roughly 1 year away from election.

Direct primary has to removed for now to allow the rest of the bill scale through, hopefully the next dispensation will make direct primary a thing.
