Why is your language not mutually intelligible with Yoruba though if you only left 500 years ago?

That isn't a long period of time.

some Ewes might have Akan surnames as a result of this or recent mixing.

It is actually if you are an Ogu dialect speaker, I for one can pick out works in it.

I'm not sure. I my Ewe is very minimal. I was born abroad.

But I am not making the claim that we are one in the same but moreso that we are related and I consider us the same..as culturally and spiritually there are a lot of similarities.

I personally have nothing against Nigerians.

But I think some Ghanaians might dislike Nigerians due to reputation and perception. I know my parents told me that back in the day Ghanaians were expelled from Nigeria unfairly and some that remember that might not have a good view of you. But my parents don't have any problems..we have a Nigerian lawyer, close friends with Nigerians, shop at their stores, etc. But this is all in Canada. So I dunno how it is back home right now.

I wouldn't say we are a sub-tribe of the larger Yoruba group because that implies we are under you.

But we are related to you and were one at one point

But TODAY, Ewes move independently...but we acknowledge we are brothers with you.

It's not really the young ones except banter.. But some of the parents do...

I remember one of my uncles was going to marry a Ghanaian girl, and the parents said no.. She can't marry a Nigerian.

I don't have a problem with Ghanaians, though... How can I have a problem with kind of chics you guys breed in that country lol...

I believe that, and there may be more history between Ghanaian and Nigerian tribes we do not know.

I remember watching a documentary about Ghana, where they went to talk to a family and they were talking in their dialect.
I swear it sounded so similar to Yoruba. I am not Yoruba or a Yoruba speaker, but even I could hear how close it sounded.

I think that it is wrong to hold Nigerians that were born in the late 70s and after accountable for the ghana-must-go saga. This is because those born between the late 70s to mid 80s were either infants or too young to understand world politics and nationality affiliation. You cannot hold a child accountable for the "sins" of the father. Besides, Ghana sent Nigeria packing first when they came up with some immigration law in the 60s that sent all Nigerians including those who were born and bred in ghana back to Nigeria. Unfortunately, a lot of ghanian parents leave out that part when narrating how Nigeria sent them packing in the early 80s.

I think both countries should bury the hatchet and let bygone be bygone. Those of us who are believers in Christ ask God for forgiveness for our sins all the time and African christians fill churches every sunday lifting up holy hands, yet we cannot forgive and let go of something that happened over 30 years ago? Africans! undecided

As for reputation and perception, I can understand but stereotyping and prejudice get's us nowhere. For example, many white people in the western world automatically think that all black people who enter their stores are there to steal and hence follow us around like a dog expecting a juicy bone from his owner. As black people, I know that we don't find their warped, prejudiced, wicked stereotype about us funny. So, then why do we tag our fellow Africans with negative stereotypes? So, because I was brought into this wicked and confused world by a Nigerian man and woman, that now means in the mind of the average ghanian that I must be a 419 scammer? May God help us all. I will be sure to keep my distance from you all.

With that said, it is quite unfortunate that the ones closer to home (Binis) are in denial. Maybe it has to do with the way Nigeria is who knows. Anyway goodluck to them.

This again? It doesn't matter if the king originates from Yorubaland or if the Binis were ever at Ife. At the end of the day, we're not Yoruba today even if some were, which is doubtful, and we don't want to claim such. End of. Focus on Ewe.

The Ewe are closer to the Fon than the Yorubas by the way, but they're claiming Yorubas pushed them out of their original homeland. I don't see what connection they have to Yoruba other than that and this thread hasn't done much to elaborate on any further connections.

Let each person answer their papa name. Yoruba is Yoruba, Ewe/ewa/eweko/ewele/were is ewe/ewa/eweko/ewele/were. Please leave us Yoruba alone. Just leave us alone for gods sake. We dont want some dirty, stupidddd, cultureless, ugly people diluting our pure heritage.

We the best!

Well, you dont seem to understand the concept of haplotype, SNPs, haplogroups, Tandem repeats, Satellite and microsatellite repeats, LNPs, recombination, cross-overs etc. So posting that nonsense isnt gonna help advance your argument one bit because individuals with a similar Y -haplotype do not necessarily share a similar ancestry or geographical location. Y-Short Tandem Rrepeats events are not unique. Instead, the clusters of Y-Short Tandem Reapets haplotype results inherited from different events and different histories tend to overlap over time. The same nonsense you posted up there is present in Indians, Caucasians and Chimpazees. A single haplogroup doesnt tell you much, you have to put a lot of shyt together and research is still at the early stage. I hate when dumbos like you just copy and paste shytt off the internet.
Re: "We The Ewe People Of Ghana Are The Same As Yoruba"- Yewe2011.ewe Guy From Ghana by DuduNegro: 5:16am On Jun 24, 2012
Geographically, the Yoruba people can be found around the Niger-Benue confluence at the Northeast limit. Dialects such as Kabba, Yagba and Oworo are present there. They occupy most of Kwara state and the whole of the South-West geopolitical zone in Nigeria. Yoruban peoples are also present in Benin republic and southern Togo.. The Aja, the Ewe and Ga peoples can be considered as Yoruba, or at least, some of their founding fathers spoke Yoruboid language or practiced Yorubic culture. The Itsekiri ethnic group of Delta, and Edo states, the Kanuri of the Chad basin, Igala of Kogi and the Ebbu and Olukumi of the Delta state of Nigeria are also Yoruban peoples. So, today, the Yoruban peoples, the Yorubic culture and the Yoruboid languages stretch from the Ramos and Dodo rivers in the north western fringe of Bayelsa State to the Ga of Accra area of modern Ghana. They are also found in Sierra Leone and other parts of the subcontinent.

. . . Musiwa, please give us a visual, let's see the coverage, use the above to give us Yorubaland on a map of West Africa.
