Hello all. I'm a 25year old unemployed graduate. I finished my NYSC last year and i was able to save less than 50k. After spending 6months without any forthcoming job, I've used about 20k out of the money and all I'm left with in this life is 30k. I was introduced to a solar installation class during Nysc and i decided to give it a try.

The registration is about 21k plus transport to the venue will cost me about 30k for the 6months. I was told there would be a certificate after the training, but I'm still a bit skeptical about the course because i don't know how lucrative the skill is, because i once read a nairaland post on how a guy bought his panels and fixed it himself after going through the manuals.

So my question now is, should i invest my life savings on this course? Is it lucrative? Will the certificate matter at all? Can i build a career from it?

I just opened this account to hide my identity.

The Planet Earth Is Rotating on it axis and around the Sun for nothing.

There you are thinking of problem, while at 180 degrees straight line to you is someone thinking of a solution to the same problem.

But alas, just at 90 degrees to you is another person already working on the Solution to the same problems you are still in thinking mode on.
While at 180 degrees straight line to the person working on a Solution you are thinking on is Someone who have already provided the Solution(s) to the problem you are thinking on.

What will link the whole four is the Internet. But Basically, YouTube.

Your search keyword on there is: solar pv installation training

Go for it now!!!

My friend, invest that money in yourself and learn it properly. Those using diy probably have little knowledge of electrical stuffs before. 30k is pizza and drinks money when you begin to get contracts. The man that came to relocate my solar from Ogun state to Oyo charged me 35k for that. Learn it well and become the best at it so that you don't use customers works to do practical and spoil stuffs. Also, you are not learning tailor work that you need to be in the shop all day, continue to hustle with any side gigs you see. You go dey OK. When you finish, print a few e-fliers and flood social media advertising your services and pray always. Sooner or later, God will pick your call.

Don't just go for the 6 months classes. Find a way to attach yourself with someone who is already doing the solar installation. It's what I do and I can tell you that almost everyday, money enters my hand.

I started in 2018 having taught in a secondary school for 3 yrs with nothing to show for it. I'm still under my boss but I do my own stuffs too. For instance, I serviced someone's inverter yesterday for 11k, and maintained another clients solar panels for 30k on Saturday.

I also do electrical work and maintenance, all these I learnt in the years I've been with my boss. My boss is a good man also and allows me service my clients most times even though I'm On a salary. And I didn't pay with money to learn it, I paid with my time, energy and dedication.. Do likewise..
Can I discuss with you

Becoming a master installer will take you a longer time to master because you'll basically have to improve in your skills. But I'll personally advice you learn digital skills like affiliate marketing, freelancing or copywriting. This are skills in high demand and not so hard to master.Personally am an affiliate marketer and I use only my phone. In digital marketing all you need is a phone and internet connection to basically sell online and it's a pretty decent business model.Got to know about it through a friend and yeah it's basically worth it.
Re: Should I Use My Life Savings To Learn Solar Installation? by funshow247(m): 8:07am On Jan 25, 2022
No, you can learn it yourself if only you can devote your time to watch comprehensive DIY videos. They are so many sites of such that can give you a full package professional training for free. You only pay few amount for certificate.

Morever, find someone who is already a professional in that field as a solar/inverter Engineer or Technician and serve under them as an intern or a voluntary worker.

You won't regret you did. Many other things will unfold along the way.

Peace.

30k life savings cheesy
Bobo why now... Go and learn Solar installation but I doubt if the remaining 9k will sustain you coz you still have to get some tools while practicing and with the high price of materials, you will need more cash

2 things are involved, the most important one out of the two is this number 1
1 location: is it low, Middle or high income earners you have in your locality area or community? And
2. How good is the light in that your side

If the number one is middle or high income, count your self lucky because the business will grow and you will get recommendations

If na low income, change location asap

Go and learn it. As long as you can market it you will be okay. It's cool cash. Forget about people telling you to go and learn online. You need contact to kick in this business. I have been into it for 7years+. Solar equipment no be beans so learn with people that has contact.
Meanwhile there is a limit to what you can learn online. I doubt if someone that learnt online can handle 40 batteries with equalisers

I would have thought you to be one of the corps members calling my line to register for post camp training. But be that as it may, NO SKILL IS A WASTE. I studied History, during my service year, I knew my course of study isn't appreciated by the Nigerian system except for Engineering, Medicine and Law. I learnt welding and fabrication during NYSC, got other certs, came back home and joined a company that trains on anything Engineering including solar. As a foundation, I got little money to tidy few things in preparation for an office job. I'm spending money to acquire more skills as I'm opening new businesses. So carry on OR FIND OTHER ON DEMAND SKILLS, ENGAGE YOURSELF, THE SKY WILL BE YOUR BEGINNING. NO RUSH AM

That is not your life's savings but money you are using to hold your side. Keeping it will only amount to you spending on food or problem when the hunger hits hard... So my advise is to learn something with it but do you know what?

Avoid those yeye guys coming to NYSC camp to offer stupid training with certificate at the end. They are no different from Universities that churns graduate with no reasonable skill. They will just put you and probably 5 others in a class with one tiny yeye panel to illustrate rubbish for 6months and at the end you will leave with enough theoretical knowledge but no hands-on skill because you learnt in the class without going out to face real world problem. That is how many of us learnt CCNA in classrooms using home routers and switches but when we came out and saw industrial switches we were like dummies.

They are only interested in your money and will be fast to graduate you for another set to come once your 6months elapses

If you will swallow pride and do away with certificate mentality I will advise you look for where to learn as an apprentice, you pay, buy their drinks and sign the contract to learn for 2yrs or more.

The benefit is that, you get to learn the art deeply

You get to learn the business side of it

You get to go out with your boss or seniors and partake in industrial installation not the classroom own those guys will teach you.

You get to network with potential clients and build your contacts while still learning.

You get to meet other professionals like you (your colleagues).

Those are the benefits and now it is between you and your pride, If you can jilt salary and certificate mentality to stoop low as an apprentice to learn what could change your life forever.

The choice is yours... Good luck!

Best advice..
Solar and inverter learning is more practical than class room learning.
It has its own pains and gains too.
