Works as what?

If she's not a citizen or has permanent residence, how did she get a job? Or has she been there that long?

It's not just about the cold. It's also about the princess treatment

Princess treatment that ends when you get sick.
Which Nigerian politicians are getting treated in Nigeria?

The money is a major factor, but not that they aiming very high. An average Nigerian will be comfortable with $5000 per month and have very great quality of life, but my point is that, to really go wild abroad, you must be hungry, determined and skilled. Most important, must be hard working.

Not a high percentage of Nigerians abroad are making that much.

He's kind of right. Even with a low paying job, he can still get running water, non-stop electricity and access to infrastructure.
These basic things are seen as rights in the West. In Nigeria they're seen as luxuries.

Running water and electricity are not rights over there because you have to pay for them. And they don't come cheap.

5k per month? na rich guy b dat na!!!
$5000 per month is $60,000 a year.
After all the deductions (health insurance, social security, State/City taxes, etc) you might be taking home less than $48,000.
Then you take out your rent/mortgage, cars payment, then food, etc. At the end, not much left. And the rat race continues until retirement. It's not as easy as most Nigerians think.
But I must admit that most Nigerians would be better off there. Because in Nigeria, they may not have any opportunities at all.

You speak like you know how everything should work in every country abroad. She has done omugwo for people a couple of times, even outside her province.

We are talking about people getting discouraged about travelling. Let me ask; were you discouraged by people not to travel when you wanted to? If yes, did you still travel? Why?

You said cold, now it's about the princess treatment. If they can't deal with the treatment as a result of difference in culture, they can go back home. But according to you, ALL of them are trapped. Trapped by what? You don't want to own up that life is better there than it is in Nigeria despite the supposed cold.

This is actually what the guy was talking about. People abroad always looking for how to stop others from coming over with reasons that didn't stop they themselves from going.

If you still went despite what people said about hard life and the cold, let others also go and experience it too and decide they don't want it.

How did I miss your comment, you said 24hrs electricity and running water is luxury in Nigeria and someone living on low wage job abroad is better because they have access to it agreeing with the person that said a low wage earner abroad is better than a Nigerian millionaire. And I disagree because a Nigerian millionaire have access to those same amenities and more. And how does a homeless person living under a bridge or in a tent in America or the UK have access to electricity, you people will just be posting nonsense everywhere, this kind of talk is why you see comments like I rather be in an American prison than in banana island.

You shouldn't have replied him when he made that statement. That alone should have made you know the kind of person you were talking to.

Cheap is all relative.

You pay for electricity in Nigeria and still pay for generator even if the light goes out.

Not having running water in 2022 is primitive by any world standard.

Say you have $48,000.

Rent-$1200
Food-$800
Car-$500
Miscellaneous-$500

That's $3000 a month.

So your saving $1000 a month after all expenses and taxes.

That's almost half a million naira.

. I understand what you mean. 2 days ago I was at work, with the cold and crazy Job. I thought to myself, If I had a good Job in Naija nothing will make me come and stress myself like this in the name of hustle. I'm quite new though, I believe with time I'll get to enjoy the good sides too. Right now, the beautiful environment and 24/7 Light mean nothing to me anymore. The hustle is draining.

My two Nigerian female neighbors keep on complaining. Every single time they're in a conversation, it's about how they're tired, how they want to go back... Etc. But for their children they can't do that. Infact that's almost all what they talk about Everytime.

So I understand those who said it's not all rosy abroad. I also understand those who are really striving to travel out. Sometimes I feel Nigeria is better, the cruise, friends, fun, sun, etc. But then I remember Police, bribery and corruption (I hate this with passion) the joblessness, etc. Then I'll reconsider.

Thing is nowhere has it all.

Exactly! No where has it all. Which country are you in?

na shame say you go laff dem say dem no make am for abroad na him make dem remain there and in most cases, their own close pals have traveled too from Nigeria so they won’t see those friends again to main with when they return home - moreso they have made new friends where they now live and just got stucked in the system - but looking back, many wish if they have to do it over again, they would have stayed back in Nigeria

I would discourage anybody from traveling abroad only if they have a cushy job back home. Otherwise, come over. I have a friend whom I encouraged to migrate to Canada but he is not interested. He says he doesnt want to disrupt his already stable life in Nigeria to start hustling abroad at his age.

I'm not sure where the ignorant came from but I said that Nigerians are asylum seekers.
Also, going to foreign land and dying there doesn't mean shit. Everybody just needs where works well for them.
If you prefer Nigeria, then stay in Nigeria but don't discourage others wanting to leave for greener pastures with excuses like snow or where to bury them when they die cos you sound dumb.

You guys really don't get it

Do you really think Nigerians that are abroad especially the older ones like being abroad?

Cold is terrible for old people especially black people. Nigerians that like the country left there at an older age and have dreams of coming back. They're different to those born there that know no other home.

Alot of them cannot come to Nigeria because they are trapped and have children and other commitments.

When they tell you not to come they know what they're saying. You'll get trapped aswell.

If you don't have remarkable skills and are unskilled. You're likely to stay that way once you leave Nigeria. A metamorphosis cannot happen.

U v said nothing

I can tell you that electricity have not been my problem for a long time, using my friend as an example of people that have discovered that you don't need to be living abroad to enjoy 24hrs electricity maybe you do so goodluck to you.

Since you enjoy 24/7 electricity, does everyone in the city or state enjoy same. Why are we selfish as a people? How can people be taking pride in selfishness? You and your friend enjoy 24/7 light, others can go to hell and you are happy about it. May God forgive all of you in Nigeria.

There are.facilities.that give shelter, food and clothing to homeless people.

Lol. Like those shelters are enough to accommodate all the homeless folks. Like they don't give priority to some categories of people ahead of others. Like there are no homeless people living in open spaces or makeshift tents and cardboards. The shelter that takes you in today may turn you away tomorrow.

All he told you was that you don't need to get to USA or Canada to enjoy regular electricity. Even in abroad, those services don't come cheap, you still need to able to afford it before you can have access. Either in Nigeria or abroad, you need to be able to afford it. I don't see where the word selfishness was coming from. There are many homes in Nigeria that couldn't even afford electricity bills. So, what are we arguing about?

What a beautiful unbiased contribution! God bless your hustle.
I won American Visa lottery back in 2013 alongside my wife and a daughter. We couldn't raise the money needed, so we let the opportunity slide. Today if that same visa is given to me, I will reject it. May be I will sponsor my kids abroad for education to compensate what we lost but I'm much better and happier in Naija for now. So no need to go and suffer myself anymore.

It is selfish because he is saying he and his friends can afford 247 light and he is using it as a basis of argument as if every other person can afford it.
It looks like those doing well in Nigeria prefer Nigeria to be in this shape. They seem to enjoy the attention they get. Having 247 light and other basic amenities in Nigeria is nothing to be proud of or happy about in public. Rather what we should be happy and proud of is when the whole country has 247 light for everyone. Nigeria needs to level up with other countries in the world in terms of the basics, we can talk about science and technology later.

The poor in Nigeria deserve to have the basic amenities like the poor in other parts of the world too. Light, water, good roads, good public schools, good hospitals shouldn't be for the selected few who can afford it, they are the basics of living for crying out loud. If we can't understand this fact, I don't know how we can ever get past this level as a country.
