Check out the Yoruba's and Igbo's central dialects. There were no preparations made unto it. It simple sprang up. The question is, why do Ijaws have to use dialogue and force to make a central language. Why can't it be done now?

In my perspective, central language isn't created, it is spontaneous, and happens through a given period.

It didn't just sprang up.
You are a liar.

Central dialects do have a nucleus. And in the Igbos case the nucleus is Owerri or Orlu language phonology. This is to say, Igbos from Delta, some parts of Kogi and Benue, to Rivers and all other areas can understand perfectly the language of the Owerri or Orlu people. This is what makes a central dialect and it isn't made in periods of time, it comes up suddenly at its own pace.

But the question lies, can an average Apoi understand someone from Nembe perfectly, being that Nembe is the central dialect you've all agreed to take on? Mind you I do have a friend and she's Nembe, but she honestly had said to me that most Ijaw areas do not intellligbly understand themselves. It's quite hard for them.

Stop acting like Ijaws are the only places that was balkanized all other tribes have balkanized states. Ijaws seem to have this victim mentality like everything happened to them unfairly (and I'm not disssing please) Yoruba's, Hausa's and all other tribes were balkanized too.

I that's half Nigerian, I know way more than you do. And know the specs of Nigeria. You seem to know little but allow the aspect of tribe to blind your vision.
And I do like how you're conversing it's good too.

Who told you they didn't prepare for it?You sound daft most times.Have you done enough historical search to prove that?

Thousands and even millions will spontaneously agree one day to speak a particular language and develop a lexicon for it.

Okpo!

Before you come online do some research so you don't sound silly.Obviously you've allowed these Igbos on Nairaland brainwash you.To think you're even Ghanaian and you speak so confidently with much ignorance about a people you know nothing about.I bet you haven't heard an Ijaw speak or seen one before.

I stated earlier on this thread and was corroborated by my kinsmen that we understand each other regardless of our clans. The essence of a central language is for further integration so the language will continue to survive. With a central dialect we can teach with Ijaw to an Ijaw child anywhere.

Where did you read that Nembe is the central dialect of Ijaws? Didn't you also read where we said we understand ourselves?

The essence of my responding to foolish threads as this is to educate others about my people. The fact we are talked about regularly is a good thing itself. But do not throw lies about or ignorance.

You started first as though you needed a sincere answer, and we provided it.But then you couldn't mask your bias for long.

I was born here, and my mom is Igbo. Not forgetting that I schooled here. So I know much. And I've heard a lot of Ijaw friends, and know pretty much. So, I don't know where you're driving at.

Is this feasible? From my understanding of the evolution of languages, sociological and geographical factors play more role than folks sitting down to create a language.

Take for example, it's recorded in authority books that Asaba is culturally related to the west than the East but as minorities that are geographically close to a dominant tribe, the Igbo language dorminated their language over time and soon reduced the influence of their original cultural relationships with their kith and kin in the Western region.

The same thing is happening in Ondo with the Apoi who are even in Ese Odo LGA and speak Yoruba more and for political reasons will rather use their broader Yoruba affinity and relationship available to them but not available to Ijaws in Rivers and Bayelsa to increase their chances of opportunities.

You will never know that some Yoruba from Ese Odo LGA, Ondo have Apoi roots perhaps until you are married to them or close to them. The Apois and Ilaje have very little difference yet the Ilaje are Yoruba but the Apois won't let go of their Yoruba affinity for obvious reasons.

So asking the Apoi to take on one central Ijaw language that gives him no special economic or political advantage over his Ilaje neighbour who is already using his Yoruba as an edge,in my opinion, is just an academic exercise.
All around him,in schools, market, church, mosque, radio, TV, campaign ground, civil service secretariats, Banks, etc, they speak Yoruba which he can speak and has been speaking all his life and he even bears Yoruba names, his mother is probably Yoruba and you tell him to learn one language you are writing somewhere.

Haba. Kolewek o wink

How is Asaba related to the West and not to the East?
