Thank God you overcame your challenges and came out the better for it.

That said, we should be more understanding and compassionate towards people going through depression. Depression is a very real subject matter and it's not fully understood as at yet why certain individuals are prone to being depressed and feeling suicidal more often than others.

One thing is sure though, labelling people that are suicidal weak, lazy and sick is erroneous and ignorant.
(Don't get me wrong bro, I'm not castigating anyone)

It takes so much courage to end it all just like that!

They need our help and compassion. They need professional help (religious or psychiatric help)

I strongly believe this an angle that should be chased. Though you never can tell with these oyinbos. Too much money and using it to pursue elusive happiness can bring them to depression and make them suicidal easily.

What we looking for is inside us but we are chasing the external illusion of happiness. We destroy so many things on our way and when we realize that we left true happiness, it's too late because we can't get back there anymore, we destroyed it already. And this shouldn't be with the many tales from culture, monks life and mores of life. When I become rich, instead of wanting to live by going to clubs to drink and dance or those things people believe is fun I'd rather go to one village and build a comfortable house and just live in solitude every once in a while. That will keep me in touch with my core and I will always see life for what it is. Life isn't complicated, it's people in it that complicated it.

I perfectly understand and know that depression can occur on a physiological level for most people.

My worry, and that is what fueled my original comment is that depression seems to spike in spite of us (humans as a collective) achieving and inventing things that should make life and living easier.

I made reference to our forebears for a reason.

Back then, they had what you'll refer to as basic human problems; what to eat, where to source water in the dry seasons, how to stay warm. Solving any of this problem gave them them the required dopamine dose they needed to keep it moving. Do not also neglect the fact that they maintained a well balanced social structure; close knit family, community... Etc.

These days, we've contravened most of those, we now live in isolation while technology brings people closer which has its downside; unhealthy comparisons and pressure to meet up.

Wrong diet, less physical activity, easy availability of drugs.

Human satisfaction has dropped over the years, you don't think there's a reason for it?

Also, take note that exercise is a natural anti-depressant and our forebears had plenty of that through heavy lifting farm work that was the nirm back them.

The rise of the machines have changed all that.
