Thank you sir, I will look into it. Am very grateful for the responses so far. But I have a challenge with area of research, u know our Nigerian school system, we dnt do research and most times after school, we dnt tend to get a job in line with what we studied.

I have always wanted to work in an oil company so I can have an experience, but it never came even after series of applications and interviews. Also with respect to my final year project, it was not related to anything petroleum, but Solar, but I have always had interest in petroleum, that's why I want to do a masters in that area. Pls how do I go abt this when I dnt have research experience and also my final year project was not in petroleum.
You are welcome

The thing is Professors are looking for Prospective Graduate students who are best fit for their research labs/groups and the likes of Academic background or Research experience of a Student is very important as related to what they do is important, and from your transcript they would know if you have the background or not.

Try to go for a Research Area or Research areas within your field of study (Academic background or your Final Year Project Research)

You will find the following content useful if you wanna Study in Canada and Stay in Canada after your studies.

Sometimes last year, I read on Twitter that "the demand for crude oil is reducing in Canada, as electric/hybrid vehicles are replacing Gasoline vehicles gradually and this is reducing the relevance of Crude Oil in Canada to some extent. You know what this means in the nearest future.

That being said, the post advised graduates (Bachelor's, Masters) of Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering to go for research-based Masters in research areas like
- Energy and Sustainability
- Renewable Energy
- Bioenergy/biofuel
- Environmental Engineering
- Pollution (Air, Water, Land)
- Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and lots more

As a Physics graduate, you can tailor your Academic background and Research Experience (final year project) to areas like Energy and Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Bioenergy/biofuel (which is related to Solar), Environmental Engineering, Pollution (Air, Water, Land), Greenhouse Gases (GHG) which is related to Meteorology (atmospheric Physics) and Climate Science etc.

There are lots of Research Opportunities (usually Fully-funded in terms of scholarship) in the above Research Areas, so take your time and do serious research on the above research areas you know within yourself you would be potentially good at (good fit) for a masters degree.

Alternatively,as a Physics graduate, since you are still interested in the Oil industry, you can try going for GEOPHYSICS for your Masters degree in the areas like:
- hydrocarbon reservoirs and their geophysical responses
- how to utilise geophysical data for understanding and detecting reservoirs
- systematic research on geology, structure and seismology
- exploring and identifying both conventional and unconventional reservoirs
- providing innovative theory
- developing leading processing techniques that enable more reliable interpretations of sub-surface structure etc.

Good luck!!!!!!

Quitters never win and winners never quit. On what grounds were you refused visa? Those are the areas you should work on then put in your application again. My first application to Canada in 2019 was denied on the grounds that I had no ties in Nigeria and Canada. The agent I used at the time had applied for a tourist visa for me so didn't bother including details and documents of my family in Nigeria and Canada. I could not appeal the decision because Covid overtook events.

My second application in 2021 was a breeze and the rest they say, is history. The essence of this is don't give up.

Good morning all

Pls I need your advise. I am about applying for visa and study permit to study in Canada.

When I was renewing my passport, the immigration officials discovered that there are 3 names on my national identity certificate as against 4 on my old passport. I decided to do newspaper publication to retain the ones in the national identity. So I removed one name. In the process, I had to do another birth certificate to reflect the 3 names. No new name was introduced. Meanwhile, in the new birth certificate which I needed to do to support my application at immigration, I introduced my step mum' s name as my mum as I lost my mum few years ago.

Pls note that my original mum's name was in the first birth certificate I used to apply for UK visa about 10 years ago, which had my 4 names.

The new birth certificate with 3 names was what I used to apply for admission to a college in Canada, as it tallies with names in my university certificate.

Now I heard embassies share information. Can Canada embassy sought for information about my document from UK embassy. Pls your comments. God bless

Lekiboboe has given a very great reply.

Just a little addition, even if you don't have a research experience in the area, two things can help:
1. Before sending a cold email to any prof, try to read at least one of his recent publications in the area you are interested in. This will give the prof an impression that you are not lazy and that you can understand a research paper. It may be daunting at first, but you will get used to it with time. From the paper, you can get an idea of the future work the prof wants to do. In your email, you should state that you have read the paper, and suggest that you would like to work on one or more of the future research areas in the paper (mention the research exactly).

In fact, if the paper is *not freely* available online, and you have to pay to download it, you can email the prof that you are interested in his work and ask for a copy of the paper. Mention that you are from a developing country and you don't have access to a paid journal. You could even build a relationship from there.

2. Since you have worked with solar and not petroleum, some skills are transferable. For example, mathematical modelling or programming skills like MATLAB. So, you can mention some of those skills and experience that you think you can apply to petroleum research. Showing interest is a key thing, you may not have all the skills.

Best of luck!

I think your international passport already carries the information on your birth certificate. I uploaded only the documents asked, it’s also on the website that if more documents is required they’ll contact you but when I came to nairaland, I saw that people uploaded lots of documents and it’s working for them.

Please I need help guys.
I got admission to Fanshawe College for one year PGC in Business Analytics, May 2022 and I have paid the tuition deposit.
I applied for study visa 29th Nov 2021 but got a rejection mail today based on financial status and personal assets.
I don't understand why the rejection because I submitted a personal statement of N12m, N2m sukuku bond certificate and I earn N560k monthly (attached my payslip).
I terminated my N5m Mutual funds in Oct 2021 to make up the N12m in my personal account but I didn't state this in my SOP because I felt it will be visible in the account statement where the lump sum came from. However, in December, I decided to send LOE for the N5m lump sum and also attached the statement of my Mutual funds account. This I sent via Web form and emails, not sure they got this because my profile was not updated nor did I receive any email on it.
Upfront medical submitted last Friday.
I'm confused on how to proceed. I want to order for my GCMS note, how long will this take if my Sis in Canada helps?
Should I go ahead and make the balance payment of my tuition?
Can I reapply without GCMS note using the new portal?
I moved N10m from my account back to mutual funds to earn some interest while waiting for the visa outcome... Now I have to terminate again so I can reapply.
NB: I still have a valid Canadian vist visa.

With this your way of moving funds.

What is in your gcms note is lumpsum deposit.

At this moment, to stand a better chance early.

Pay your one year tuition fee.

Do GIC if you can .

Visa officer won't have any concern about your funds again after you've done this.

Hello SallyK,

So sorry for your refusal. is just a temporary delay. Now as we all know, you need to get your note to know what actually is the VO concern(s) as the reason in the refusal letter is generic.

Now one thing about having huge funds in the account and paying just a deposit is that it will make the VO question the genuineness of the applicants to study or is the fund just for demonstration purposes? Showing you earn 560k monthly, do you have other assets other than the 12million in the account to show that you're well established in your home country? Again, hope your company is a known establishment that will make the VO easily believe such monthly income and not from one SallyK and sons limited? So, you need to tighten all loose ends.

A Vo will believe that an applicant with 2million in account and paid one-year tuition and has assets in form of lands, shares, other properties is more established and will likely return back home than you who have all the millions but not established. which can easily tell him/her you don't plan to be established in your home country.

So my opinion is

1). Pay the entire one-year tuition to show that the money is yours and is meant for studies ( as the money is just floating back and forth between your account and mutual funds).
2). Show some assets in your name, not just huge money ( in this immigration process, cash in account isn't really an ASSET per se but Assets is cash in the making). This will go a long way to show you're well established and have what will likely bring you back home.

Again, as the funds keep moving between mutual funds and your account, I would like you to trace it back to the origin of the money movement from your account to a mutual fund and diligently explain it in your LOE to prove that the money is truly yours and also explain why you like keeping it in mutual funds. Why I said this is, people can borrow funds from people who do not like their money to be idle. So as not to keep their money idle, they send it to mutual funds so that it will be growing. Now once the visa application is approved, the fund is reversed and sent back to the owner.

So while you wait for your note, be your VO and begin now to draft your LOE and start also to get documents you may need to tackle the concerns.
But then, if the note comes out and you feel the refusal reason isn't justifiable, you may seek JR if you can afford it.

All the best.

Some good News

Because of the backlogs in processing Visa applications caused by the pandemic, the Canadian government is putting down big money to make the following applications processed even more quicker..

-Visiting Visa
-Study Visa
-Permanent residence Visa

They hope this budget would make things get back to normal this year.

With this, we should be getting quick response to study permit applications..

Let's hope for the best on this thread. It shall surely end in praise..
