Nigeria Now Depends On IMF, World Bank To Pay Salaries Of Workers – Prof Tomori by NwaNimo1(m): 9:40pm On Feb 03, 2022
A professor of Virology, Oyewale Tomori has said Nigeria is now depending on international agencies such as International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to pay workers salaries.

Tomori spoke on Thursday while delivering a lecture on the topic “Science, Scientist and Society” at the 79th Interdisciplinary Research Discourse of the Postgraduate College, University of Ibadan.

Professor Tomori who is a member of the World Health Organisation Technical Advisory Group on COVID-19 vaccine composition, also disclosed that Nigeria has become a beggar for COVID-19 vaccines. shocked

He regretted that the country has failed to consistently invest in education, science and technology despite the vast number of natural resources.

He said while other countries are enjoying a return on investments, Nigeria is reaping a return on iniquity and immorality. cheesy

He said this is the main reason the country depends on loans from international donor agencies such as IMF and World Bank to pay salaries of workers.

The University Don lamented that the current democratic system in the country is full of corruption and immorality.

“While other countries are getting sumptuous results on their investments, we are wallowing in our own return on iniquity and on return on immorality.

“That is why we have 10.5 million of our children out of school, 4.5 million under-vaccinated, we become the poverty capital of the world.

“We are investing hugely in corruption and disdain for science and technology.

“And we now depend on IMF loans and world bank to pay our workers’ salaries, to import food which we should be producing.”

Nigeria is borrowing money to pay salaries, but its president still has enough money for medical tourism.

Yet some people manage to believe that this man has Integrity.

Yet, some people want to vote Tinubu into power after he promises to build on buhari's legacy.

Ask yourself which legacy Tinubu will build on if not legacy of failure.

The richest black person in the world is a Nigerian, let’s just politely acknowledge that the money no spread reach you.

You must learn to think out the box & work smarter, When next you are with a fellow African, find an excuse to explain why you have nothing as a Nigerian?

Where did you see Federal Government in the write up? He regretted that the country has failed to consistently invest in education, science and technology.

Are you not aware that the money your Governor uses in paying your parent’s salary is borrowed money?

Or what does your state do to generate income, other than collecting hand out money from the Federal Government every month?

Has your state paid back the money you are owing the Federal Government?

Sure mention one thing your state Government or Governor has done to lift you out of poverty?

Just one.

I have a feeling that the journalist who covered his presentation focused on his lamentation.
Fyi, Prof. Tomori is not an outsider to government as he may think or trying to suggest.

I remember that he was the one caught playing scrabbes on his laptop during the national conference meeting in 2014. In his response, he said the computer games make him think undecided
https://dailypost.ng/2014/04/15/makes-think-better-national-conference-delegate-caught-playing-scrabble-replies-critics/?amp=1

The quote attributed to him, especially borrowing to import food to eat and pay salaries is an inaccurate claim by him, Nigeria essentially borrows to fund infrastructures.

And the most obvious reasons for our unsatisfactory data on school enrolment and inadequacy in resource availability under PMB is more because our population growth keeps exceeding our economic growth. People are having more than they can cater for yet expects government to cater for the liability they create from unplanned procreation.

Population growth at around 3% every year when our GDP growth hovers around 1 and 2%( even went negative in 2020) is a man-made recipe for social unrest.

In my opinion, if he had mentioned that area of our pain (I.e poor family planning especially by the poor folks) or forgot to mention that (for his audience, forgetting to mention the negative impact of failed family planning to national security and economy would be a fatal oversight), a diligent and patriotic journalist should have used this report to raise the issue of family planning awareness again but they will rather focus on sensational and shallow writing that doesn't project insights into the solutions. They just want to lament and go.
