House of Gucci (2021) 8.5/10
Director: Ridley Scott

How do you get people invested in a story that they mostly know how it will play out? You bring that story to life in front of their eyes. House of Gucci's greatest strength is its cast. Driver, Pacino, Irons and Leto had all proven themselves through the course of their careers. Gaga was the gamble, and boy did it pay off for Ridley Scott.
Gaga's Patrizia commands the presence of the viewer and proceeds to show a woman who is as cold and calculating as she can be cheerful and charming. You realize just how much Driver's Maurizio was not ready for her, Irons' Rodolfo underestimated her and Pacino's Aldo was enchanted by her.
But the most development went to Driver's Maurizio. Maurizio at the end of the movie was far from the naive, innocent and earnest young man he was at the beginning of the movie. And this was my best aspect of the story.
Leto's Paolo was another engaging character, toeing the line between comic relief and victim of circumstances out of his control.
Harry Gregson-Williams puts together a decent score.
The accents took a bit of getting used to, though.

Man's out there breaking records, so proud of him.

For those not in the know, The Golden Raspberry Awards is an award ceremony that recognizes the worst in cinematic underachievement.

It's all a question of perception. I understand why he's been nominated, but I'd be lying if I said his performance didn't elevate the film.

I'm not sure, but if I had to guess, it's possible he was trying to create an unusual unique atmosphere for the film. An exotic vibe, perhaps?

This sounds like the only tangible reason I've come across so far.
I'm going to make out time and read up on it. It just felt really unnecessary. Would've even preferred actual Italian over the accented English.

In historical dramas, using an accent is not uncommon. For example, in the Chernobyl TV series, a phony Russian (or was it ukrainian?) accent was adopted despite the fact that the whole cast was made up of Brits and Americans. It contributed to the show's authenticity and succeeded in giving it an exotic atmosphere.

I think Scott Ridley attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to recreate this method in HoG.

That move was vawulence personified. I felt bad for the guy though he was a clown.

My movie site has barely added anything in almost a month...just 1 or 2 garbage movies like 355 and so...

I'm torn between Ritter's motives being a long con to get back at Grindle or just plain pettiness because of Stanton made her feel vulnerable in their first meeting.

According to IMDB, he has eight films scheduled for release in 2022.

What. A. Legend.

All Jokes aside, there are unconfirmed rumors that he may be suffering from early-onset dementia. If that's the case, it's understandable that he'd want to maximize his output before he's no longer able to work. Poor guy.

You can always watch the classics. I recommend 3:10 to Yuma. The original and remake.
