I just got diagnosed of been HIV+. I don't even know what to do or where to start at this phase in life. Dream looks shambles. I had that HIV positive patient must take it's drugs everyday in other to survive. I really do not know where to start. I feel like taking my life away. Who can give me a concrete advise on how to survive this. The trauma is much on me. I really do not know who to ask for favor. I am looking forward for your advice.

Secondly is the drugs affordable?

Please do not come here to insult me. All I need is advice I don't even know how to explain this to my family at home. Or should I keep it as a secret for the rest of my life. I believe I have failed people who believed in. My old father I don't even know how to break this news to him.


Modified: I am just coming back from the clinic not long ago. At least I am eased at the moment. I was opportune to meet with people living with same status and they are all doing perfectly well. My Advice to people is this. If you can't resist the urge make sure you make use of your condom. HIV is very real, I hope we all learn from my own lesson.

HIV is not the end of life.There are people who have been HIV positive for years and they are doing fine.
The first thing is to do a confirmatory test to see if you are still positive.
Get registered with a hospital, (usually government hospitals) where they have heart to heart clinics.You will be counselled and a test done to check your CD4 count.If low,you will be placed on antiretrovirals which are free.
You will need to leave a healthy lifestyle,avoid certain foods and alcohol.
Generally,you will do just fine.

.....hi, I believe having HIV is not the end of life, there are plenty of people who are HIV positive for a very long time now, and noting has happen to them, only what you can do is to pls take your drugs as been prescribed by the doctor. I know someone who is HIV positive, and he still get married and have children, and noting happen to her wife and the children.... And the man is living his normal life till now, for 20years now. So The Lord be with you, the drugs and treatment are free...just visit department of HIV they we explain more to you. Even it just HIV and it treatable, thank God you notice that in his early stages, if is HIV- AIDS now that one is not curable..

Though being diagnosed HIV+ can be a blow on the body and mental state, but I believe it's a starting point for you. You need to seat down and think about your priorities now, focus on them with all your energy and achieve them. I don't know if you are married but please don't think about infecting others as that will only lead you further down d hole..

ARV I hear are relatively cheap these days even if not free, you just have to stay committed to using it everyday.

I know you are down but you still have your whole life ahead of you just that now you have to take conscious decisions for yourself and your loved ones.

You are not Finished!

HIV should not be what should trouble you.

you'd soon get to accept the fact that your are positive and there's nothing you can do about it. this stage you are in now will soon pass away.
be strong. this is no time for blame games. hiv/aids is no longer deadly. people still live normal life.

as for the bolded, the drugs are either free or highly subsidized at govt owned hospitals.

Get registered at a government hospital (general hospital). The drugs are free there, from my knowledge. Follow through with every instructions given and you'll be fine

Ehyaaa, It's not the end of the road for you, just feed your mind with positive things, everything starts from the mind, and try getting advice from a therapist or someone that has experience being an HIV patient, they give the best advice as they'll speak from experience.

The drugs are completely free. The hiv clinic will give you a bottle that covers for 30days at this early stage.
So as your health and drug compliance Improves, they will shift you to dosage that covers for 2months or even 3months..

Drugs are called ARV antiretroviral drugs.
They are produced by different drug companies. Some arv you take just one tablet daily,

while some you take 2times daily.


Depending on your hiv clinic, tell the counsellor that because of your daily activities you prefer the ARV that can be taken once daily.. It helps with compliance..

But have you started showing symptoms of the hiv?

What prompted you to take an hiv test?

Have you reached out to your partner? She or he too may be Infected....

But even before you're given hiv antiretroviral drugs, you must do a confirmatory hiv antigen p24 blood test. And this blood will be taken directly from a vein. Not like the one taken when your thumb is punctured.

Please go for a confirmatory test first...

it is called respiratory synthetic virus. Blood was collected from my arm with a string
