I bought this car last year from someone , all papers intact

Just yesterday policce stopped and did some check online and discovered that the plate number is valid but has not been assigned to any vehicle.

What are the implications and is there any way I can retifly it

Their database can be compared to the entity called Nigeria. It is below average.


Just contact the seller asap before they label you a car thief.

My advice to you is that You should apply for a new Number Plate... The 40k you will spend for new plate number is going to save you from the trauma you will go through when you encounter SARS or those Wicked Police officers...

OP is the plate number a Lagos number??if yes do not let the Nigeria police dupe you because of this,Lagos plate numbers takes time to show on the data base,it's not the previous seller fault at all but the fault of the agency who issues the plate number,from my observation,most G series plate numbers registered from mid last year don't appear on that data base,not to talk of the new H series,you can run a quick check your self on this site https://nvis.frsc.gov.ng/VehicleManagement/VerifyPlateNo
Just enter most new plates you see from random cars to confirm your self.

Even if you register a new one today,keep checking from now till end of this year,except they have changed the process,the result would still be valid but not assigned.

So from the best of my knowledge,no implication at all.

You don't need to re-register. Just go to FRSC office and meet any of the officers that help people get drivers license and number plate.

Tell him about your issue. He will take money from you and upload your car details in their database.

But if you are patient, they will still upload the data themselves.

I paid an FRSC person around 6k in 2020 to do mine for me.

If you check 10 random number plates on that frsc site only 2 will be correct. Know this and know peace

That's the correct answer.
Don't allow any Police man fraud you.
Most Lagos State number plates issued by LVIS aren't uploaded quickly by FRSC due typical interagency rivalry. There's nothing wrong with your plates. You can meet with any FRSC officer for uploading..that would obviously cost you money) or wait patiently for them to load it( slower tho).
Once you have all your documents complete, especially proof of ownership..stand your ground.
